  • Patent number: 6802653
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a method and adaptor apparatus for optically connecting optical fibers of a standard ferrule based parallel multi-mode fiber format plug with photonic devices of a connector sleeve arranged in accordance with a miniature form factor format. The adaptor includes an adaptor jacket having a first end that is optically connected to a second end. The first end is configured to receive a connector plug having optical fibers arranged in a standard ferrule based parallel multi-mode fiber format. The second end is formatted for connection with a miniature form factor connector sleeve having an optical subassembly fitted thereon. Thus, the photonic devices of an optical subassembly arranged in the miniature form factor format can be optically coupled, via the adaptor jacket, to corresponding optical fibers of the connector plug arranged in a standard ferrule based parallel multi-mode fiber format.

  • Patent number: 6802666
Abstract: The invention relates to a sealing connecting element, a sealing end piece and a seal. In practice different seals are known which are produced as three dimensional structures and then given to the customer. The production, wherein profile strips are ready-made by cutting and adhesion to form the three dimensional structures or wherein the three dimensional structure is obtained by means of corner injection molding, is very costly. In order to simplify the production of seals, it is provided in accordance with the invention that sealing connecting elements and/or sealing end pieces are to be produced as separate molded parts made of a thermoplastic elastomer and these molded parts to be connected, shortly before the installation of a seal, to sealing profile strips to form a complete seal.

  • Patent number: 6802670
Abstract: An advanced containment system for containing buried waste and associated leachate. A trench is dug on either side of the zone of interest containing the buried waste so as to accommodate a micro tunnel boring machine. A series of small diameter tunnels are serially excavated underneath the buried waste. The tunnels are excavated by the micro tunnel boring machine at a consistent depth and are substantially parallel to each other. As tunneling progresses, steel casing sections are connected end to end in the excavated portion of the tunnel so that a steel tube is formed. Each casing section has complementary interlocking structure running its length that interlocks with complementary interlocking structure on the adjacent casing section. Thus, once the first tube is emplaced, placement of subsequent tubes is facilitated by the complementary interlocking structure on the adjacent, previously placed, casing sections.

  • Patent number: 6802680
Abstract: A torque limiting fastener includes a fastener body and a fastener head insert configured to fit within the fastener body and to transfer a limited amount of torque to the body. The fastener body has a head with a bore formed therein and having a first set of protrusions. The head has a large number of downward open suction chambers arranged for being moved downward against the upper side of an upper layer of individually or groupwise packed goods on a pallet. Individual valves are connected with a vacuum source preferably integrated in the lift head, with individual valves between the suction chambers and the vacuum source being ball valves with spherical valve bodies interacting with round valve openings with preferably spherical valve seats. The valve openings are arranged for being automatically actuated to shut off the ball valves if an associated suction chamber is not blocked downwardly by contacting the upper side of the goods at the uppermost pallet layer.

  • Patent number: 6802689
Abstract: Abnormality in an amount of a working gas leaked from between a rotating ring adapted to rotate with a rotor and a stationary ring of a turbo fluid machine is detected by a pressure switch and a flow meter, which are provided in a primary seal vent line, the working gas leaking from sealing surfaces of the labyrinth seal and the secondary dry gas seal, together with a purge gas purged to the space from outside is discharged outside the machine from a flow passage via a space. When abnormality generates in the secondary dry gas seal, a control valve provided in the purge gas line operates to secure a flow rate in the purge gas line, so that a flow rate detected by the flow meter provided in the purge gas line increases, and thus abnormality in the secondary dry gas seal is detected.

Abstract: Both air duct inlet silencers and air duct outlet silencers for use with a stationary gas turbine are disclosed. The sound attenuating duct unit suitable for connecting to an outlet of a stationary gas turbine includes a housing having a horizontal housing section and a vertical housing section and having sidewalls surrounding a main airflow passageway that extends along a substantial bend. An air inlet is located at one end of the horizontal housing section and is adapted for connection to the outlet of the gas turbine. Preferably two air outlets are located proximate to an upper end of the vertical housing section. Splitters are mounted in the housing, and they divide sections of the main airflow passageway into smaller air passageways. At least one of the splitters is positioned upstream in the main airflow passageway relative to other splitters. The splitters contain sound attenuating material capable of withstanding airflow temperatures in the main airflow passageway of at least 500 degrees Celsius.

  • Patent number: 6802693
Abstract: A vortex generating apparatus has the capability of attracting and removably adhering one or more solid objects. The apparatus comprises an impeller housed within a shell. The vortex attractor generates a vortical fluid flow generally in the form of a helical or spiral shaped flow. The fluid flow creates a low pressure region extending from the impeller end of the device. This low pressure region is contained by the walls of the fluid flow, thus directing the attractive forces toward a surface and minimizing effects of ambient fluid on the system. When the surface is part of a stationary object, wall, floor or ceiling, the vortex attractor may move toward and adhere to the surface. When the surface is part of a movable object, the vortex attractor may attract the object and maintain the attracted position.

Abstract: Easy to attach and detach blades for overhead ceiling fans. A first version has a ceiling fan blade with keyhole slots that fit over flat topped fasteners on a mounting arm. Pulling the blade away from the arm locks the slots to the fasteners. A second version is similar to the first and has a decorative bottom cover having snappable tapered protrusions which attach through the keyholes and into mateable through-holes in the mounting arm connection. The third version has a protruding end portion of the blade that fits into a slot in the mounting arm where spring loaded pistons press into grooves in the protrusion end portion of the blade. Latching handles allow users to manually move the pistons. A fourth version has a slot in the blade which fits about a mateable housing in the mounting arm where opposing spring loaded pistons press into interior wall grooves in the slot of the blade.
