  • Patent number: 7201061
Abstract: A system and method for assisting in real time alignment of an alignment specimen within a load frame. In one implementation an instrumented alignment specimen is used to provide information from which the deflection of the specimen at various points along the specimen can be determined. The deflection information is then used to calculate deflection values in X, Y and Z coordinate axes in real time. The deflection values are then scaled by a desired factor and then used to generate a three dimensional representation of the alignment specimen. This produces a slightly exaggerated, three dimensional representation of the alignment specimen illustrating its deformation as a result of concentric and/or angular misalignment of the lower head of the load frame relative to the upper head.

  • Patent number: 7201065
Abstract: A fluid flow sensor uses pairs of acoustic transducers to generate quasi-helical acoustic beams reflected multiple times from an inside surface of a pipe. The transducers are arranged so that each two pairs generate counter-rotating beams. When fluid flowing in the pipe has both a rotary and an axial flow component the rotary component adds to the apparent flow rate measured in one rotational direction and subtracts from that measured in the other. Hence, a combination of transit time measurements along the two paths can be used to cancel out the effects of the rotary flow component and yield a measure of the rate of flow along the pipe axis. In some cases multiple probes are used to increase the amount of flowing fluid that is sampled.

  • Patent number: 7201070
Abstract: A rotational angle detecting apparatus, in which first targets and second targets, the number thereof is coprime with each other, are provided at the rotors rotating coaxially with each other. Rotational angle of the rotor is detected based on the detection signals from each of two sensors disposed opposite to the targets respectively, which output detection signals having phases different from each other as the rotor rotates. Based on a magnitude relation between one detection signal and the other detection signal from each of the two sensors, the range of the electrical angle of the other detection signals is determined. Relation between a detection signal and an electrical angle is stored in advance. Based on the determined electrical angle, and referring to the relation, the electrical angle of the other detection signal is obtained; thus, the rotational angle of the rotor is detected.

  • Patent number: 7201071
Abstract: A wide range continuous diluter for diluting gases that contain small particles to allow subsequent measurement of the diluted gases with an instrument is provided. A dilution gas inlet receives a dilution gas, and a sample gas inlet receives a sample gas. A flow meter measures the sample gas flow rate. A mixer receives and mixes the dilution gas and the sample gas at a dilution ratio. An instrument flow outlet provides a well-defined flow into the instrument from the mixture flow. A make-up gas inlet is arranged to provide make-up gas into the mixture flow at a controlled rate. Because the dilution gas flows at a controlled rate and the mixture flows at a controlled rate, changing the flow rate of the make-up gas causes a responsive change in the sample gas flow rate, thereby allowing continuous adjustment and control of the dilution ratio when desired.

  • Patent number: 7201080
Abstract: A hand-operated jointed control lever assembly that allows normal operation when moved in a first direction by an operator's grip, but disjoints without breaking when moved in other directions. The control lever naturally returns to its normal mode of operation when the abnormal stressing forces of an accident or fall are removed from the lever. The lever assembly has a lever body and a lever arm with respective mating fulcrum surfaces and a tensioning cable passing through the fulcrum surfaces, with a tensioning spring exerting force on the tensioning cable to draw the fulcrum surfaces together. The lever body has a rearwardly-extending lip in engagement with a forward edge of the lever arm, allowing side-to-side disjointed movement and outward disjointed movement opposite the first direction.

  • Patent number: 7201083
Abstract: A depth stop device (14) for use with a hand-held screw driving tool (2) includes an axial element (32) for driving a screw bit (34) and a sleeve element (20) having a longitudinal bore (30) in which the axial element (32) is at least partially received and an exit opening (36) extending sidewise from the longitudinal bore (30). The exit opening (36) is limited by a deflection surface (40) which is stretched over an intersection plane (SE) and has a geometrical center (M) that forms an origin of a spatial system of coordinates. The intersection plane (SE) forms with a tangential axis (T) of the spatial coordinate system that extends perpendicular to both the longitudinal (L) and radial (R) axis of the coordinate system, an acute angle (?).

  • Patent number: 7201084
Abstract: An adjustable wrench or spanner is disclosed. It comprises essentially an elongated handle element with a convex urging portion at one end, an upper jaw element with a concave urging portion, a lower jaw element with a protrusion portion and a ratchet assembly. The upper jaw element is movable with the assistance of the two engaging urging portions and the lower jaw element is adjustable with the assistance of the ratchet assembly. Two jaw portions are operable in tightening or loosening positions, without having to be disengaged from a hexagonal nut. When the jaw portions are opened in a loosening position, gripping edges of the jaw portions are allowed to shift from one width across flats to another width across flats.

  • Patent number: 7201085
Abstract: A hand tool includes a head and a pin with toothed outer periphery securely extends through two plates extending from the head. A handle has an insertion which includes an elongate slot and a plurality of teeth are defined in a first inner end of the elongate slot. The insertion is pivotably connected between the two plates of the head by the pin. A pushing member is located in the elongate slot and pushes the pin toward the first inner end of the elongate slot so that the toothed outer periphery of the pin is engaged with the teeth in the first inner end of the elongate slot to position the head. When pulling the head toward the handle, the toothed outer periphery of the pin is disengaged from the teeth in the first inner end of the elongate slot, and the head can be pivoted relative to the handle.

  • Patent number: 7201086
Abstract: An articulated wrench includes an elongate handle with a generally U-shaped depression at an end of the handle with an edge portion of the handle extending on either side of the depression, and a wrench head formed as a generally planar body with an aperture therein for engaging a fastener to be turned with the wrench, with the body of the wrench head nested into the depression in the handle with the edge portions of the handle on either side of the depression extending along a portion of the edge of the wrench head, and with the wrench head pivotally interconnected to the handle so as to allow rotation of the wrench head relative to the handle. The proportions of the wrench head are selected and the connection between wrench head and handle are selected so as to minimize the clearance required between a fastener and adjacent obstructions in a confined space for engagement of the fastener with the wrench.

  • Patent number: 7201091
Abstract: A miter saw design with a cutting arm pivot mechanism that allows the pivot point of the cutting arc to move in a predetermined path in the plane described by the rotating cutting surface. The “floating pivot” enables the tool to accommodate larger pieces of material than conventional miter saws with the same diameter cutting blade. This design also allows the saw to be more compact, lighter in weight, and less complex in comparison to the sliding miter saw. Thus, a miter saw can be provided that provides the cutting capacity of a larger saw with less weight, bulk, and cost than the current alternatives.
