  • Patent number: 6735999
Abstract: A calibration spring tension adjuster for a seat belt tension sensor has a calibration spring, and a holder. The fixed part and the movable part are adjacent to each other and comprise mutually facing stepped helical faces arranged so that the movable part can be rotated relative to the fixed part causing the steps to slide over each other causing a gap between the stepped faces to increase and compressing the spring. The steps can be arranged so that movement of the movable part in one direction is resisted. The holder is arranged to attach to the fixed part and the spring is held between an abutment face of the holder and a non-stepped face of the movable part.

  • Patent number: 6736000
Abstract: A highly sensitive electronic ion cell for the measurement of trace elements in He carrier gas which involves glow discharge. A constant wave (CW) stable glow discharge detector which is controlled through a biased resistor, can detect the change of electron density caused by impurities in the He carrier gas by many orders of magnitude larger than that caused by direct ionization or electron capture. The stable glow discharge detector utilizes a floating pseudo-electrode to form a probe in or near the plasma and a solid rod electrode. By using this probe, the large variation of electron density due to trace amounts of impurities can be directly measured. The solid rod electrode provides greater stability and thus easier alignment.

  • Patent number: 6736002
Abstract: An arrangement for isolating an energy transfer system while it is subjected to a test process for noise. The energy transfer system is of the type having an energy input and at least one energy output, and may be mechanical or electrical. The isolation arrangement has a base that supports the energy transfer system. An isolation support supports the energy transfer system, yet affords multiple degrees of freedom with respect to the base. The energy transfer system is clamped in a manner that permits at least one degree of freedom with respect to the base, by means of an engagement arrangement that secures the energy transfer system to the isolation support. When mechanical or electrical energy is applied to the energy transfer system, acoustic energy in the form of sound and/or vibration is issued by the energy transfer system under test, which acoustic energy is monitored by an acoustic sensor that issues a corresponding electrical signal.

  • Patent number: 6736005
Abstract: The flow of a fluid at low flow rates is measured and controlled without introducing measuring devices into the fluid flow path. As the fluid is flowing through tubing, the tubing is heated to impart heat to the fluid. Heat sensors are attached at spaced positions from each other along the tubing in the direction of fluid flow to sense temperatures. The amount of heat applied to the tubing is controlled to maintain an established temperature differential between the heat sensors. The amount of heat applied is measured to provide an accurate and proportional indication of the fluid flow rate.

  • Patent number: 6736010
Abstract: Process and apparatus for displaying, measuring the size of and counting individual inclusions in suspension in moving liquid metal using an ultrasound sensor including emission and reception devices. Using the emission device, a series of ultrasound beam pulses is emitted within the liquid metal, and echoes reflected by the inclusions are received using the reception device. The reflected echoes are successively acquired and processed, and displayed as images which are analyzed to count and measure the diameter of inclusions. The sensor is calibrated by selectively placing in a path defined by the beam pulses at least one control reflector having predetermined dimensions and a geometry stable over time, successively acquiring and processing reflected echoes from the control reflector, displaying the reflected echoes from the control reflector as images, and analyzing the control reflector echo images to determine a relationship between amplitude of the images and the control reflector dimensions.

  • Patent number: 6736014
Abstract: For the metal substrate of a strain sensor, a Mo-containing two-phase stainless steel SUS329 is used. When an insulating layer, electrodes and a resistor are formed on the metal substrate by baking their materials, the alpha phase in the stainless steel of the metal substrate changes to a sigma phase through the baking heat, and, as a result, the range of strain applicable to the sensor within the elastic region of the substrate is broadened and the residual strain of the substrate is reduced. The strain sensor has a broad strain-detectable range and is readily restored to its starting point.

  • Patent number: 6736020
Abstract: In a changing system in a manual transmission in which a reverse idling gear is slid and meshed simultaneously with a first reverse gear secured to one of a main shaft and a counter shaft and with a second reverse gear mounted on a sleeve of a preselected synchronizing mechanism mounted on the other of the main shaft and the counter shaft, thereby establishing a reverse speed stage, an interlock plate is formed into a shape for inhibiting the movement of a preselected shifting piece in the same direction as a direction of sliding of the reverse idling gear, when a shifting arm having a drive portion engaged with a reverse shifting piece is turned for shifting to establish a reverse speed stage. Abstract: In an engraver of an electrical engraving machine for engraving pressure cylinders, the engraver comprises a rotating system which oscillates around small angles. The engraver further comprises a drive system for the rotating system and of an engraving element that is arranged at the rotating system. The engraving element is used to grave cup-shapes in the pressure cylinder by carrying out a lifting movement directed at the pressure cylinder. The clearance angle of the engraver is arranged in a tilt in the direction of the engraving of the cup-shapes in relation to a line of reference which extends vertically to the generated surface of the pressure cylinder. The clearance angle is thus enlarged. Especially buckled cup-shapes can be engraved in the correct tone value using the tilted arrangement of the engraving element.

  • Patent number: 6736046
Abstract: A pilot control valve for controlling a reciprocating pump has a valve member shiftable within a valve body between a first or “downstroke” position and a second or “upstroke” position. In its first and second positions, the valve member positions slide valves to allow communication of control fluid to move the piston to a second and first position, respectively. When the piston reaches its second position a poppet disposed in a rod attached to the piston allows control fluid acting on the valve member to depressurize. Pressurized control fluid then acts on the valve member to move to its second position. When the piston returns to its first position, the poppet allows pressurized control fluid acting on the upper surface of the piston to act on the valve member to move the valve member back to its first position and repeat the process.

Abstract: A hydrostatic axial piston machine has a drum-like cylinder block which is supported in a manner fixed against rotation on a driving or output shaft and is provided concentrically and parallel to its center line with cylinder boreholes in which axially displaccable pistons are arranged which are supported via spherical heads on a slanting disk which is fixed to the housing and preferably adjustable in its slanting angle. The cylinder openings opposite the slanting disk sweep over roughly kidney-shaped low pressure and high pressure control openings of a control body, between which reversing regions with additional boreholes are located. To control the additional boreholes, which influence the pressure increase or the pressure drop on the passing of the cylinder openings over the reversing regions, in dependence on the operating states, a borehole opens at least in a reversing region of the control body which is connected to the high pressure side or the high pressure control opening by a line.
