Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing thin glass panes, especially glass panes with a thickness of below 1 mm, by drawing a thin glass strand vertically downwards. According to the inventive method, a glass melt is fed from a melting bath via a feed to the glass drawing tank that comprises a nozzle system with at least one slotted nozzle. The length and the diameter of the feed as well as the viscosity of the glass melt present in the feed determine the overall throughput. The throughput per length unit in the transverse direction to the glass strand (so-called line throughput) is adjusted via the geometry of the nozzle system and via the viscosity of the glass melt present in the nozzle system. These parameters are adjusted in such a manner that the glass, when leaving the nozzle system, does not wet the bottom of the slotted nozzle in the range of the tearoff edge.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for reducing end effect on a preform assembly during manufacture of optical fiber. The present invention provides apparatus and methods that apply a first vacuum pressure to a preform assembly during a first portion of the draw of optical fiber from the preform assembly and a second lesser vacuum pressure during a second portion of the draw. The second vacuum pressure may be a step down pressure or a gradual or an incremental decrease in pressure over time. The present invention further provides apparatus and methods that use an intermediate rod such as a dummy preform core rod and/or a support rod placed at the back of the preform core rod, wherein the preform end effect occurs on the dummy preform core rod, as opposed to the core rod of the preform assembly or is eliminated altogether by the support rod.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a silica glass tube which is characterized by depositing SiO2 particles on an elongate support that rotates about its longitudinal axis, thereby producing a porous with a cylindrical inner bore. Said blank is vertically aligned, suspended in a furnace using a suspension that engages with a constriction in the upper zone of the inner bore of the blank, and vitrified. The aim of the invention is to provided a method with which also heavy blanks can be secured safely and substantially without any danger of contaminations of the inner bore without using complicated securing devices. To this end, the constriction (6b) is generated by shaping the inner bore (7) when the SiO2 particles are deposited. For vitrification a suspension (8; 9; 10) is used that supports itself on the constriction (6b) and that otherwise projects into the cylindrical inner bore (7) without having any contact therewith.

Abstract: The present invention provides a dry-cleaning machine capable of performing a water-repellent finishing process when necessary, while ensuring a high level of safety. When the water-repellent finishing process has been performed after the drying process (Step S2), the solvent contained in the water repellent penetrates into the laundry articles. Taking this into account, the upper limit for the temperature difference ?T between the inlet and outlet of the drum detected is set lower (e.g. 10° C.) than that the upper limit (e.g. 20° C.) applied to the case where no water-repellent finishing process is performed. This temperature setting reduces the amount of heat supplied to the laundry articles and accordingly decreases the evaporating speed of the solvent. Thus, the concentration of the gasified solvent in the air-circulating passage is maintained under the safety level.

Abstract: An economical and effective process is provided to remove water from organic waste material, such as manure, and to further facilitate various different fertilizer applications or uses for the product material produced. The process employ a pulverizing air drier that utilizes a high impact vortex or cyclone of forced air. Additionally, the process sanitizes and the raw organic material and “micronizes” the organic material as well as or better than conventional thermal drying, which must be coupled with supplemental grinding or pulverizing techniques. To help preserve the nutritive, water soluble components of the raw organic material, the material is acidified prior to drying. To further minimize the loss of nutrients in the product fertilizer, water soluble components removed by the drying process can be recovered recycled back into the product. Additional nutritive component can be added to the material to produce a desired fertilizer formulation.

Abstract: A gas detection sensor which combines the advantages of constant-temperature operation and PWM control for catalytic-bead, combustible-gas detectors. The active and reference elements of the gas detector are arranged in a modified bridge circuit which allows power to be supplied, using pulse-width modulation, separately to the active and reference elements. An advantage is that constant temperature can be maintained on the elements by using a relatively inexpensive digital processor to monitor the resistances of the elements to control the pulse-width modulator, and to translate the decrease in power needed to maintain constant temperature on the catalytic element into an output proportional to the concentration of combustible gas in air. Thus, a system embodying the foregoing periodically measures the resistance of one or more sensor elements (Rref and Rsense) and controls the electrical bias applied to the elements, using PWM, thereby maintaining nearly constant temperatures in the sensor elements.

Abstract: A pressure differential measuring tool which includes a wafer container having a pressure difference meter provided in fluid communication therewith. In use, the wafer container is placed in the indexer of the process tool, which is operated according to normal operational parameters. The pressure difference meter measures the difference in pressure between the air in the indexer, which equalizes with pressure in the wafer container, and the ambient or atmospheric air surrounding the chamber, which equalizes with the pressure of the air in the process chamber. The air pressure in the indexer can then be adjusted to a value higher than the ambient or atmospheric air pressure to prevent influx of air and particles from the process chamber into the indexer and wafer container.

Abstract: An panel testing apparatus is used to test the panel of a mainframe. When the panel is to be opened, the panel separates from the mainframe after the opening apparatus touches the switch. The fastening apparatus can clamp the front side of the panel easily because the lifting apparatus moves the panel to a higher position away from said mainframe. The panel and the rotating apparatus can rotate simultaneously. When closing said panel is desired, the rotating apparatus can push the back side of the panel. The panel and the rotating apparatus rotate toward the mainframe simultaneously until the switch locks the mainframe.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a flow through pipet for sample measurement. The pipet of the invention has a body defining an interior space for receiving a fluid. The drain line is provided to drain fluid above a drain line inlet, thereby establishing a repeatable upper fluid level in the body. A dispense valve on the lower end of the body selectively permit dispensing of the fluid from the body. A restriction member may be located in the interior space of the body for defining a passageway. The drain line inlet may communicate with the passageway to establish a smaller surface area for an upper surface of the fluid, thereby minimizing a variance in the fluid level. A vent line vents gas from the measuring chamber during filling of a fluid. The pipet of the invention is particularly suitable for use in an automated system due to the top fill feature, which eliminates the need for cycling back and forth between a fill vessel and a dispense vessel.

Abstract: For measuring the concentration of a substance in body fluid, such as the glucose level in blood or tissue, a strip electrode (18) and a ring electrode (19) are arranged at the specimen. The ring electrode (19) is in direct electrical contact with the specimen while the strip electrode (18) is electrically insulated therefrom. The strip electrode (18) is arranged parallel to an arm or a leg for obtaining a large interaction length. The electrodes (18, 19) form a capacitor in a resonant circuit. A modulated voltage in the MHz range close to or at the resonance frequency is applied to the electrodes and the response of the body fluid is measured. This design allows a measurement of high accuracy.

A high flow rate nozzle receives the aerosol at a flow rate of greater than 20 liters per minute (lpm) and accelerates and directs the aerosol flow toward a impaction plate. With this structure, the extra mechanical loss and damage to the mechanical parts can be prevented, that makes the present invention applicable to those model car engines operated at an extra high speed.
