Abstract: A bypass turbofan gas turbine engine (10) is started by means of electric starter motor (26) mounted directly about a downstream end or upstream of the low pressure spool (12) of the engine. This causes air to be driven by a fan (16) through a bypass duct (32) around the engine casing (28). Closures (34) close to substantially seal an outlet of the bypass duct (32), and the air is directed into a combustion chamber (24) of the engine and through the turbines (22,23), causing the high pressure spool (14) to pick up speed for starting.

Abstract: A turbine rotor for a turbine engine includes multiple rotor disks having rotor blades mounted about the circumference of each of the rotor disks. A fluid seal extends about the circumference of each rotor disk in close proximity to a stationary component of the rotor to separate the space between the rotor blades and a stationary component into separate cavities. The fluid seal includes a seal land on the rotor disk and a brush seal extending from the stationary component. A plurality of disk land segments and a plurality of blade land segments form the seal land. The disk seal segments are located on the rotor disk between the rotor blades. The blade land segments are located on the rotor blades. After the rotor blades are assembled, the blade land segments and the disk land segments fit together to form a segmented ring-like seal land around the circumference of the rotor disk.

  • Publication number: 20080095617
Abstract: Due to increasing environmental requirements, oil must be prevented from leaking from a turbine rotor disk and reaching the medium circulating around the turbine. In Kaplan turbines comprising a hydraulic mechanism (6) for actuating the rotor disk blades (3), hydraulic liquid leaks from the servomotor (5) and is collected in the inner chamber of the rotor disk hub (2). The invention relates to a rotor disk (1) by which means said leakage liquid can be reliably and easily collected and guided out of the rotor disk (1). A collecting basin (8) is arranged-around the free end of the piston rod (7). The actuating movement of the servomotor (5) reduces and enlarges the pump volume (17), and hydraulic liquid is thus guided from the collecting basin (8) into the delivery pipe (11).

The increased area variation at the location of the shock results in the shock position becoming less sensitive to small geometric imperfections. The reduced shock sensitivity reduces the variation in aerodynamic load and hence reduces the untwist variation with respect to small geometric imperfections. In one embodiment, a pump apparatus includes a pump housing defining a pumping chamber. The housing has a spindle extending into the pumping chamber. A spindle magnet assembly includes first and second magnets disposed within the spindle. The first and second magnets are arranged proximate each other with their respective magnetic vectors opposing each other. The lack of mechanical contact bearings enables longer life pump operation and less damage to working fluids such as blood.

Abstract: The invention relates to a roudong volume variation method for fluid machinery and its mechanisms and applications, which is suitable to be used in internal combustion engine, pump, compressor, motor, transmission, refrigeration, metering, etc. In the roudong volume variation method, a roudong volume variation motion can be produced by the combination of a revolution of a roudong rotor in a roudong cavity and a rotation of the same in an inverse direction, causing speed, moment of momentum and loss to be reduced by 90%˜99% in comparison with a rotor with the same ratio. A roudong internal combustion engine has an efficiency increase of 25% and is free from lubrication. A roudong pump has an efficiency as high as 90%. Roudong isothermal compression can reduce 39%˜67% work, while roudong refrigeration can reduce 50% work. Roudong general fluid machinery has the functions of pump and motor, and also has such functions as metering, control, etc.

Abstract: Clutch components for automotive use usually include a pair of clutch members with operative faces. In particular, planar one way clutches include a pair of clutch members whose operative faces are enclosed spaced opposition, with each clutch face including a plurality of recessed defining respective load bearing shoulders. A plurality of struts are disposed between the coupling face of the members, and such struts are moveable between the coupling position and non coupling position. A preferable method of manufacturing such clutch components includes powder metal operations comprising die compacting a metal powder into a metal blank, sintering the metal blank to form a sintered metal blank, and cooling the sintered metal blank to form a cooled metal blank. The preferred metallic structure of the cooled metal blank is 50-80% martensite and 20-50% bainite and fine pearlite. The application is especially useful for clutches used as backing plates in clutch brake applications.

Formation of pearlite is suppressed by alloy modification; on-line processing; off-line processing; or combinations of these techniques which control the microstructure and hardness levels. The workpiece is broached into the form of a powertrain component such as, for example, a gear or race which can be surface hardened after broaching by one of carburizing, nitriding, or induction hardening depending upon the carbon content of the steel. Disclosed are steel compositions and processing methods for making the steel, the broachable workpiece and the broached and surface hardened powertrain article.
