Abstract: A bypass duct sealing grommet, for sealing between an opening in a gas turbine engine bypass duct wall and the external surface of a projection extending through the opening. Conventionally, the intersection between the projection and the sheet metal bypass duct requires accurate fitting and welding, but cannot then accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. The grommet enables an oversized opening for relative thermal motion and simplifies manufacture. The grommet has an annular body with a central aperture adapted to seal against the external surface of the projection and two flanges defining an external slot about an exterior periphery of the body to contain and seal the bypass duct wall between the flanges.

Abstract: In a door checker for an automobile, including an intermediate recess which is formed in a side face of a check lever and deeper than a ball guide groove and into which a check ball is fitted by a biasing force of a check spring in order to generate a moderation resistance at a position of at least one medium opening degree of a door, the intermediate recess is formed so that a second opening width in a direction intersecting a centerline of the ball guide groove is larger than a first opening width along the centerline of the ball guide groove. Thus, the feeling of moderation upon fitting between the check ball and the recess is improved, and the generation of an abnormal sound during passing of the check ball through the recess by rapidly opening or closing the door is prevented.

Abstract: A coordinated multi axis hinge arrangement provides a snap action between stable open and closed states. When the hinges operate between the stable open and closed states across a dead center position, resilient forces imparted by torsionally rigid connecting elements (33.1, 33.2) of the hinge to adjacent hinge parts such as body and lid elements are transferred by coupling or transmitting areas (45.1, 45.2) adjacent the bending regions (34.1-34.4) or film hinges to remote resilient deformation energy storage areas (40.1-40.3). As the inge passes a dead center position, this energy is in turn supplied and returned to the rigid connecting elements to impart snap action to the closure. The closure may be cast as a single piece of plastic material and may be cast in the open position.

The method further includes attaching a second fitting (152) to the first material at a selected separation distance from the first fitting to form a unitary body (166) and removing of the unitary body from the mold. A mold (102) used in forming a chanter (100) of a bagpipe is also provided. The mold includes a first tapered portion (104) having an outer surface and a second tapered portion (106) having an outer surface. At least a portion of the outer surfaces of the first and second tapered portions collectively form at least a portion of a shape of an inner longitudinally oriented air passageway of a chanter.

Abstract: A gas sensor element is provided which is made of a laminate of an oxygen pump cell, a sensor cell, an oxygen monitor cell, and a heater. The laminate has affixed thereto terminals for establishing transmission of signals between themselves and an external device and also has conductive lines formed on portions of an outer surface of the laminate which connect between the respective cells and the terminals. This structure ensures a required degree of insulation resistance between the heater and the cells and also eliminates the disadvantages of a conventional structure that electric disconnections between the terminals and the cells or cracks occur in the laminate.

Abstract: An on-chip inductor and/or on-chip transformer includes at least one dielectric layer and at least one conductive winding on the at least one dielectric layer. The conductive winding has a substantially square geometry and has at least its exterior corners geometrically shaped to reduce impedance of the conductive winding at a particular operating frequency. Since the quality factor of an on-chip inductor is inversely proportional to the effective series impedance of an inductor at an operating frequency, by reducing the effective series impedance, the quality factor is increased.
