Publication number: 20060085970Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to techniques to remove a defective head gimbal assembly (HGA) from a head stack assembly and replace the defective HGA with a good one without allowing any good HGAs to be damaged. In one embodiment, a volatile alcohol solvent is moved by gravity from a holder included in a reworking tool provided for a reworking jig to a shearing edge of a cartridge type edge mounted in the holder. The alcohol solvent is thereby deposited on the shearing edge in a drop-like shape through surface tension. The cartridge type edge is, in this condition, made to slide on a surface of an actuator arm and is thereby inserted in a gap between contacting surfaces of a base plate of a mount plate and the actuator arm. This assigns the drop-like alcohol solvent a function as a lubricant. Possible vibration can therefore be prevented from being transmitted through a carriage to other HGAs.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2005Publication date: April 27, 2006Applicant: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Junichi Hosaka, Yasuhiro Mita, Katsuo Tsubaki

Publication number: 20060085973Abstract: Ease and scope of use of a substrate-related-operation performing apparatus are improved. The substrate-related-operation performing apparatus such as a component mounting apparatus employs an operation performing head 21 such as a mounting head 21, such that the operation performing head 21 is detachably attached to the apparatus. Preferably, a plurality of operation performing heads 21 having different constructions can be replaced with each other. In this case, each operation performing head 21 includes a recording medium 400 in which individual information of the head 21 is recorded, and the apparatus reads the individual information from the medium, recognizes (500), based on the read individual information, information related to the head 21, and prepares, based on the recognized head-related information, for using the head 21 attached to the apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2003Publication date: April 27, 2006Applicant: FUJI MACHINE MFG. Publication number: 20060085975Abstract: Provided is a method and system for placing components by means of at least one component placement unit wherein the component placement unit is moved over a distance between a component pickup position and a component placement position located on a substrate. In addition, a total distance to be covered by the component placement unit is calculated for the number of components to be placed, wherein the number of components to be placed is determined beforehand. This total distance value is subsequently compared with a reference value. If the total distance value is greater than the reference value, the substrate to be provided with the components is rotated with respect to the component pickup position about an axis that extends perpendicularly to the substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2005Publication date: April 27, 2006Inventor: Sebastiaan Edward van der Graaf

Publication number: 20060085976Abstract: Resilient spring contact structures are manufactured by plating the contact structures on a reusable mandrel, as opposed to forming the contact structures on sacrificial layers that are later etched away. In one embodiment, the mandrel includes a form or mold area that is inserted through a plated through hole in a substrate. Plating is then performed to create the spring contact on the mold area of the mandrel as well as to attach the spring contact to the substrate. In a second embodiment, the mandrel includes a form that is initially plated to form the resilient contact structure and then attached to a region of a substrate without being inserted through the substrate. Attachment in the second embodiment can be achieved during the plating process used to form the spring contact, or by using a conductive adhesive or solder either before or after releasing the spring contact from the mandrel.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2004Publication date: April 27, 2006Applicant: FormFactor, Inc.Inventors: Benjamin Eldridge, Gaetan Mathieu

Publication number: 20060085980Abstract: A method of manufacturing a catalytic converter is described where the catalytic converter is comprised of an outer tube member having a monolith substrate internally compressed therein with a wrapped mat material surrounding the monolith substrate and intermediate the outer tube. One or more monolith members can be applied within the outer tube and heat shields may also be applied internal to the outer tube and adjacent to the monolith substrate. The assembly of the catalytic converter includes measuring the sequence of compression of the mat material to the monolith substrate in order to understand the possible force characteristics which can be applied during the assembly thereof. The mat material is therefore compressed within the outer tube by way of compression jaws, by compression rollers, and/or by spinning. The compression of the mat material can be in single or multiple steps.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2005Publication date: April 27, 2006Inventor: David Mayfield
