Abstract: A vacuum attachment includes an aerodynamic bell housing, a distribution plate defining blast gate openings, blast gates, and means for biasing each gate toward a closed configuration. The plate attaches to the housing's first end. The gates attach to the plate for selectively covering the gate openings. An outer face of each gate includes an indented configuration. Gate openings may include internal threads. A filter may be positioned in the housing. The housing attaches to the vacuum's inlet port. Vacuum lines are inserted in the gate openings, moving the gates from closed to open configurations. The lines are locked into place by the gates' configurations and biasing means, and attached lines operate concurrently. Size and arrangement of the gate openings maintain the vacuum's airflow velocity and optimal flow patterns. To remove a line, it is withdrawn from the respective gate opening. The biasing means then automatically closes the corresponding gate.

The glide test system is initially calibrated using calibration disks. The method of the invention periodically tests the calibration without interrupting the production testing by lowering the rotation rate until glide head collides with the rotating disk surface. The rotation rate at which the collision occurs is then compared with the value expected based on knowledge of disk samples and the initial calibration. Parameters for acceptable high and low values are established to detect changes in the glide test system performance to trigger automatic or manual recalibration.

Abstract: In a method for adjusting the rotation angle position of the camshaft of a reciprocating-piston engine in relation to the crankshaft in which the crankshaft is in drive connection with the camshaft via an actuating gear, which is designed as a three-shaft gear having a drive shaft in a fixed mounting on the crankshaft, an output shaft in a fixed mounting on the camshaft and an actuating shaft which is in drive connection with an actuating motor, a measured value for the crankshaft rotation angle is determined for at least one crankshaft measurement point in time. For at least two actuating shaft measurement points in time, a measured value for the actuating shaft rotation angle is determined digitally.

Abstract: A substrate conveyor-positioner unit for conveying and positioning a substrate in an X direction is arranged on a supporting base. Supporting frames are arranged in a standing manner on both ends in a Y direction being orthogonal to the X direction on the supporting base. A component supplying unit is arranged on at least one end side in the Y direction on the supporting base. A plurality of Y-axis tables is laid between upper ends of the both supporting frames at an appropriate interval. An X-axis table is attached to a movable portion of each Y-axis table. An operating head for holding a component by suction at the component supplying unit and for mounting the component on the substrate on the substrate conveyor-positioner unit is attached to a movable portion of the X-axis table. Moreover, a height of upper ends of the supporting frames is located below eyes of a worker to enable the worker to visually confirm conditions of mounting operations.

Abstract: Two types of resin films are prepared for manufacturing a multi-layer board containing a chip component. A fist type has a via hole for the chip component to be inserted into, while a second type does not have the via hole. Resin films including the two types are piled before the chip component is inserted. At least a given resin film of the first type has a via hole provided with protruding members. Of the protruding members, opposing protruding members form a gap between their tips. This gap is shorter than an outer dimension of the inserted chip component. The chip component crushes portion of the tips of the protruding members while being pressed and inserted into the via hole in the given resin film.

One process includes forming channels in the surface of a substrate and disposing a conductive material in the channels to form an electrode. The conductive material can also be formed on the substrate by other impact and non-impact methods. In a preferred embodiment, the method includes cutting the substrate to form a sensor having a connector portion and a transcutaneous portion, the two portions having edges that define one continuous straight line.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for repairing turbine blades of a gas turbine engine by a laser welding operation. The method uses a miniaturized laser and related apparatus. The miniaturized laser is fed through a borescope access hole to a desired location such as a high pressure turbine blade. The laser is then powered and manipulated so as to perform the desired welding operation. Filler material may also be provided in situ to accomplish the welding procedure. The method realizes a significant cost savings to the vehicle operator in that repairs can be accomplished without the need to remove the engine or disassemble the engine.
