Abstract: A farrier's tool and a method of using the tool for preparing the hoof of a horse to receive a shoe. The tool is a symmetrical measuring device used for determining the position of the breakover point on a horse's hoof. After the position of the break-over point is determined, the portion of the hoofwall forward of the breakover point is beveled by means of a trimming tool to reduce leverage on the underlying coffin bone, particularly during locomotion. A horseshoe is then shaped to conform to the contour of the trimmed and beveled hoof and nailed to the hoof. The method provides means for accurately aligning the hoof capsule with the coffin bone in the hoof.

Abstract: A hybrid driving unit in which a first electric motor (20), a second electric motor (23), a transmission (22) and a power splitting planetary gear (21) are disposed in order from the front side (the side of an internal combustion engine) on an axis within a casing member (14). Since the first electric motor (20) and the second electric motor (23) are disposed adjacently to each other, partial cases for storing these first and second electric motors (20) and (23) may be combined, thus facilitating the accommodation for producing the unit in series.

Abstract: An apparatus and method determine a start-up of a sensorless motor. The apparatus includes an elapsed time determination unit, a motor velocity determination unit and an abnormal start-up determination unit. The elapsed time determination unit determines whether a predetermined time has elapsed after a start-up of the motor is initiated. The motor velocity determination unit determines whether a velocity of the motor exceeds a predetermined velocity value when the predetermined time has elapsed. The abnormal start-up determination unit determines that the motor was abnormally started up when the velocity of the motor does not exceed the predetermined value, and an amount of current flowing in the motor does not exceed a predetermined current value.

Abstract: A rain gutter system for a vehicle hood includes a vehicle hood having an opening. A rain gutter is mounted to the hood underneath the opening. At least one contoured area is on at least one side of the rain gutter, wherein there is a space in between the contoured area and the hood, such that water may flow through the hood opening, along the rain gutter and out of the rain gutter at the space. The rain gutter may include a series of grooves or another pattern molded into the gutter. The hood may be made of a moldable material, with threaded members being molded into the hood. The rain gutter may be mounted with bolts or screws at the threaded members. A grill may be associated with the opening. The rain gutter may be molded and may be made of a moldable material, such as fiberglass, another composite, or a polymer.

Abstract: An electric four-wheel drive vehicle and a control unit for the same, which can be applied to cars of class having larger displacements than the class to which the electric four-wheel drive vehicle equipped with the DC motor is applied, without increasing the cost over that of the known mechanical four-wheel drive vehicle. Front wheels of the vehicle are driven by an engine, and rear wheels are driven by an AC motor. A generator is driven by a rotating force of the engine to output DC power. An inverter converts the DC power outputted from the generator to AC power. A control unit controls the generator such that energy Pm required for driving the AC motor is outputted from the generator.

Abstract: A tractor has hydraulically driven wheels at a cab end and castor wheels at an engine end. It can be driven cab forward in a working mode with a header on the forward end. It is rotated to engine forward in the transport position for more stable higher speed travel. The driver's console is rotated in the cab with the steering and speed control elements moved with the seat for the driver to face forwards and its position is detected by switches. In the engine forward position for transportation, the control system detects the seat position and operates the controls for higher speed drive and to prevent operation of the header. A vehicle emblem SMV is located on the back of the driver's seat so that it is visible to a person behind regardless of the direction of travel.

Abstract: A fluid pressure disturbance damping arrangement for a fluid-driven actuation device includes an actuator, a fluid pump, a fluid supply line for delivering fluid from the pump to the actuator at relatively high pressure and a fluid return line for delivering fluid from the actuator to the pump at relatively low pressure. The damping arrangement includes an elongate flexible damping hose in fluid communication with at least one of the supply and return lines. The hose includes a longitudinal axis and about the axis a peripheral wall defining, in a cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the axis, a non-circular area of magnitude related to pressure exerted on the peripheral wall by a contained fluid. The peripheral wall is responsive to impulsive or vibrational pressure disturbances in the contained fluid to deform and restore locally changing the shape of the cross-section area defined thereby to dissipate energy associated with the pressure disturbance.
