Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a convenient and aesthetically pleasing way to label a wide variety of objects. The invention includes both an adhesive image transfer sheet assembly and a method for labeling a disc using standard computer equipment typically found in a home or office, such as an ink jet printer. One embodiment of the invention relates to an adhesive image transfer sheet assembly having a backing sheet that is coated with an ink-receptive coating. The coating is activatable to a tacky state by the application of light pressure or heat, and/or by wetting the coating with ink jet ink. The assembly may also be pre-cut to a particular shape, so as to correspond to the shape of a disc, for instance. An other embodiment of the invention relates to a method of labeling an object using the adhesive image transfer sheet assembly. After receiving printing, the ink-receptive coating is placed against the upper surface of the disc, and the user lighty rubs the backing sheet.

Abstract: A liquid material containing a silicone material or organosilica is applied to a roughly polished surface of a polycrystalline silicon substrate to form a smooth thin film covering steps and grain boundary portions; thereafter, the thin film is subjected to a heat treatment at an appropriate temperature to allow the organic components thereof to evaporate off, thereby forming an SiO2 film; and the resulting SiO2 film is then subjected to precision polishing, such as a CMP process, to impart the substrate with a high planarity. This method makes it possible to give a planar and smooth surface with no effect reflecting differences in crystal orientation among polycrystalline grains or the presence of grain boundaries. The Si substrate for magnetic recording media thus obtained exhibits a sufficient impact resistance and an excellent surface planarity.

The basic concept uses an array of hollow rectangular segments arranged in a sheet, to form the core, with sandwich face skins on top and bottom. The hollow core segments have wall thicknesses from about 0.015 to 0.250 in. Once the blow molded core (BMC) segments and skins are bonded together, using resin infusion (or other molding techniques) the sides of the segments form webs which act as though they were continuous; like a giant rectangular honeycomb. Sandwich structure thicknesses of 4 to 18 in. have been demonstrated.

Abstract: A universal barrier system includes universal barrier components that may be assembled together to shield floors and walls from moisture and provide a thermal break in an operational area of the universal barrier component. A lap zone of the universal barrier component may allow universal barrier components to be assembled and installed to protect floors, walls, ceilings, footings and the like from moisture and heat gain or loss by minimizing the need for tapes and other joining methods. The universal barrier system may also act as a sound deadening material. The operational area and lap zone of the universal barrier component may be disposed on a vapor block layer to provide some rigidity. The operational area of the universal barrier component may include a thermal break disposed upon the vapor block layer. The thermal break may include an outer protective layer. In addition, universal barrier tape and universal barrier edging may be provided to couple adjoining universal barrier components.

Abstract: An infrared ray reflection pattern-printed transparent sheet is provided which can be applied to a data input system of a type of handwriting directly on a screen of a display device and provides a coordinate detect means and which is lightweight, low in a cost, readily increased in an area, possible in mass production and excellent in a read performance. It is an infrared ray reflection pattern-printed transparent sheet in which infrared ray reflective transparent patterns are printed on a surface of a transparent substrate and which is disposed oppositely to a front face of a display device. A cross section obtained by cutting the infrared ray reflective transparent patterns printed on the above transparent substrate in a face orthogonal to the above transparent substrate is formed so that it assumes a multilayer structure comprising a fixed repeating cycle when observed under a scanning electron microscope.
