  • Patent number: 6938518
Abstract: A machine manufactures buttons having coplanar shell flanges in a two-stroke operation. The machine comprises a crimp die having different resistances to advancement of a ram. The first resistance enables a metal shell margin to partially bend under a flat back that is placed on a first surface of the crimp die. The second resistance enables the shell wall to completely bend against a second surface of the crimp die so as to form flanges that lie in a single plane. Both round and rectangular buttons are manufacturable using the same basic machine. The rectangular machine uses a shifter cage on the ram that rotates in response to indexing a die table on which the crimp die and a pickup die are attached. The round machine uses a rotatable frame on the ram. With the rectangular machine, the shell is initially bent during a pickup stroke of the ram.

  • Patent number: 6938542
Abstract: An embossing tool for embossing a sheet of material has a body formed with a fissure for receiving the sheet of material, a lever pivotably mounted about a pivot point on the body and a block positionable between the lever and the body. The block has an embossing face moveable along a first axis, and further has a center riser configured to receive the lever. At least one resilient member is provided, adjacent to the embossing face along a second axis, spaced apart from the first axis, and disposed between the block and the body. When the block is positioned between the lever and the body and when the lever is pivoted about the pivot point between a first position and a second position, the lever engages the block having the axially moveable embossing face to emboss the sheet of material.

  • Patent number: 6938543
Abstract: A web fed printing machine includes a web path provided between two sequentially disposed printing units and a misregistration detector for detecting misregistration in superimposition printing performed by the printing units. During superimposition printing, cylinder fine-move mechanisms finely move corresponding plate cylinders based on detected misregistration in order to adjust the registration. A web path length modification mechanism is provided in the web path. A control unit is connected to the web path length modification mechanism, the misregistration detector, and a paster. When a pasting signal is generated, the plate cylinder fine-move mechanisms stop making registration adjustment. At predetermined timing, the misregistration detector detects misregistration in printing performed by the printing units. The web path length modification mechanism performs a misregistration elimination action based on detected misregistration.

  • Patent number: 6938545
Abstract: A sheet-fed printing press includes a printing section for printing on sheets of paper, a sheet discharge section for discharging sheets of paper printed at the printing section from the printing section, a see-through part provided on the upper side of the sheet discharge section so that the inside of the sheet discharge section can be visually observed therethrough, and a color check table, on which a printed sheet of paper picked up from the sheet discharge section is placed for color checking thereof The color check table is located so as to at least partially cover the see-through part from above. The color check table is designed to be movable in a sheet transfer direction so that an area of the see-through part exposed to the outside on the downstream side of the color check table is increased as the color check table is moved towards an upstream side of the sheet transfer direction.

Abstract: A print screen tonal control and compensation system and method are provided in which a compensated density curve is utilized to increase press predictability, performance, resources consumption, color variation, and quality. A computerized test pattern is generated, and by applying computer to plate technology, a printed press produces a printed test pattern. The test pattern is subsequently analyzed to identify the plugging point of the production run, and a compensated density curve is created to eliminate plugging within the production pattern. The density curve is then used to generate a compensated printing plate for use in a production press run.
