  • Patent number: 6758653
Abstract: A ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component for a combustion turbine engine (10). A blade shroud assembly (30) may be formed to include a CMC member (32) supported from a metal support member (32). The CMC member includes arcuate portions (50, 52) shaped to surround extending portions (46, 48) of the support member to insulate the metal support member from hot combustion gas (16). The use of a low thermal conductivity CMC material allows the metal support member to be in direct contact with the CMC material. The gap (42) between the CMC member and the support member is kept purposefully small to limit the stress developed in the CMC member when it is deflected against the support member by the force of a rubbing blade tip (14). Changes in the gap dimension resulting from differential thermal growth may be regulated by selecting an angle (A) of a tapered slot (76) defined by the arcuate portion.

  • Patent number: 6758655
Abstract: In the process according to the invention for determining a nominal values curve of an installation (Hinstallation(Q), Pinstallation(Q)) for controlling the pump capacity of a pump (6) driven by an electric motor (10) with speed control in a closed system with variable capacity requirement, first all consumers in the installation are closed, one consumer operation parameter is determined at a consumer (4-n) arranged at a distance from the pump, the pump capacity is varied until the consumer operation parameter has reached a predetermined value, and, once this value has been reached, a pair of pump parameters representative for the instantaneous pump capacity is determined and stored in the controller. This measurement is repeated with different consumers being open, and from the stored values of the pairs of pump parameters the curve of nominal values (Hinstallation(Q), Pinstallation(Q)) of the installation is calculated by way of a mathematical process for establishing a curve.

  • Patent number: 6758657
Abstract: A pump (10) has a housing which forms a pump chamber (17) having a wall (18). Inlet and outlet valve assemblies (19, 20) communicate with the chamber (17) and, respectively, allow fluid to be received in, and discharged from, the chamber (17). An armature (27) carries a plunger (28) and is reciprocatably moved by an electromagnetic coil assembly (25). A coil spring (44) biases the plunger (28) toward a stop surface (41) positioned adjacent to the plunger (28). Upon activation of the coil assembly (25), the plunger. (28) is moved against the force of the spring (44) such that a diaphragm (31) carried by the plunger (28) moves into the chamber (17) without engaging the wall (18) to discharge fluid through the outlet valve assembly (20). When the coil assembly (25) is deactivated, the spring (44) moves the plunger (28) toward the stop surface (41) without allowing it to engage the stop surface (41) to draw fluid in through the inlet valve assembly (19).

  • Patent number: 6758659
Abstract: The invention includes a “floating scroll” mechanism for scroll type fluid displacement apparatus. The dual orbiting scroll has spiral vanes on both sides of the end plate. In a floating scroll, the orbiting scroll is dynamically well balanced, axially and radially. The scrolls are fully or semi-axially and radially compliant for maintaining minimum contacting forces between components, hence achieving good sealing for high speed, high efficiency, low friction wear and power loss. A crank shaft-sliding knuckle and/or peripheral crank handles-sliding knuckle mechanism provide the dual orbiting scroll with radial compliant capability. A synchronizer is used to synchronize the orientation of the crank handles to avoid the mechanism from jamming during operation and start up.

  • Patent number: 6758664
Abstract: In a disk replicating assembly, a blank disk is attached to one platen and a stamper is attached to the other platen. Pressure is applied so that the two platens are forced together, thereby transferring features from the stamper to the disk. A ball joint is located between a platen and the pressure train of the replicating assembly. Due to the ball joint at this location, the resulting pressure gradient when the stamper and disk are pressed together causes the one platen to swivel such that it orients itself substantially parallel to the other platen. Because the resistance of the ball joint is selected so that the one platen is able to pivot before the stamper significantly affects the disk, the fine features of the stamper are not transferred to the disk until the platens are in parallel alignment.

  • Patent number: 6758688
Abstract: A connector securing device (10) includes a top wall (12), a bottom wall (14), a pair of side walls (16, 26), and an end wall (18) cooperatively defining a cavity (20) therebetween for receiving a connector (50) therein. A pair of resilient tabs (30) is formed in front portions of the top and bottom walls respectively, and each resilient tab forms an outer latching portion (34) at a free end thereof. The end wall defines a through hole (40) for extension of a cable (52) of the connector therethrough. After the connector is received in the connector securing device, the combined connector and connector securing device is plugged into aligned openings (64, 68) defined in an I/O interface (60). The latching portions engage in one of the openings of the I/O interface, thereby protecting the connector from accidental detachment from a complementary mating connector at the I/O interface.
