  • Patent number: 6758304
Abstract: A Helmholtz resonator includes a chamber at least partially defining a cavity. The chamber has a neck which defines a passage that is in fluid communication with the cavity. The chamber and the neck produce a passive response to a sound wave produced by the internal combustion engine. The sound wave negatively effects engine performance. An active resonator is disposed within the chamber. The active resonator produces a forced response for supplementing the passive response and increasing the band width of the noise attenuating pressure wave. The Helmholtz resonator is in fluid communication with a portion of an air induction system that defines a passageway that carries the sound wave. A driver is connected to the active resonator, which is preferably a loud speaker, to drive the loud speaker and produce the forced response. The driver preferably utilizes a signal source, such as an engine speed signal, to synchronize the forced response with the engine speed.

  • Patent number: 6758317
Abstract: A vehicle for the harvesting of plants bearing fruit or vegetables and particularly strawberries is disclosed. The vehicle comprises a conveyor belt system which is a pair of conveyors each comprising a belt assembly and an elongated trough positioned in a fixed relation above the belt assembly. Each conveyor is configured so that it can span many rows of fruit. Workers stand behind a conveyor and follow the vehicle picking strawberries. When the vehicle reaches the end of a row, the conveyor belt system is arc displaced over the vehicle to the opposite side using hydraulic power or some other appropriate means for displacement. The vehicle wheels are orientated for travel along the access road along the end of a field, for example, 90 degrees when the road is perpendicular to the rows of fruit. The vehicle then travels along the end of the field until it is again aligned with rows of fruit to be picked. The wheels are then orientated back for travel across the field.

  • Patent number: 6758320
Abstract: A positioning system utilizes a shot pin to fix the position of a grooved pallet at stations in a production line. The pallet travels along the production line under the influence of advancing feed pins. When the pallet arrives at a station, the head of the shot pin is positively urged toward the groove in the pallet until the head locks the pallet in the desired position. Simultaneously, the feed pin disengages from the pallet. When work is completed at the manufacturing station, the head of the shot pin moves away from and releases the pallet. Simultaneously, the feed pin engages the pallet. The feed pins and the shot pin operate in tandem, by moving in-phase along parallel lines in the same direction to accomplish their individual functions. The feed pins and the shot pin can operate relatively quickly without applying unnecessary torque to the conveyor or the pallet.

  • Patent number: 6758321
Abstract: Chain stores are provided for buffering and/or short-term storage of articles. They have a plurality of gondolas which are suspended from two chains which in turn run vertically over a plurality of deflection pulleys. Because of the requirement for realizing constantly higher capacities and for increasing the loading and unloading frequency of the store, the gondolas rock to an increasing extent at the deflection pulleys. At a sufficiently high cycle frequency during loading and/or unloading, this can lead to rocking of the gondolas over the total length of the chain, which can result in the articles being thrown out of the gondolas. The chain store according to the invention is now characterized in that a drive device is provided for separating the movement of the chain during loading into a chain movement which has a high frequency in the region of the loading side and an adjacent continuous or low-frequency chain movement.

Abstract: The main technical problem with Dual Cyclones with Water Injection used as classifiers in grinding circuits is that they do not allow for control and regulation of the input velocity ratio between the first and second cyclone as well as the high pressure required at the intake of the first cyclone to achieve a sound operation of the second cyclone. The disclosed invention solves the technical problem by making the feeding and discharge of both cyclones' overflows form a volute in the horizontal plane with the body of the respective cyclone and by placing, between its bottom and the expansion zone, a selectively, axially-positionable member.

Abstract: A self-cleaning, back-washable filter apparatus and method for use with a pumping apparatus which is lowered into a well casing. The filter apparatus includes a filter basket having a manifold with several tubes extending therefrom. A filter sock encases at least a portion of the filter basket to block sand or other solid particles from entry into the pump intake. Pressurized gas or fluid is directed to the manifold and then through perforations or jets distributed along the length of the tubes. Bursts of the pressurized gas are directed from the perforations or jets to the interior of the filter apparatus and then sprayed from the perforations or jets in an outwardly direction against interior surfaces of the filter sock. Air or fluid bursts from the perforations impinge upon the interior surfaces of the filter sock and dislodge or expel entrapped particulate material.
