  • Patent number: 7344537
Abstract: An anterior spinal fixation system comprises a plurality of mounting constructs to hold one or more spinal rods or spinal plate-type braces. Each mounting construct includes a bottom plate and a top plate assembly. The bottom plate is attached to the vertebral body with a plurality of anchors, one or more of which may be polyaxial. In one embodiment, the top plate assembly engages the bottom plate through a quick-connect feature that provides simple and secure locking as well as tactile feedback. When the top plate assembly is engaged with the bottom plate, it compresses the rods or braces against the head of the screws, locking the angle of any polyaxial bone screws. In another embodiment, the top plate assembly threadably engages the bottom plate. For additional strength and rigidity, cross-connectors may be used between each pair of mounting constructs when two or more spinal rods are used.

  • Patent number: 7344548
Abstract: A surgical instrument and method are disclosed for enhancing the overall performance of arterial occludes, by allowing the repetitive obstruction of blood flow to a targeted organ or tissue (e.g., heart muscle, brain, kidney, gastrointestinal tissue, leg muscles, arm muscles, other skeletal muscles, or tumors), while reducing the potential for side effects such as gangrene or infarction and for post-implantation movement of the occlude during ischemia. The micro-pneumatic snare allows the repeated occlusion (i.e., the iterated obstruction or closure of a passageway or vessel) of targeted vessels to deprive a selected organ or tissue of blood and oxygen profusion, while the patient may, in general, remain conscious. The micro-pneumatic snare also allows for the stimulation of functional response adjustments in targeted tissues and organs, such as angiogenesis and collateral vessel growth in response to repetitive per fusion obstruction.

  • Patent number: 7344569
Abstract: A selector valve capable of maintaining a closed position for a while even if an operating force to a valve element (80) is eliminated when the selector valve (10) is switched from a closed position (braking state) to an open position. The valve element (80) of the selector valve (10) receives an operating force from the outside and a returning force in the opposite direction of the operating force by a valve spring (90). Accordingly, the valve element (80) opens and closes the valve by making the first end (801) of the valve element (80) seat on/unseat from a valve seat (48) on the housing (20) side according to the presence or absence of the operating force. A first port (31) and a second port (32) on both sides of the valve seat (48) are connected or cut off from each other by the opening and closing. The valve element (80) is formed in a stepped structure, and receives a force based on a difference in pressure receiving area by the stepped structure which results from the pressure of hydraulic fluid.

Abstract: An additive impregnated abrasive article and method for fabricating the same is provided. The method includes providing an abrasive article having a pore structure, dissolving an additive in a supercritical fluid, and exposing the abrasive article to the additive-laden supercritical fluid, so that the fluid disperses through the pore structure. The supercritical fluid is then brought to below its critical point for a period of time sufficient to dissociate the additive from the fluid, so that the additive is deposited within the pore structure of the abrasive article.
