Abstract: Single-camera image processing methods are disclosed for 3D navigation within ordinary moving video. Along with color and brightness, XYZ coordinates can be defined for every pixel. The resulting geometric models can be used to obtain measurements from digital images, as an alternative to on-site surveying and equipment such as laser range-finders. Motion parallax is used to separate foreground objects from the background. This provides a convenient method for placing video elements within different backgrounds, for product placement, and for merging video elements with computer-aided design (CAD) models and point clouds from other sources. If home users can save video fly-throughs or specific 3D elements from video, this method provides an opportunity for proactive, branded media sharing. When this image processing is used with a videoconferencing camera, the user's movements can automatically control the viewpoint, creating 3D hologram effects on ordinary televisions and computer screens.

In one embodiment, the method includes the separation of coordinates of a normal vector of each frustum plane of a frustum view into positive normal coordinates and negative normal coordinates. In one embodiment, the separation of the coordinates of each normal vector of the frustum planes enables implicit selection of the coordinates of a negative vertex (N-vertex) of an axis-aligned bounded box (AABB). Once implicitly selected, it is determined whether the N-vertex of the AABB is outside at least one frustum plane. In one embodiment, a determination that the N-vertex of the AABB is outside at least one of the frustum planes provides a trivial reject of objects enclosed by the AABB that are therefore is excluded from the rendering process. Abstract: Early Z scoreboard tracking systems and methods in accordance with the present invention are described. Multiple pixels are received and a pixel depth raster operation is performed on the pixels. The pixel depth raster operation comprises discarding a pixel that is occluded. In one exemplary implementation, the depth raster operation is done at a faster rate than a color raster operation. Pixels that pass the depth raster operation are checked for screen coincidence. Pixels with screen coincidence are stalled and pixels without screen coincidence are forwarded to lower stages of the pipeline. The lower stages of the pipeline are programmable and pixel flight time can vary (e.g., can include multiple passes through the lower stages). Execution through the lower stages is directed by a program sequencer which also directs notification to the pixel flight tracking when a pixel is done processing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for texture mapping a surface. The method is applicable to texture mapping either a two-dimensional representation (image) of a three-dimensional surface as well as a three-dimensional computer model of a three-dimensional surface, such as a triangular wire mesh model. In one embodiment, the texture mapping process involves user-specification of a plurality of constraints, including texture flow constraints, texture discontinuities, and surface underfolds. A triangular wire mesh model of the surface to be textured is generated. The mesh allows a continuous texture distribution to be specified as a linear interpolation of texture values at the triangular vertices. User-specified constraints are preserved as edges within the triangular mesh. The triangular mesh is used to compute a weighted energy functional expressed in terms of nodal texture values.

The regular mesh generating portion assumes a shaped parallelpiped enclosing the shape to be meshed. The parallelpiped is divided in a meshed manner by the hexahedral element whose distance between the nodes has the substantially same density as the triangular mesh on the surface. The resulting regular mesh located inside the triangular mesh on the surface of geometry model is divided into a tetrahedral meshed manner. The shell meshing area extracting portion extracts a shell-like space between the inner tetrahedral mesh and the triangular mesh on the surface of geometry model. Abstract: A system and program product for re-meshing of a three-dimensional (3D) input model using progressive implicit approximating levels are provided. Specifically, an initial quadrilateral mesh for a 3D input model is provided. Then, an implicit approximating field is built for a first approximating level (L) of the 3D input model using an implicit surface modeling technique. An iso-contour of the implicit approximating field is then extracted, and the quadrilateral mesh is fit to the first approximating level (L). The fit between the quadrilateral mesh and the first approximating level (L) is then estimated, and it is determined whether the fit meets a predetermined quality criterion. If not, the quadrilateral mesh is refined using one or more of a sequence of topological operations are performed to improve the fit. The process is then iteratively repeated for subsequent approximation levels until one of the subsequent approximation levels is fit to the 3D input model.

Abstract: There is described a method for generating a 2-D image of a 3-D object represented by a volume data set comprising a multiplicity of data points each having an opacity value. A plurality of notional rays are cast through the 3-D object and for each ray, a ray path is divided into a plurality of base sampling intervals defined by data points on the path. If it is determined that a difference in opacity values across a base sampling interval can become greater than a pre-determined value, successively smaller sampling regions are generated within the base sampling interval until it is determined that a difference in opacity values across each generated smaller sampling interval in the base interval is less than the pre-determined threshold. Abstract: A display system and method created by adjusting the properties of one or more displays to obtain coarse control over display behavior, by using sensors to optimize display parameters and meet a quality target. The display may construct a display map by selectively driving the display and sensing the optical image created. The system reports on its status, and is able to predict when the system will no longer meet a quality target. The system and method may optimize a display system and keep it optimized over time. Operators of the display who require a minimum level of quality for the display system can be ensured that the display meets those requirements. And, they can be warned in advance as to when system maintenance can be necessary, when quality falls below targeted goals system and method provides for sending out methods of the quality of the system.

Abstract: In a switch provided in a driver device and connected to a driver, a terminal and a lever is separated from each other (in the separated state) when a predetermined electric potential is not applied to a gate electrode. When a predetermined electric potential is applied to the gate electrode, the lever of the corresponding switch is deformed by electrostatic force between the gate electrode and the lever and comes into contact with the terminal, and thus the terminals are connected with the lever (in the contact state). A plurality of drivers are connected to the terminals of two or more of switches, respectively, and, when a driving potential is outputted from a driver, the driving potential is applied to a surface individual electrode connected to the switch in the contact state.

For this purpose, one or more scans used to apply the specific ink are determined on the basis of applying amount information for the specific ink and the non-specific ink. For example, the one or more scans used to apply the specific ink are determined such that the ratio of specific ink applied by the last half of plural scans is greater for a unit pixel whose application ratio of non-specific ink to specific ink is greater than a predetermined ratio than for a unit pixel whose application ratio of non-specific ink to the specific ink is less than the predetermined ratio.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an ink jet printing method and ink jet printing apparatus capable of outputting a smooth monochrome photograph with indistinctive beading and conveying unevenness even in monochrome black mode for printing an image by using achromatic color inks. For this object, if it is determined that printing is carried out in the monochrome black mode, different mask patterns, such as mutually-exclusive mask patterns or mask patterns having a logical product result that shows a state where low-frequency components are less than high-frequency components, are set for two or more kinds of achromatic color inks. Use of such mask patterns suppresses the generation of grains of achromatic color inks, increases dispersibility of the grains, and also makes positions where conveying unevenness appear indistinctive.

Abstract: The conventional print-controlling apparatus performs printing with CMY inks and additional inks having a lower lightness than CMY inks, which are mixed in a specific ratio when ejected from the print head, so that colors in the entire range from low to high lightness are expressed. Unfortunately, chromatic color inks differing in hue from CMY inks have a low lightness or a high density, and this leads to poor granularity in the region of high lightness. This disadvantage is eliminated if color conversion is accomplished by using the granularity improvement LUT 15c that limits the deposition of RV inks. In this way it is possible to limit the ejection of RV inks in the region of high lightness and to improve the ink granularity in the region of high lightness.
