  • Patent number: 7171878
Abstract: The invention relates to a machining unit in which the pieces are carried by an electric turning spindle radially arranged on a turret with a vertical axis of rotation. On rotation of the turret the pieces are successively introduced into machining stations, arranged peripherally around said turret and comprising tool support means. A large space is thus available around the periphery of the machine for housing the tools. The electric turning spindles are adapted to selectively hold the pieces at any fixed angle, thus permitting not only turning operations but also other machining operations on fixed pieces.

  • Patent number: 7171884
Abstract: Steel reinforced tire fabrics are cut with long rigid bar blades, circular disc blades and disc and anvil blades. All of these blades may have an open relatively deep slot spaced close to the cutting edge that creates a resilient cantilevered spring element that includes the cutting edge. In response to cutting forces, the spring element will deflect and form a concave crossover area that improves cutting. A supporting material, particularly a precompressed supporting material, such as a precompressed or stretched polyurethane strip may be inserted into the slot. The supporting material limits or reduces the deflection of the spring element so that the yield strength of the spring element is not exceeded and it returns to its original position when the forces are removed. A precompressed supporting material exerts an outward force on the spring element. A polyurethane strip may be precompressed by stretching it before it is inserted into the slot.

  • Patent number: 7171886
Abstract: To seal a pipe mortar, a sealing element (3, 6) is inserted between the pipe (1) and the base (2), with the element elastically balancing out the axial relative movements between the pipe (1) and the base (2). The sealing element (3) is preferably prestressed, with the gas pressure supporting the sealing effect. The sealing element (3, 6) can be a U-shaped or L-shaped steel ring. In the U-shaped sealing element (3), the legs (3.1) are axially prestressed to the extent that the sealing ring (3) and the pipe (1) or the base (2) are pressed together to produce an adequate seal. In the L-shaped sealing element (6), the inside leg (6.1) produces the gas-tight connection when the pipe (1) and the base (2) are screwed together. A sealing lips (6.2) of the sealing ring (6) elastically absorbs changes in length between the pipe and the base that occur during firing.

  • Patent number: 7171893
Abstract: A rotary press is supported on a frame allowing liquid and solid receivers to be placed underneath the rotary press. The rotary press has an outer ring and an inner drum. The inner drum has an upper and lower flange with a stripper ring retained between these flanges. The flanges form two sides of the cavity where the pressing takes place. The flanges carry the solids away from the pressing zone to a discharge zone where the stripper ring expels the solids. By transporting the solids away from the pressing zone where liquids are expelled, reabsorption of the liquid is avoided. The stripper ring can move relative to the two flanges and is biased against the outer ring by the inner ring. The stripper ring applies pressure to the material to be processed and also pushes solid material from between the upper and lower flanges to fall into a receiver for the solids.

  • Patent number: 7171897
Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing hybrid, closed-loop control that generates control values for processes defined by a limited number of function evaluations and large amounts of process and measurement noise. The described control system is applied to a stencil printing process for applying solder paste to an electronic medium such as a printed circuit board or semiconductor wafer. The control system is defined by a hybrid approach. A first, coarse algorithm is used to rapidly produce the value of a stencil printer control value resulting in a solder paste deposit having a volume within predetermined acceptable limits. After the coarse algorithm no longer produces solder paste deposits closer to a desired volume, a second, more refined estimator is used to fine tune the process. An additional transitional algorithm may be added between the coarse algorithm and refined estimator.

  • Patent number: 7171907
Abstract: A drive system for a railway hopper car discharge gate includes a door panel operated by a rack and pinion drive. The pinion teeth present a substantially cylindrical profile in a plane orthogonal to the axis of pinion rotation. The cylindrical tooth profile substantially prevents the pinion teeth from skipping or walking against the rack teeth when the spacing between the pinion and the door panel and associated rack fluctuates during operation of the discharge gate. Pinion torque is converted into a vertical force at the ends of travel of the door panel to prevent damage to the drive components. A bearing arrangement supports a drive shaft that is operated to rotate the pinions, and minimizes deflection of the shaft when under rotational load. An inertia brake is provided to engage the door panel and prevent it from opening upon a rapid stop of the hopper car as may occur upon impact with an adjacent railway car.

  • Patent number: 7171917
Abstract: An asymmetric boat anchor has an unballasted fluke (2), with a tip (6) and a back (8) with a curved edge (10); a shank (4) is mounted on the fluke. The edge (26) of the shank away from the tip (6) of the fluke is curved and the free end of the shank (18) is offset from a plane (30) tangent to the back edge (10) of the fluke and to the edge (26) of the shank. Thus, if the anchor is in a reverse position, contacting the sea ground through the edge of the shank and the back edge of the fluke, it will roll on the edge of the shank and turns to the anchoring position.

  • Patent number: 7171925
Abstract: A method for reversing the direction of rotation of a two-stroke engine whose rotational speed and crank mechanism position are sensed by a sensor system. To reverse the direction of rotation of the engine, the ignition and/or the fuel supply is first switched off, and upon a subsequent coasting of the engine, a targeted early ignition is set when a specific limiting rotational speed is undershot and after, if appropriate, the fuel supply has been resumed. Early ignition reverses the direction of rotation of the engine, and the fuel supply and ignition are subsequently controlled in accordance with the reversed direction of rotation. A single sensor interacts with an incremental transducer having a specific number of transducer segments distributed uniformly over a circumference to determine the instantaneous angular speed of the crank mechanism and the crank mechanism position.

Abstract: A control method for an electronically controlled thermostat includes that an actuator is used for cooling-water control of an internal combustion engine and the actuator is capable of optionally varying the valve-opening ratio. An engine control unit computes a target temperature by means of various engine parameters and distributes the power distribution amount required to operate the actuator so that the cooling water temperature reaches the target temperature. The power distribution amount distributed to the actuator is determined by monitoring only the actual water temperature of the cooling water.
