Patent number: 6722022Abstract: An apparatus and a method for calibrating the position of a wafer platform in an ion implanter, and particularly in a medium current ion implanter. The apparatus is constructed by a curvilinear piece formed in a half-circular shape, a pair of linear rods for supporting the curvilinear piece, and at least one cross-bracing rod connected in-between the pair of linear rods for providing rigidity of the apparatus. When the inside peripheral surface of the curvilinear piece intimately engages an outside peripheral surface of the wafer platform of the ion implanter, or when the first and second linear rods fit snugly on the implanter indicative that the wafer platform is properly calibrated at a zero-angle position. When such fitting is not possible, the wafer platform is then adjusted until a snug fitting is made possible.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., LtdInventors: Lu-Chang Chen, Yu-Chun Peng, Yi-Yao Tang

Patent number: 6722024Abstract: A battery replacement system and method for electronic devices which does not require a back-up battery or storage capacitor. A battery is placed within a tunnel formed in the electronic device. The tunnel has an input opening and an output opening. During use, the battery resides within the tunnel where it makes electrical contact with the power terminals of the device. When the battery is exhausted and needs to be replaced, a new battery is introduced into the tunnel via the input opening. As the new battery enters the tunnel, it makes electrical contact with the power terminals, while at the same time serving to push the exhausted battery out the output opening of the tunnel. The tunnel is configured such that the new battery makes electrical contact with the power terminals before the exhausted battery loses contact with the terminals. In this way, there is no interruption in power being supplied to the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: GSL Research Technology LimitedInventor: Kit Man Chow

Patent number: 6722026Abstract: A process and apparatus is disclosed capable of removably adhering a semiconductor substrate to a substrate support in a sub-atmospheric environment using a plurality of individual fibers, each mounted at one end adjacent the substrate support, and each having a loose end. When the portions of the fiber adjacent the loose fiber ends are each brought into contact with the under surface of the substrate, Van der Waals forces are exerted between the substrate and the fibers to urge the substrate toward the underlying substrate support. In a preferred embodiment, the substrate and portions of the fiber adjacent the loose fiber ends are first vertically brought into physical contact with one another, and then a horizontal force is applied to horizontally move, with respect to one another, the substrate and the portions of the fibers adjacent the loose fiber ends.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: KLA-Tencor CorporationInventor: Matthew Harris Lent

Patent number: 6722031Abstract: Conductive materials that have low coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs) and that are used for power and ground planes are disclosed. Fibrous materials (such as carbon, graphite, glass, quartz, polyethylene, and liquid crystal polymer fibers) with low CTEs are metallized to provide a resultant conductive material with a low CTE. Such fibers may be metallized in their individual state and then formed into a fabric, or these materials may be formed into a fabric and then metallized or a combination of both metallizations may be used. In addition, a graphite or carbon sheet may be metallized on one or both sides to provide a material that has a low CTE and high conductivity. These metallized, low CTE power and ground planes may be laminated with other planes/cores into a composite, or laminated into a core which is then laminated with other planes/cores into a composite. The resultant composite may be used for printed circuit boards (PCBs) or PCBs used as laminate chip carriers.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert M. Patent number: 6722032Abstract: Probes for electronic devices are described. The probe is formed by ball bonding a plurality of wires to contact locations on a fan out substrate surface. The wires are cut off leaving stubs. A patterned polymer sheet having electrical conductor patterns therein is disposed over the stubs which extend through holes in the sheet. The ends of the wires are flattened to remit the polymer sheet in place. The wire is connected to an electrical conductor on the polymer sheet which is converted to a contact pad on the polymer sheet. A second wire is ball bonded to the pad on the polymer sheet and cut to leave a second stub. The polymer sheet is laser cut so that each second stub is free to move independently of the other second studs. The ends of the second stubs are disposed against contact locations of an electronic device, such as an FC chip, to test the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Brian Samuel Beaman, Keith Edward Fogel, Paul Alfred Lauro, Maurice Heathcote Norcott, Da-Yuan Shih

Patent number: 6722040Abstract: An adapter for a weed eater is movably connected to a lower side of a spinning spool of a weed eater. The adapter when installed to the weed eater has a cord equal in height to weeds after they are cut. A center of the seat of the adapter has a penetrating hole. A stud penetrates through the penetrating hole of the adapter so as to lock the spinning spool of the weed eater. Since the diameter of the penetrating hole is larger than the diameter of the stud, the adapter and the spinning spool are movable connected to one another, and the adapter can move along the stud. The weight of the weed eater can be transferred to a ground so as to reduce the burden of the user and the weed eater can avoid stones as it is trimming weeds.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Inventor: Donald Joe Sullivan

Patent number: 6722063Abstract: The present invention enables the cloth shrunk through its washing to be finished in press to such a state as found in its new product. The present invention is comprised of a buck having a protruded curved upper surface on which a collar of the shirts 1 is mounted and a press iron having a concave curved iron surface for depressing the upper surface of the buck. A radius of curvature of the upper surface of the buck is selected to be larger than a radius of curvature of the iron surface of the press iron. The buck is divided at its central position into a right segment and a left segment so as to form a pair of right and left divided members. There is provided a depressing mechanism for turning each of the divided segments in an upward and outward direction at the time of pressing at the collar.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2003Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Sankousha Co., Ltd.Inventor: Mitsuyuki Uchikoshi

Patent number: 6722064Abstract: An active display device includes a motorized base and a transparent display. The base unit includes a magnetic drive, which communicates magnetically with a magnetically attractive rotor or agitator in the bottom of the display unit to circulate the fluid within the display unit and any particulate matter mixed therein. The purely magnetic communication between base and display eliminates all mechanical passages therebetween, thereby precluding potential leakage routes from the display component and permitting the display to be readily removed and replaced atop the base. The display may include a magnetically movable floor or other panel, if desired, with the floor panel disposed between the magnetic rotor and the display having a series of passages therethrough to permit liquid circulation, but precluding passage of particles beneath the floor to the rotor area. The base may include numerous additional features, such as an audio system, remote actuation, lighting, etc.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Inventors: Albert F.
