Publication number: 20050072255Abstract: A transmission system is provided utilizing multiple sets of clutch friction elements, each engaged to transfer torque from a torque input, such as an engine, to different gear ratios. The sets of clutch friction elements are operated simultaneously to provide a blended, gear ratio to a drivetrain. By varying the engagement of the clutch elements, and thus the proportion of the torque transferred to the gear ratio associated with each set of friction elements, an intermediate, effective gear ratio is developed. This effective gear ratio can be increased or decreased in response to external stimuli, such as vehicle and/or engine sensors, by modifying the degree of engagement of each set of clutch friction elements, and thus the proportion of torque transferred by each set of elements to its associated gear ratio.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2004Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventors: Paul McCrary, Karl-Heinz Bauer

Publication number: 20050072256Abstract: A transmission, by means of inserting an electric motor between a couple of clutch shafts of twin-clutch type automatic transmission and controlling the torque and speed of the electric motor, establishing a smooth and efficient gear shifting control as well as enable to realize a creep control, idling stop starting control, R-to-D, D-to-R selecting control. The pre-stage gear is released after the torque transfer is completed with the electric motor, and the clutch is exchanged after synchronizing the motor speed with the electric motor. As the friction control of the clutch is not performed, smooth gear shift work can be realized, and the same control scheme extends to creep control, idling stop starting control, R-to-D, D-to-R selecting control to be enabled, which leads to such an effect that the life is extended without the clutch being worn away, as well as the drivability can be increased remarkably.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2004Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventors: Masahiko Ibamoto, Hiroshi Kuroiwa

Publication number: 20050072298Abstract: A portable gas fractionalization apparatus that provides oxygen rich air to patients is provided. The apparatus is compact, lightweight, and low-noise. The components are assembled in a housing that is divided into two compartments. One compartment is maintained at a lower temperature than the other compartment. The lower temperature compartment is configured for mounting components that can be damaged by heat. The higher temperature compartment is configured for mounting heat generating components. An air stream is directed to flow from an ambient air inlet to an air outlet constantly so that there is always a fresh source of cooling air. The apparatus utilizes a PSA unit to produce an oxygen enriched product. The PSA unit incorporates a novel single ended column design in which all flow paths and valves can be co-located on a single integrated manifold. The apparatus also can be used in conjunction with a satellite conserver and a mobility cart.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2003Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventors: Geoffrey Deane, Brenton Taylor, Rex Bare, Andrew Scherer

Publication number: 20050072299Abstract: Provided herein is an apparatus suitable for scrubbing either acidic or alkaline impurities from gas streams, wherein the gas streams to be scrubbed exist at a pressure which is only slightly higher than ambient pressure. An apparatus according to a preferred form of the invention exists substantially is the shape of a rectangular or cubic solid, having an inlet pipe which is directed to an inner chamber having a wall portion which functions as a manifold, comprising a plurality of gas conduction tubes in fluid contact with the inner chamber, and into which tubes the gas to be scrubbed enters. The gas to be scrubbed passes through holes in the walls of the gas conduction tubes and contacts a liquid absorbent substance present in the interior confines of the apparatus, which liquid is capable of reacting with one or more impurities in the gas stream, thus eliminating the impurities from the gas stream. The gas stream so treated emerges the apparatus through a gas outlet provision.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2003Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventor: Paul Thomas

Publication number: 20050072300Abstract: The use of turbulent contactors to simultaneously absorb selected acid gas components from a gas stream and flash off hydrocarbons entrained in a liquid stream which include a solvent or reagent for the selected gas component. In particular, the method comprises feeding the gas stream and liquid stream into a first contactor where they are contacted co-currently and subjected to turbulent mixing conditions, and passing the multi-phase flow from the first contactor to a second contactor. The multi-phase flow from the second contactor is subsequently separated into a gas phase and a liquid phase.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2002Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventors: Harald Linga, Inge Nilsen, Finn Nilsen, Trond Hoyland

Publication number: 20050072301Abstract: The present invention is referring to a procedure and an apparatus for collection of free methane gas from the sea bottom, destined to collect and liquefy the methane gas liberated from metastabile deposits of hydrate methane situated on the seas or oceans bottom. The procedure, in a first version of realization, according to the invention, includes the collection of free methane gas from the sea bottom in a mixture with the sea water and directing this mixture up wards to the surface, where is taking place a gravitational distribution of it on a big surface, for permitting the methane gas to separate from water. The humid captured methane gas is cooled to produce the condensation of the last seawater fraction after, which is done its cooling to the required temperature for passing from the gaseous state into the liquid state.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2003Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventor: Petru Baciu

Publication number: 20050072302Abstract: An engine is equipped with a filter assembly with a structure that prevents assembly without a filter element in place. In addition, one can choose between a cleanable metallic screen filter element or a replaceable conventional pleated paper filter element. Depending upon the circumstances, the engine user can switch between the two different filter types throughout the working life of the engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2003Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventors: Terry Miller, C. Publication number: 20050072303Abstract: A device for dehumidifying room air has a chamber consisting of at least one first cavity (1) and at least one second cavity (2). The cavities are separated by at least one water-permeable and/or water-vapor-permeable structure (3), these structures (3) lying in each case in the direction of the fluid streams flowing through the cavities (1, 2) of the chamber. In this case, a first air stream (11, 12) which is to be dehumidified flows through the first cavity (1). The second cavity (2), with its second air stream (13, 14), at least partly absorbs the moisture extracted from the first stream.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2004Publication date: April 7, 2005Applicant: Imes Management AGInventor: Urs Weidenmann

Publication number: 20050072304Abstract: The invention relates to a composite structure consisting of a relatively long filtration bar comprising, from the outside, an ultra-thin layer (26) that is selectively permeable to hydrogen and made from palladium or silver alloy. Said layer is disposed on a permeable, rigid, refractory substrate consisting of a more or less solid body (30) that is covered with an intermediary thin layer (28) having a relatively smooth surface. The body (30) and the intermediary layer (28) are made respectively by sintering with fine and ultra-fine Inconel grains. A rigid metallic axial structure (32) is embedded in the body (30). Veinlets (31), which are made in the body (30) through the destruction of thermo-destructible wires during sintering, increase the permeability of the substrate. The invention is particularly applicable to hydrogen-producing combustible gas processors.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2002Publication date: April 7, 2005Inventors: Claude Etievant, Dominique De Lapparent, Fanny Gaillard, Roger Le Cren, Karine Pointet
