Publication number: 20080236091Abstract: A tapered load plate transfers loads across a joint between adjacent concrete floor slabs. The top and bottom surfaces may taper from approximately 4 inches wide to a narrow substantially pointed end over a length of approximately 12 inches. The tapered load plate accommodates differential shrinkage of cast-in-place concrete slabs. When adjacent slabs move away from each other, the narrow end of the tapered load plate moves out of the void that it created in the slab thus allowing the slabs to move relative to one another in a direction parallel to the joint. Tapered load plates may be assembled into a load-plate basket with the direction of the taper alternating from one tapered load plate to the next to account for off-center saw cuts. A tapered load plate and an end cap may be used to provide load transfer across an expansion joint.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 9, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Inventors: Russell Boxall, Nigel K. Publication number: 20080236092Abstract: A method of manufacturing terrazzo tiles and tiles manufactured in accordance with the method is described. A resin, curing agent, filler, and pigment are poured into a mold. Stone chips are then poured into the mold to settle with the majority at the bottom of the mold. Thereafter, curing occurs to result in rough tiles which are ground and then polished with the upper surface being the resulting tile surface at which the majority of the stones settle. The tiles are assembled onto a floor with grout lines resulting from spacing of the tiles, one from another. Grout is then poured in and skived, and the floor polished to result in a sealed monolithic surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Inventor: John Sich

Publication number: 20080236097Abstract: A noise-reducing substrate for use in a flooring system, the flooring system having a subfloor and a decorative upper layer. The substrate comprises a series of edge butted panels, each of which has a bottom surface, a top surface and side surfaces. Each panel's top surface and oppositely facing bottom surface are parallel to each other and are spaced apart by the thickness of the substrate. Publication number: 20080236132Abstract: Systems and method for generating electricity using heat from a SCWO reaction. The system may comprise a pump that pumps the mixture undergoing the SCWO reaction to a pressure above the critical pressure point for the mixture. The pressurized mixture is heated, by a heating system, above the critical temperature point for the mixture. The SCWO reaction occurs in a reaction chamber. The reaction chamber is in thermal communication with a vessel that holds water such that the heat from the mixture heats the water into steam. The steam powers a steam turbine, which is connected to an electrical generator to thereby generate electricity.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2007Publication date: October 2, 2008Inventor: Christopher J. Publication number: 20080236134Abstract: A temperature control system and method for use with an exhaust flow simulation system. A typical exhaust flow simulator is a burner-based system, in which exhaust from a combustive burner is exhausted through an exhaust line. A temperature control section divides the exhaust from the burner line into two paths: a cool path and an uncooled (hot) path. The cool path uses a heat exchanger to cool the exhaust. The cool path also has a control valve that controls the relative portions of hot and cool exhaust, which are re-mixed downstream the valve into an exhaust line. Various embodiments have different configurations for the two paths.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2007Publication date: October 2, 2008Inventors: Ernest M. Krueger, Cynthia Chaffin Webb, Jason T. Publication number: 20080236136Abstract: A linkage system includes a pivot bias assembly at each pivot which removes internal clearances and resultant vibratory wear. The pivot bias assembly includes a cavity which defines an axis transverse to the pivot axis. A spring biased piston is located therein to provide a radial load toward the rotation pivot to close radial clearances. The spring loaded piston reduces all the radial internal clearances to zero to reduce vibratory wear created by engine vibratory inputs. An assembly flat is positioned such that the component is assembled in a non-operating angular position such that the spring biased piston is under minimal or no load then the component is rotated into operating position so as to preload the spring biased piston.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2007Publication date: October 2, 2008Inventor: Constantino V. Publication number: 20080236137Abstract: The present invention relates to a structural or non-structural turbojet engine fan casing connecting arm (8B) that also acts as a flow straightener downstream of the fan rotor (3). Its distinctive feature is that it is constructed in such a way as to form an acoustic attenuator. In particular, it comprises a closed cavity and perforations (83) on one of the faces (8B in, 8Bex) so as to form a Helmholtz resonator. The arm forms part of the intermediate casing (8).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: SNECMAInventors: Jacques Michel Albert JULLIARD, Olivier Michael MOLINARI, Patrick Charles Georges MOREL, Georges Jean Xavier RIOU

Publication number: 20080236138Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for propelling an aircraft comprising a jet engine and an outlet nozzle arranged downstream of the jet engine. The jet engine is of a type which generates an internal core flow and an external fan flow. A part of the outlet nozzle has an internal surface which defines a gas duct for the fan flow. The aforementioned part of the outlet nozzle includes a wall structure that is arranged at a distance from the internal surface such that it separates the gas duct for the fan flow from an internal gas duct for the core flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2005Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: VOLVO AERO CORPORATIONInventor: Bernhard Gustafsson
