Publication number: 20080134996Abstract: An engine-driven work machine is provided in which an engine/work machine unit (5) is housed in a box (30) and a cooling fan (15) for generating a flow of cooling air from an air inlet (39) to an air outlet (40) via the surroundings of the engine/work machine unit (5) is disposed within the box (30), wherein a gas/liquid separation chamber (32) for restricting the flow of cooling air is provided between the air inlet (39) and the engine/work machine unit (5), and the gas/liquid separation chamber (32) is provided with a first wall face (32a1) for changing upward flow of cooling air into a lateral direction after it has collided with the first wall face (32a1) and a second wall face (32a2) for changing the lateral direction of flow into an obliquely downward direction. This enables mist contained in cooling air taken into the box to be separated and removed effectively before the cooling air reaches the surroundings of the engine/generator unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2006Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: HONDA R&D CO., LTD.Inventors: Taiyo Onodera, Hitoshi Yuki

Publication number: 20080134997Abstract: An engine and a generator driven by the engine are resiliently supported on a frame. A duct member is integrally attached to the engine and the generator to define a continuous cooling-air passage between the duct member and outer peripheral surfaces of the engine and the generator. A cooling fan is disposed on an inlet side of the cooling-air passage. A silencing plate is integrally attached to the duct member and faces an inlet of the cooling-air passage with a ventilation gap defined therebetween. The silencing plate has an area opposing the inlet that is larger than an opening area of the inlet.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventors: Takashi Ito, Taiyo Onodera

Publication number: 20080134998Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine has a circular inner chamber, which houses a plurality of cylinders with reciprocating pistons that move in a radial direction towards and away from the center of the inner chamber. A flywheel with distinct vanes or portions is positioned for rotation about a central axis of the inner chamber. A gear assembly operationally connected to the reciprocating pistons forces the flywheel to rotate and impart torque to a central shaft extending though the inner chamber.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2008Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventor: John Wesley Nicholson

Publication number: 20080134999Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising at least two cylinders, at each of which at least one inlet for at least one combustion ingredient is provided. The engine comprises communication means, adapted to provide communication between at least a first of the cylinders, at which a first piston is provided, and a second of the cylinders, at which a second piston is provided, during at least a part of an engine operation period starting during a movement of the first piston towards a bottom dead center (BDC) position at a work stroke of the first cylinder and ending during a movement of the first piston away from the bottom dead center (BDC) position, during which engine operation period the second piston moves towards a bottom dead center (BDC) position and/or away from the bottom dead center (BDC) position.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Goran Almkvist, Hans Strom

Publication number: 20080135000Abstract: A poppet valve operating system for an internal combustion engine includes poppet valves which are driven by rocker arms rotationally mounted to a rocker shaft. Each of the rocker arms is maintained in axial alignment upon the rocker shaft by a separate, resiliently biased telescoping pin housed in the rocker arm body. The rocker arm pins extend into indexing reliefs formed in the outer cylindrical surface of the rocker shaft.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2006Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Jon Jeffries, Todd Brewer

Publication number: 20080135001Abstract: An exhaust valve arrangement for use in a combustion chamber of a compression ignition internal combustion engine, includes a piston which is movable outwardly from the combustion chamber in response to pressure generated within the combustion chamber as a result of combustion, and an outer sleeve within which the piston is movable. The outer sleeve is an exhaust valve which is actuable between open and closed positions to open and close, respectively, an exhaust passage from the combustion chamber. The exhaust valve arrangement further includes a pump chamber for receiving fluid, and a pumping plunger coupled to the piston and movable with the piston so as to pressurise fluid (e.g. fuel) within the pump chamber as the piston is urged outwardly from the combustion chamber. The pressure within the pump chamber is proportional to cylinder pressure and is sensed by a sensor which provides an output signal to an Engine Control Unit (ECU 16).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2006Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventor: Philip J.
