  • Patent number: 6769635
Abstract: A fuel injector includes a homogenous charge nozzle outlet set and a conventional nozzle outlet set controlled respectively, by first and second needle valve members. One of the needle valve members moves to an open position while the other needle valve member remains stationary for a homogeneous charge injection event. The former needle valve member stays stationary while the other needle valve member moves to an open position for a conventional injection event. One of the needle valve members is at least partially positioned in the other needle valve member. Thus, the injector can perform homogeneous charge injection events, conventional injection events, or even a mixed mode having both types of injection events in a single engine cycle.

  • Patent number: 6769665
Abstract: An electric valve actuator with a failsafe device for a rotary type valve that is coupled to a drive shaft screw by means of a clutch. A cam cylinder is secured to the drive shaft screw and is also connected to the stem of the valve. A cam follower is slidably mounted upon the drive shaft and traces a cam profile form in the cylinder as the cylinder turns. A series of torsion springs are connected to the cylinder so that the springs are wound into a loaded condition as the cam cylinder moves from a valve closed position to a cam opening position. In the event of a power failure while the valve is opened, the clutch disengages the motor from the drive shaft and the springs unwind quickly to move the cam cylinder toward the valve closing position. At this time the motion of the cylinder is controlled by the cam follower which regulates the valve closing sequence.

  • Patent number: 6769666
Abstract: A valve assembly has a valve body having an inlet passageway and an outlet passageway. A flow orifice is disposed within valve body and provides flow communication between the inlet passageway and outlet passageway. A valve seat cooperates with the flow orifice and a variable port valve plug to open and close the valve. The valve plug has a plug body with a conically-shaped smooth tapered wall, a proximal end, and a domed distal end surface that smoothly transitions into the tapered wall. The valve plug is movable between an open position out of contact with the valve seat and a closed position borne against the valve seat. A maximum open position of the valve plug relative to the valve seat can be selectively changed to vary flow characteristics through the valve assembly.

  • Patent number: 6769671
Abstract: A humidifier includes a reservoir for containing water, a wick wettable by water contained in the reservoir and a humidifier bottle for supplying water to the reservoir. The bottle is pivotally situated in the humidifier and a translating member is responsive to the angular movement of the humidifier bottle. The translating member includes a visual indicator thereon to indicate the amount of water contained in the bottle. A biasing member cooperates with the translating member to situate the humidifier bottle in a first angular position in response to the bottle being empty, such that the bottle is displaced from the first angular position within the receptacle when the bottle contains water. The amount of angular displacement of the bottle is a function of the amount of water in the bottle. A light source may be provided to illuminate the display window in response to movement of the translating member.

  • Patent number: 6769672
Abstract: Vapor and liquid passing downward through a vessel are brought into contact within a plurality of distributor assemblies arranged across a horizontal distribution tray located within the vessel. The distributor assemblies have fluid flow paths with different resistances to fluid flow, as by having vapor inlets of at least two different sizes, with the differently sized inlets being located on different assemblies or on different upflow channels of the same assembly. This provides different vapor flow rates and liquid flow rates in different upflow channels. The invention improves the uniformity of liquid distribution over the cross section of the vessel despite elevational differences in liquid levels on the distribution tray or changes in the vapor and or liquid flow rates through the reactor.

  • Patent number: 6769673
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for the gasification or aeration of liquids. Elongated aeration elements are connected to a distribution conduit and have an essentially rigid support tube about which is disposed a membrane of elastomeric material. Compressed gas introduced between the support tube and membrane escapes via slits in the membrane. An elastically deformable fitting is disposed between the distribution conduit and one of the aeration elements, and is disposed in a bore in the conduit. The fitting has an essentially flat portion, one side of which rests against the outer surface of the conduit, and the other side of which rests against an end of the aeration element. A hollow bolt is securely connected to the aeration element and is guided through a bore in the fitting into the interior of the conduit, where it is provided with apertures.
