Abstract: A reinforcement bracket is provided for buckling and shearing opposing support of a wooden I-joist. The reinforcement bracket may have two substantially parallel bridging structures combined by a spacing structure while providing a central contour recess. In the case where a hole is cut into a wooden I-joist in size and/or at a location exceeding the I-joist's safety standards, the reinforcement bracket may be laterally attached to the I-joist such that both bridging structures flank the cut hole while the cut hole remains accessible due to the central contour recess. The central recess contour provides thereby for a simple attachment at a construction site irrespective an eventual pipe or the like protruding through the cut hole. The reinforcement bracket is preferably monolithically fabricated from sheet metal and scaled in conjunction with dimensional standards of commercially available wooden I-joists.

Abstract: A novel roll-forming machine is disclosed for making caps to cover rain gutters and prevent the entry of debris into the rain gutters that cause damming and overflow. The roll-forming machine may be used in a predetermined manner to manufacture caps of different profiles in substantially any desired length, thus substantially reducing the number of joints between adjacent sections and increasing the amount of water run-off captured within the rain gutters. Also disclosed is a unique rain gutter cap profile substantially complementing the generally angular design of standard rain gutters while still maximizing the redirection of water into the underlying rain gutter while keeping potentially clogging debris from entering the rain gutter.

Abstract: A foundation shock eliminator includes an upper block, a lower stationary base, an interconnecting assembly and an energy damping coating. The lower stationary base is mounted under the upper block. The interconnecting assembly is mounted between the upper block and the lower stationary base and includes an upper track, a lower track and a track joint. The upper and the lower tracks are respectively attached to the upper block and the lower stationary base and are arranged in a cross. The track joint is slidably mounted between the tracks. The energy damping coating mounted in the foundation shock eliminator absorbs shock energy. Consequently, the upper block will move relative to the lower stationary base to counterbalance the most horizontal shock effects and cooperates with the energy damping coating absorbing the shock energy in both horizontal and vertical directions so that reduction of shock is efficient.

Abstract: A process of preparing and a method of storing porous poly (vinyl acetal) resin body. A method of storing the porous body involves keeping the porous body wet and free of contamination with organic substances, dissolved ions, and other fine particles. The storing method also involves keeping the body free of mold and avoiding pre-cleaning after a prolonged period of storage.

Abstract: A machine is provided for wrapping film around a bale of agricultural product. The wrapping machine comprises of a table for receiving the bale and rotating the same about a horizontal axis. The design includes a dispenser unit for holding a roll of film and dispensing to the bale. There is a mechanism for rotating the dispenser unit relative to the bale about a second axis. An arm assembly is movable between a first position and a second position in which the arm assembly is capable of holding an end of the film. The arm assembly comprises a roller extending lengthwise. The stationary guide member prevents that film, which is screwed outwardly along the roller during the downward movement of the arm assembly, reaches the end of the same and hooks therebehind, such that the film is not torn before the next wrapping cycle is started.

Abstract: An animal training apparatus including an collar-supported electronic device having stimulus electrodes extending therefrom and a partially elastic collar for holding the electronic device so as to press conductive tips of the stimulus electrodes against a neck of the animal. The partially elastic collar includes a non-elastic strap section having a free first end and a second end, an elastic strap section having a first end attached to the second end of the non-elastic strap section and a second end attached to a buckle. The elastic strap section stretches to accommodate changes in the circumference of the neck so as to maintain at least a minimum tensile force in the collar as the circumference of the neck varies from a minimum to a maximum value as result of normal movement of the animal's head to thereby maintain the position of the electronic device against the neck.

Abstract: A dust collecting apparatus for use in a vacuum cleaner provides improved suction cleaning efficiency. The dust collecting apparatus includes a main body comprising a suction port through which a dust-laden air is drawn, and a first and a second discharge ports through which filtered air is discharged. A filter unit disposed between the suction port and the first discharge port, filters out dusts from the air. A parallel cyclone unit, disposed between the suction port and the second discharge port, removes dusts from the air by centrifugal force. The first discharge port is larger in sectional area than the second discharge port, and therefore, the filter unit has higher dust removal rate than the cyclone unit in the initial stage of the operation. Accordingly, the dust collecting apparatus can provide greater initial suction cleaning efficiency than a dust collecting apparatus having only the cyclone unit.

Abstract: A fluid filter is disclosed which comprises a layer of high loft, non-woven, fibrous, fluid-permeable material having a length and a width, an upper surface, a lower surface, and a thickness measured between the upper and lower surfaces which is non-constant. The non-constant thickness is achieved by providing a series of spaced-apart grooves separated by a series of spaced-apart ridges. The lower surface is substantially planar and the grooves each have a generally U-shaped cross section with the ridges having a generally inverted U-shaped cross section. A modified form of the invention is also disclosed wherein the zones of higher flow resistance have a greater density than the zones of lower flow resistance. In this embodiment, the thickness of the filter is constant. The method of filtering particulate material from a fluid stream is also disclosed.

Abstract: A filter element includes a filter web pleated in an essentially zigzag manner and made, in particular, of a nonwoven material, for insertion into a holder such as a filter frame and/or a filter housing, having at least one end-positioned wall of an essentially flat design. The filter element includes at least one end face, viewed in the direction of the pleats. To achieve a tighter seal, the end face of the filter element is curved outward in a defined convex manner, and the filter web material is selected and/or its end face conditioned so that, when inserted into the holder, the end face of the filter web may be placed leak-tight against the end wall of the holder without corrugation under elastic pre-tension.

Abstract: In a method for adjusting the fuel/air ratio in an internal combustion engine (1) comprising a converter (2) which is associated therewith, a composition of waste gas in the waste gas wing (3, 8) of the internal combustion engine (1) is detected by means of sensors (4, 5) and output signals from at least one of the sensors (4, 5) are used for producing a control signal in order to influence the fuel/air ratio. The fuel/air ratio is switched back and forth between a lean operating state with surplus oxygen and a rich operating state with an oxygen deficit by means of a characteristic line of the control signal. The characteristic line of the control signal is adapted to a current converter state. A characteristic curve contour of the characteristic line is adjusted according to the addition and/or desorption of an oxidation agent in the converter (2). The invention also relates to a device for carrying out said method.
