Other calcium additions may be made simultaneously with the adding of aluminum, and after the adding of aluminum but before casting the melt. The calcium additions deoxidize the melt to minimize the formation of clustered aluminum-oxygen-based inclusions.

    Abstract: Steel wires and steel rods with excellent cold forging properties and used in a manufacture of various machine components, which have relatively high strengths, are disclosed. The steel wires are produced by maintaining a product (n×YS) of a yield strength (YS) and a work hardening coefficient (n) obtained by a tensile test of the steel wire within a range of 4.0-11.0 kgf/mm2, without a need of additional quenching and tempering treatments after cold forging. There is no need to perform heating for spheroidizing annealing for a long time, and it is possible to produce quenched and tempered steel wires having excellent cold forging properties by quenching and tempering treatments in a short period of time.

    Abstract: Checked luggage security sleeve system for airlines provides a cover or sleeve of transparent plastic sheeting having a closed end and an open end to receive a piece of luggage. The cover identifies the airline and reaches partially around the base of the piece of luggage. Security tape identifying the airline seals the free end of the sleeve under the base of the piece of luggage near the center, exposing wheels at an end or spaced along a side of the base of the piece of luggage. The tape cannot be removed without leaving evidence of tampering. If the piece of luggage is searched, the screener cuts airline tape and applies security tape printed with their logo. Self-adhesive labels with matching identification number and flight number are placed on the sleeve on each side of the luggage, which matches a passenger self-adhesive label number expediting arrival pickup.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying labels to products of various sizes employs a printer and applicator head using air as a propellant. Control circuitry responsive to sensors located on the apparatus position the labels on the applicator head and trigger the ejection of a label onto a target surface. Labels to be printed are continuously supplied to the printer and applicator head from a label supply strip wound on a label feed reel mounted on the apparatus. The portion of the label liner extending between the feed reel and take-up reel is provided with a detector which can detect a lag in liner tension and activate the take-up reel to restore tension each time a lag condition is detected.

    Abstract: A reduced friction, quiet, flexible door for use with dispensers and enclosures such as garages and warehouses. The door preferably comprises a first slat, a second slat, and one or more flexible elongate members for maintaining the first slat relative to the second slat so that when the flexible door is in a closed position, the first slat is spaced apart from the second slat. The door is preferably also configured to maintain the first slat relative to the second slat so that the first slat does not contact the second slat as the door is moved between an open and a closed position. In one embodiment of the invention, the door comprises three or more slats that are linked together so that they do not substantially engage each other while the door is closed or while the door is being moved between an open and a closed position.

    Abstract: Soft throughdried tissues, which are sufficiently soft to serve as premium bathroom tissues, can be made without the use of a Yankee dryer. The typical Yankee functions of building machine direction and cross-machine direction stretch are replaced by a wet end rush transfer and the throughdrying fabric design, respectively. It is particularly advantageous to form the tissue with chemimechanically treated fibers in at least one layer. The resulting tissues have high bulk (about 6 cubic centimeters per gram or greater) and low stiffness.

    Abstract: An aluminum casting method includes the step of applying in advance a mold release agent including magnesium to a mold surface. Thereafter, a nitrogen gas is injected into a cavity to cause reaction between the magnesium in the surface of the mold release agent and the nitrogen gas, thereby forming magnesium nitride.
