Patent number: 7300538Abstract: Liquid organic material is controllably delivered to a receptacle located in the center of a heated surface capable of horizontally rotating about its central axis. As the heated surface rotates, material deposited within the central receptacle is forced outwardly and across the rotating surface. As the material moves radially, it evaporates into a vapor which is then transported to one or more nozzles. From the nozzles, the vapor is applied to a substrate and condensed. The spinning disk evaporator enables the evaporation of a wider variety of organic liquids greater reliability in continuous operation, a decrease in maintenance, and a larger and more constant material flow rate.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2005Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Charles Daniel Lemme, Marc G. Patent number: 7300546Abstract: A cellulose fiber having extended biostability and the method of its manufacture are described. While prior treatments of cellulose with biotoxic metal compounds have given improved resistance to decay, these treatments have not been entirely satisfactory where the fiber had to be refined before use. Refining energy was very high and fiber length loss was substantial. Treatment of cellulose fiber with dideyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) or bromide (DDAB), these materials in combination with low levels of copper, or low levels of copper alone, has given a product with very good biostability without a major increase in refining energy or loss of fiber length. The treated fiber is particularly advantageous as a reinforcing component for cement board products.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2005Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Weyerhaeuser CompanyInventors: Richard A. Patent number: 7300556Abstract: A method of physical vapor deposition (PVD) is disclosed in which xenon is used as the operating gas in the vacuum chamber in the deposition of an adhesion layer, preferably silicon, which allows the adhesion layer to be ultra-thin with improved durability over prior art films. The use of argon as is typical in the prior art results in argon atoms being incorporated into the ultra-thin silicon film with deleterious results. In films that are only several angstroms thick, the contamination of the film with argon or other elements can yield a film with reduced adhesion performance and in some cases noble atoms such as argon can escape the film leaving voids or pinholes. The use of the larger and heavier xenon atoms in the vacuum chamber produces a substantially purer film with reduced risk of voids and pinholes.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2003Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Cherngye Hwang, Eun Row, Ning Shi, Eric (Yongjian) Sun
