Abstract: Methods for synthesis of nanocyrstalline apatites are presented, as well as a series of specific reaction parameters that can be adjusted to tailor, in specific ways, properties in the recovered product. Particulate apatite compositions having aveage crystal size of less than 150 nm are provided. Products also can have a surface area of at least 40 m2/g and can be of high density. Hydroxyapatite material is investigated in particular detail. Compositions of the invention can be used as prosthetic implants and coatings for prosthetic implants.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel cinnamide compounds that are useful for treating inflammatory and immune diseases, to pharmaceutical compositions comprising these compounds, and to methods of inhibiting inflammation or suppressing immune response in a mammal.

Abstract: Heteroarylpiperidines, pyrrolidines, and piperazines are useful as antipsychotic and analgesic agents. The compounds are especially useful for treating psychoses by administering to a mammal a psychoses-treating effective amounts of one of the compounds. The compounds are also useful as analgesics by administering a pain-relieving effective amount of one of the compounds to a mammal.

Abstract: A psoriasis treatment composition derived from the plant Asphodelus Microcarpus includes 3-methylanthralin, chrysophanol, aloe-emodin, aloe-emodin monoacetate, and/or derivatives thereof. The composition is prepared by extracting a liquid from the Asphodelus Microcarpus root and mixing the liquid with acetic acid. A method of treatment includes applying the composition to an affected area of skin at a frequency sufficient to effect an alleviation of symptoms, typically once per day for 14-56 days.

Abstract: Method of employing a balloon tube for creating a thrombosis of vessels located directly under the surface of a body cavity which is difficult to reach, through the initiation of an electric current between the balloon which is deflated as introduced into the body cavity and which is inflated by introducing a fluid on the spot and an outside electrode. The fluid which is used to inflate the balloon is electrically conductive and the balloon wall is semi-permeable for the fluid.

Abstract: A filter driver for implementing disk space quotas is described. Quota limits on disk space taken up by files in the file system are established for users and directories, and an internal database is established to track quotas against actual disk space utilization. A driver in accordance with the invention uses kernel resources of the operating system to prevent execution of file system I/O operations which would violate any established quota. In doing so, the driver executes a logic in kernel mode which serializes file allocation operations and also serializes access to the internal database. The first step in this logic is to intercept file system I/O requests before they reach the file system driver. Then the driver determines propectively—before the I/O request is completed—whether any quota would be exceeded by completion of the I/O request. If a quota would be exceeded, completion of the I/O request is blocked and an error status is issued.

Abstract: A digital video conversion system housing multiple converter chains of units in a single main box chassis. A preferred embodiment uses only a single conditional access unit to authorize decryption of premium channels in response to a smartcard. The conversion system allows a single converter box sharing consolidated decryption (access control) circuitry and a single remote control receiver to provide video output for multiple television sets on the subscriber's premises. In addition to reducing the subscriber's hardware costs per television set, a common access control allows the video service provider to grant a multiple-set discount on a single smartcard.

Abstract: A body armor accessory adds protection to unguarded areas of conventional body armor. The removable accessory comprises an axillary panel having a coverage area and is made of material that impedes the penetration of a foreign object. The accessory can be worn on either the left or right side of the wearer. The coverage area to the deltoid and flank areas of the wearer provided by the axillary panel is greater than that provided by the vest without the panel. A deltoid panel provides added protection to the deltoid area of the wearer.

Abstract: A child's bib includes a plastic string (5, 55, 56) which has a free-bearing part (55, 56) that extends from one end of the edge of the neck-surrounding recess of the bib to the front piece thereof and terminating in the proximity of the other end of the edge of said recess, said plastic string having the form of a series of beads (51) that are mutually separated by waist portions. Located at the free end portion of the string is a fastener (30) in the form of a rounded button which includes a notch-like recess (32) that receives the string and that has a restraining element (33, 34) which engages a waist portion (52) situated between two beads (51) in the string (56). The fastener is slightly undercut so as to be able to hold the string firmly with a limited force.

Abstract: A tactical flyers ensemble includes a breathable full pressure half suit (“FPHS”) bladder worn as an undergarment beneath a coverall. The coverall has a lower section specially adapted to most effectively constrain the FPHS when the latter is pressurized under flight conditions. Although thus adapted, the coverall remains fully utilitarian and can be worn with or without the FPHS under conditions other than those immediately preparatory to or during actual flight.

Abstract: A form fitting nursing tank top/undershirt made with a stretch fabric includes an invisible built in nursing bra. The invisible nursing bra is partly internal and partly external. The external portion of the built in nursing bra is the left and right shoulder straps, which from outside appearances form an integral part of the tank top/undershirt. The internal portion of the built in nursing bra is formed by a soft cup frame attached at the bottom to an elastic chest band and attached at the top to the front of the shoulder straps. In the back of the garment, the elastic chest band is attached to an internal back piece of fabric on the inside of the tank top. The internal back piece of fabric extends upward from the elastic chest band to the shoulder straps at the back, which shoulder straps each include an adjustable length section. Internal nursing flaps are attached at the bottom to the soft cup frame and at the top to the tank top body which forms external nursing flaps.

Abstract: A hat made from a camouflage-imprinted material and having a crown and a brim. The hat has a compartment in the crown for holding a bundle of camouflage strips attached to the crown and which are deployable about and over the hat brim upon opening the compartment. The hat also has a net storing feature for storing a lightweight camouflage netting about the crown on top of the brim. The net is deployable over the brim about the wearer's face, neck and shoulders.

Abstract: A helmet construction for protecting a user's head, and the brain within the cranium from impact forces, includes a shell contoured to the shape of the user's head, with cushioning along at least part of the shell interior and a chinstrap. The shell consists of three (or more) discrete panels that are physically and firmly coupled together providing rigid protection under most circumstances, but upon impact the panels move relative to one another, but not relative to the user's head, thereby permitting impact forces to be dissipated and/or redirected away from the cranium and brain within. Upon impact to the helmet, there are sequential stages of movement of the panels relative to each other, these movements initially being recoverable, but with sufficient vector forces the helmet undergoes structural changes in a pre-determined fashion, so that the recoverable and permanent movements cumulatively provide a protective ‘crumple zone’ or ‘shear zone’.

Abstract: A sanitary cleansing apparatus is provided for attachment to conventional toilets to facilitate posterior part cleansing with a cleaning fluid after use of the toilet. The “First Embodiment” utilizes a conventional toilet flush tank as its cleaning fluid source. A submergible housing, containing functional operating components and cleaning fluid, is inserted into the toilet flush tank. The submergible housing derives its cleaning fluid through a number of communicating fluid entry openings along its vertical axis while the functional operating components consist primarily of a cleaning fluid pump, a pressure release valve, and an electrical heater. A cleaning nozzle is mounted fixed or replaceable and/or moveable or stationary within the confines of a conventional toilet bowl. The cleaning nozzle creates a diffusing stream of cleaning fluid directed toward a projected cleaning space located within the confines of the toilet bowl.

Abstract: A skimmer system is provided which includes a reservoir, an inlet, a reservoir pump and a weir. The skimmer system may be attached to a tank having fluid therein. The fluid in the tank defines a tank fluid surface, and the fluid in the reservoir defines a reservoir fluid surface. The reservoir receives fluid from the tank via the inlet, and the tank receives fluid from the reservoir via the reservoir pump. When the skimmer system is activated, the level of the reservoir fluid surface may be maintained below the level of the tank fluid surface. The inlet edge is located below the level of the tank fluid surface. The inlet surface may decline away from the tank to direct the fluid from the tank to the reservoir. The filter is positioned between the inlet and the reservoir to retain particulate within the fluid. The weir defines a weir edge.

Abstract: An assembly for rapidly filing bathtubs, whirlpools, spas, washing machine drums and the like includes a basin, water storage tank(s) (such as hot and cold water storage tanks), and a system for controlling the filling of the basin from the tank(s). When it is desired to supply water to the basin, this is expedited by placing the tank(s) above the basin, using connecting piping with extra large area, using a pressure pump, and/or providing extra large delivery ports. The tank(s) are dedicated to the assembly, and preferably are closely adjacent thereto. Controls are provided to avoid excess weight gathering adjacent the basin.

Abstract: The CURVE SHOWER CURTAIN ROD is just like a straight curtain rod except the former has its' two ends bent 70 degrees. So, the end points of the whole rod assembly are at the middle of the tub, unlike that of a straight curtain rod, the end points are near the outside of the tub. The curtain of the curved shower curtain rod encloses the tub very well. It eliminates water spilling onto the floor when one is taking shower. It will take only less than a minute to assemble or disassemble the unit. No tool is needed during assembly or disassembly. The rod self supports itself very strongly against the wall. No screw, glue, nail or anything else like hanging bar is needed.

Abstract: The combination of a towel or blanket and a flexible carrying case integral therewith. The carrying case is attached at a portion of its inner surface to the towel or blanket in an upper portion thereof. The carrying case is adapted to permit the towel or blanket to be stuffed inside during transport and storage of the towel or blanket, and adapted to receive a pillow when the towel or blanket has been withdrawn from the case for use. The towel or blanket additionally includes slip cover pockets located at one or both ends and adapted to be placed over the end or ends of a lounge chair. The towel or blanket further includes pockets for storing items.

Abstract: A convalescent bed for safely restraining a bedridden patient includes a bed frame with a mattress that is raised and lowered by a hydraulic or electric lifting arm. The bed frame includes a pair of opposing guard rails one of which includes pivotally connected panels that may be deployed when the mattress is in the lowered position thereby providing a ramp on which a patient safely lands in the event he or she rolls off the mattress while receiving treatment.

Abstract: A patient support or bed is disclosed having a frame, a mattress, and a plurality of siderails. A detector is disclosed that detects a position of a siderail relative to a portion of the bed.

Abstract: A swaddling blanket for easily and swiftly swaddling an infant keeps the infant tightly bundled for security and warmth. This blanket helps calm the infant and prevents the infant from being awakened from the startling response. Safety and emotional well-being are thus promoted for both the infant and the parent. The infant looks cute and loveable when wrapped in this blanket. The blanket may be made of cotton fabric material and may be tied or tucked for size and tightness adjustments without the use of added fasteners.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a tabletop is provided for positioning a patient for diagnostic imaging of a body part. The tabletop preferably rests on a diagnostic imaging table for supporting a patient during diagnostic imaging. The tabletop is defined by (a) a top support surface for supporting a patient being imaged and (b) a bottom support surface for contacting the diagnostic imaging table. A recess, defined in the top support surface, is configured to accommodate a patient support. The recess has a depth sufficient for allowing for vertically positioning a patient on the patient support.

Abstract: The invention relates to a modular patient support system for use with radiotherapy treatments comprising a basic portion to be fixedly mounted and an exchangeable radiotransparent modular portion, said portion to be fixedly mounted being provided with a radiotransparent supporting part intended for supporting an exchangeable modular portion and means being provided for exactly positioning said modular portion in relation to said basic portion and coupling it to said basic portion.

Abstract: A conventional bedding mattress is constructed in a manner that permits light to permeate upwardly throughout the bedding components so as to illuminate the entire bed structure when a light source is placed below the mattress proper. The illuminating feature of the bed is accomplished by forming a bed mattress of a spring core section, a translucent netting layer disposed over the spring core, a unique foam padding that freely lays on top of the netting layer, and a material cover that envelopes the core and padding. The cover is provided with a clear plastic bottom portion sewn into the cover. The padding layer is translucent and this same padding is used as a padding layer within the cover. Light freely passes through the plastic of the cover, through the spring cores, then passing through the padding layer and into the cover, thereby illuminating the mattress upon provision of an underlying light source.

Abstract: A method of making a mask slipper, comprising the steps of forming a mask from a material selected from the group consisting of plastic, latex and fabric; forming a composite sole member having a first layer of inner filler material; forming a composite upper member having a second layer of inner filler material, an outer surface for receiving the mask, and an inner surface for receiving an inner lining. The method of making the mask slipper further composes the steps of attaching said mask to said outer surface of the composite upper member; attaching the inner lining to the inner surface of the composite upper member; attaching the composite sole member to the composite upper member to form the mask slipper; and turning of the mask slipper such that a correct outer side is on the outside of the formed mask slipper.

Abstract: A floor machine for cleaning floors with a rotary brush or buffer includes (1) a base assembly having a motor and skirt with no frame and (2) a handle and frame assembly. The frame/handle assembly can readily be attached to the base assembly by a simple engagement of the frame to a support mounted on the housing of the motor. This permits (1) the handle and frame assembly to be packaged in a shipping carton which need only be tall enough to accommodate the wheel diameter of the handle/frame assembly and (2) the base assembly of motor and skirt to be packaged in a second carton having a size which need only accommodate such base/motor and skirt assembly with no significant wasted space.

Abstract: An applicator for applying fluid treatments such as paint, stain, varnish or the like to surfaces such as wood. The applicator includes an elongated handle, one end of the hand serving as a primary gripping element, the other end of the handle being covered with fluid-retaining material such as natural or synthetic wool fleece or foam rubber to form an applicator pad. The portion of the handle bearing the applicator pad may be detached from the portion of the handle forming the primary gripping element. A secondary gripping element such as a knob is movable from a first position on the handle to a second position on the applicator pad.

Abstract: A gutter cleaning tool with a curved blade and a shovel blade is disclosed. The curved blade is used to collect debris in the gutter, and the shovel blade is used to push debris under a gutter strut. The present invention also includes a handle attachment means, for attachment to standard handles, including telescoping poles.

Abstract: A self-propelled appliance, such as a vacuum cleaner includes a magnetic field sensor and magnet. A relative position between the magnetic field sensor and the magnet can be changed by a user of the appliance. The magnetic field sensor generates a signal indicating a magnetic field sensed by the sensor. Therefore, the magnetic field sensor signal indicates the relative position of the magnet to the sensor. This relative position signal is interpreted as a speed and direction request for a means for propelling the appliance. The magnetic filed sensor is, for example, a Hall effect sensor. The means for propelling includes, for example, a brushless d.c motor, sensorless motor or switched reluctance motor. Forward and reverse propulsion is provided without the use of a clutch. The appliance includes a reduced number of wearing components.

Abstract: An exhaust system for a vacuum cleaner where filtered air is directed outside the main body of the vacuum cleaner through exhaust holes formed in at least one of a plurality of supporting wheels rotatably mounted to both sides of the main body. The disclosed exhaust system provides an improved aesthetic appearance in a structurally efficient design.

Abstract: A vacuum cleaner includes a dust collection compartment inside of which a dust bag with a reinforcing plate, which has a clip connected to the underside thereof, can be placed. The clip tapers toward the bottom in the shape of a funnel or trapezoid and is suited for insertion into a correspondingly configured fixture. The fixture has lateral guide elements that guide the reinforcing plate when pushed in. The configuration enables the dust bag to be easily inserted into the dust collection compartment without the involving the difficult placement inside a guide profile.

Abstract: An automobile door checker includes a check plate, a shoe holder housed in a case, a shoe that is held by the shoe holder and the shoe slides on the check plate accompanying relative movement between the case and the check plate, and a check spring that resiliently urges the shoe holder toward the check plate in order to press the shoe against the check plate. The shoe is axially supported in the shoe holder so that the shoe can swing from a neutral position to forward and backward swing limits. The shoe is provided with return-to-neutral means for exhibiting a return force that makes the shoe return to the neutral position. The contact area between the shoe and the check plate is arranged so that the frictional force in the contact area becomes the smallest when the shoe reaches the shoe swing limits.

Abstract: A cabinet door buffer bar includes a hollow tube, a shaft, an elastic element and a sliding member. The sliding member and the inner wall of the hollow tube form different intervals there between so that a resilient member mounted thereon receives varying constraints and generates different buffer forces in different moving directions thereby provides the cabinet door a required buffer force to avoid generating annoying noise and incurring damages during closing of the cabinet door.

Abstract: An integrated hinge system that provides for temporary checking of a vehicle door is provided, the system including a hinge pin, a door hinge bracket, a pillar hinge bracket, and a contact body that is affixed to the hinge pin. A latching device is affixed to the door hinge bracket and rotates with the door hinge bracket relative to the hinge pin and the contact body. The contact body defines engagement points that a latching portion of the latching device engages to releasably retain the door hinge bracket in any one of at least two angular orientations relative to the pillar hinge bracket.

Abstract: A hinge device for pivotally coupling a display to a base includes a seat for being secured with the base, a rotor, a pair of hinges, and at least one roller located on the rotor. The seat defines a hole, and a railway defined in an inner wall of the seat. The rotor includes a shaft pivotally received in the hole, and a pair of beams. Each hinge includes a first rotating member for being attached to the respective beam, and a second rotating member pivotally engaged with the first rotating member for being attached to the display. The roller is movably received in the railway. The railway defines at least two points located in two different planes perpendicular to an axial direction of the shaft. When the shaft of the rotor rotates, the roller moves along the railway to cause the rotor to move in said axial direction.

Abstract: A card top bar for a carding machine, has a carrying member and a releasable clothing portion in which card top bar there are provided two card top heads, each of which slides on a slideway, the card top heads comprise at least one sliding region, which is in contact with the slideway, and at least one fixing region, which is in engagement with the rest of the card top bar and which at the same time holds the sliding region. In order to improve the card top bar, the card top heads are in engagement with the carrier for the clothing.

The present invention provides a draft device DR including a plurality of roller pairs that pull a bundle of fibers L while feeding the bundle downstream, wherein associated air currents resulting from a roller constituting the roller pair are passed through ends of the roller, and gaps are provided which form air passages in which the air currents act as air flows forming a prevention wall that hinders spread of the bundle of fibers fed while being drafted.

Abstract: A double pressure cylinder arrangement including a first pressure cylinder and a second pressure cylinder positioned in a spaced and axis-parallel relationship to the first pressure cylinder. A carrier strut is connected to a bottom side of the first pressure cylinder and the second pressure cylinder. The carrier strut includes a intermediate section. A substantially u-shaped housing element has two leg sections. Each leg section houses one of the pressure cylinders. Connection lines for driving the first pressure cylinder and the second pressure cylinder are integrated in the intermediate section.

Abstract: A securing arrangement (10) suitable for e.g. strapping material together. The arrangement (10) comprising an elongate member (12) with a plurality of holes (20) along its length, formed into a loop. An L shaped securing member (14) is provided at or adjacent each end of the loop, with a respective formation (30) engaged with all other holes (20). A nut and bolt (50, 52) is engageable between the stems of the respective securing members (14) to close the loop to a required position.

Abstract: A fitting portion of a rotational member of a shoestring tying apparatus is fit to a rotational cap serving as an operating member of a fastening member for winding up and fastening a shoestring. The fitting portion serves as a connection between a driving mechanism and the rotational cap. When the user pulls an operating cord serving as a portion of a driving mechanism, a rotational member is rotated, and a spring included in the rotational member is wound. The rotational cap is rotated through the fitting portion due to rotation of the rotational member, thereby quickly rotating the fastening member. Thus, the fastening member can be rotated several dozen times by an operation in which the operating cord is alternately extracted and retracted several times. This provides a shoestring tying apparatus with excellent portability and appearance for easily and quickly fastening a shoestring in a sure manner.

Abstract: A cam lock device for flexible ropes, cords or similar elongated materials has a pivotable cam element with a convexly curved, preferably knurled periphery and an eccentrically located pivot point supporting it on a base. A stationary cam surface integral with the base faces the cam element and includes at least one curved surface projecting towards the cam element for wedging the elongated material between the cam element and the stationary cam surface. A retaining edge above the stationary cam surface is spaced from the base a sufficient distance to allow pivoting of the cam element in a channel between the base and the edge. A pivot pin through the pivot point is supported on opposite ends thus stably supporting the cam element.

Abstract: A mechanical knot apparatus for replacing the use of a conventional knot or fitting for fastening or securing a rope or cable to an object. A spool-like body with a slot or two holes bored crosswise across the middle of the spool perpendicular to its axis is provided. A loop is first formed in the rope by either splicing or by simply creating a loop with the use of a knot. The end of the loop is passed through the slot or holes in the spool and then passed around the object to be secured. The loop is then wrapped back over the flanges of the spool to create a hitch-like configuration. When tension is applied, the rope slips through the device until flanges or body of the spool seats against the object being secured. A secondary tightly fitting flexible ring such as a rubber “O” ring is optionally slipped around the root of the loop and can be slid up against the hitch to act as a “lock” which prevents the loop from bouncing off the flanges of the spool during severe flogging.

Abstract: A tape for slide fasteners is provided, which comprises a fastener tape 1 having one side edge that defines a zipper element tab 3 and the other side edge that defines a seam allowance 4. The fastener tape 1 is provided on its front surface with a covering tape 2 having at an edge an enclosure 6 for covering a zipper element 5 along its full length thereof. The enclosure 6 is a double-weaving enclosure through which core yarns 8 are inserted to form a core cord 9. The enclosure may be ornamented.

Abstract: The invention concerns a clamping piece having a fixing end which can be fixed to a structural profile member or the like and a clamping end having two clamping limbs which enclose a clamping eye and which can be tightened by way of a tightening means. The object of the present invention is to further develop a clamping piece of the general kind set forth in such a way that variability is increased. That is achieved in that at least one clamping limb is inclined or angled inwardly and that the tightening means are arranged displaced inclinedly with respect to the longitudinal axis of the clamping piece.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for making an absorbent composite from continuous tow is disclosed. The method and apparatus includes the steps of or means for spreading a crimped tow; de-registering the crimped tow; shaping the de-registered tow to a substantially rectangular cross-section; and distributing a particulate onto the shaped tow. The method and apparatus also include the step of or means for shielding the tow, while de-registering, from contaminants.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for installation of a handgrip on a golf club shaft is disclosed herein. The handgrip is installed on the golf club shaft wrapped in a double-sided water activated tape. The method and apparatus utilizes a minimal amount of water to provide an initial grip strength greater than 18 foot-pounds. The apparatus has a shaft retention device, a grip attachment device and a misting device.
