Abstract: A modified approach to detecting the start frame delimiter (SFD) is disclosed. A receiving system scans a decoded but not yet de-scrambled received signal for a scrambled version of the SFD associated with the preamble format being used. Using this approach, it is not necessary to use any bits intended for use in synchronization to initialize a de-scrambler so as to be able to de-scramble the SFD portion of the preamble for detection. The bits that otherwise would have been dedicated to initializing the de-scrambler may then be used for synchronization, as intended. Detecting fewer than all bits comprising a start frame delimiter is described. Bits not used for SFD detection may be used for other purposes, such as synchronization.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronizing a node (200) within an ad-hoc communication system (100) is described herein. During operation all nodes periodically broadcast a synchronization beacon for other nodes to utilize for synchronization when a coordinating access point (node) is unavailable. A particular node's synchronization beacon will have an associated “tier” number that is incremented from the tier number of the beacon used to synchronize the particular node. In the absence of an access point, a node that joins the ad-hoc communication system will listen for synchronization beacons transmitted by other nodes. If synchronization beacons are heard, the node will synchronize with a beacon having a lowest tier. The node will then broadcast its own beacon having its tier number incremented from the lowest tier beacon heard.

Abstract: The invention concerns a device, method, and program for exposing one or more Web Services via a Web Service access protocol. Each Web Service comprises multiple Web Service actions for accessing the functionality of a device. The Web Service access protocol allows the exchange of information in a decentralized, distributed environment and encompasses multiple Web Service actions and multiple different communication protocols. Each listening endpoint exposes a grouping of Web Service actions, such that a first endpoint exposes a first grouping of actions and a second endpoint exposes a second grouping of actions. Each request handler handles requests at a respective endpoint, and each request handler is specifically configured to handle requests received at that endpoint. Because the invention can handle requests encompassing each message type differently, it can achieve improved performance when handling any message type.

Abstract: Ethernet provider backbone transport (PBT) paths are controlled utilizing Generalized Multi-protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling protocol. A path between edge nodes is identified by a combination of a VID and destination MAC address in a VID/MAC tuple populated in the forwarding tables of intermediary nodes. To establish the PBT path, a path calculation is performed from the originator node to the terminator node through the network. The originating node then sends a GMPLS label object with a suggested VID/MAC to identify the path to the terminator. The intermediary nodes or bridges forward the object to the terminating node. The terminating node then offers a VID/MAC tuple in a GMPLS label object in response. When the intermediary nodes forward the response from the terminating node to the originator, the appropriate forwarding labels are then installed in the forwarding tables of each node utilizing the associated VID/MAC tuples.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting a multicast/broadcast in a wireless communication system are provided. A multicast/broadcast method receives an Internet Protocol (IP) packet from an upper layer, determines whether a multicast destination address or a broadcast destination address is contained in the received IP packet, and transmits a packet in which a connection identifier (CID) for the multicast or the broadcast is selectively attached to the received IP packet according to a result of the determination. Also, the multicast/broadcast method may receive an IP packet from a mobile station, determine whether a first CID for the multicast or the broadcast is contained in the received IP packet, and transmit a packet in which the first CID of the received IP packet is selectively replaced with a second CID according to a result of the determination.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for recovering from a controlled failover of a BGP speaker is provided. A user sends, to a network element, a request to switch a designation of an active Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) speaker of the network element from a first BGP speaker to a second BGP speaker. After receiving the request, the network element pauses operation of a transport for BGP. Routing data, which describes a state of a first routing information base (RIB) maintained by the active BGP speaker, is transferred from the first BGP speaker to the second BGP speaker. Thereafter, the first BGP speaker may instruct the second BGP speaker to become the active BGP speaker. After the second BGP speaker becomes the active BGP speaker, the second BGP speaker resumes operation of the BGP transport.

Abstract: There have been provided in the present invention a method for establishing a dynamic tunnel of securely accessing to a private LAN and apparatus therefor. In the method of the present invention, a source tunnel server is disposed on a routing device through which a source host receives/transmits IP data packets, while a destination tunnel server is disposed on a routing device through which a destination host receives/transmits IP data packets. Subsequently, a secure communication tunnel is established automatically rather than manually between the source and destination tunnel servers, without requiring any IP address to be provided for the access servers with respect to corresponding private LANs. Moreover, the communication tunnel can be canceled upon completion of communications.

Abstract: An improved architecture for transmitting data from a plurality of sources to a plurality of destinations, wherein pieces of data directed to each destination are aggregated and transmitted periodically. In one embodiment, a plurality of ingress edge units and a plurality of egress edge units which are each coupled to an optical switching matrix. The ingress edge units are configured to parse incoming signals into components, each of which is destined for a particular one of the egress edge units. A switch is configured to store the data components destined for each egress edge unit in a corresponding buffer or set of buffers. Each of the buffers is read sequentially during a corresponding timeslot, with the data stored therein being transmitted to the designated egress edge unit. The data is thereby time-multiplexed for transmission to the egress edge units.

Abstract: Provided are apparatuses and methods in a digital broadcast transmission system for transmitting a notification from a transmitter to a receiver or subscriber station. The notification may inform the user or subscriber of information regarding upcoming events, programs or services, changes to existing events, programs or services, advertisements, emergency announcements, and the like. In one example, a parameter is included in the ESG fragment transmitted to a receiver for indicating that the service associated with the ESG fragment is a notification. In another example, the ESG fragment is an access fragment containing a type parameter for indicating that the notification associated with the access fragment is a component of the corresponding service.

Abstract: A method of scheduling wireless packet data traffic on a downlink packet data channel takes advantage of early decoding opportunities to decode the channel feedback reports before receipt of the mandated Lth repetition. The early-decoded channel feedback reports are promptly used in making scheduling decisions. Mobile stations are required to repeat transmissions of channel quality reports at least L times. The base station receives channel quality information report CFN from a first mobile station one or more times, but less than L times; and, prior to reception of the Lth repetition of CFN, successfully decodes CFN to form a first decoded report. Packet data transmissions on the downlink packet data traffic channel are scheduled based on CFN. A corresponding apparatus is also described.

Abstract: A queue selection method for controlling selection of many queues without increasing the circuit scale is provided. Queues are organized into groups, and each group is created as a tree structure with a plurality of steps, and a queue is selected by selecting a group of each step. By this, even if the number of queues is enormous, it is sufficient to provide registers for managing the presence of packets only for the number of groups selected in each step, and it becomes unnecessary to provide registers for all of the queues, so an increase of registers can be suppressed even if the number of queues increases. It is preferable that group selection in each step is performed in parallel independently from pipeline processing so as to maintain high-speed operation.
