  • Patent number: 7438796
Abstract: A sensor for measurement of free chlorine and of total chlorine in aqueous solution including a working electrode having a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) formed on the surface thereof, producing a barrier which reduces the generation of background currents when electrical potentials are applied to the electrode, and blocks the reduction or oxidation of interfering species in the solution, is described. Such SAMs have also been found to block the efficient reduction of chlorine as well. However, N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DPD) has been found to effectively transport electrons across the SAM; that is, an oxidized form of DPD produced by a reaction with chlorine is capable of penetrating the SAM such that the reduction of the oxidized DPD species can occur. The generated reduction current is correlated with the concentration of chlorine in solution. Total chlorine may be determined by the addition of an iodide salt.

  • Patent number: 7438803
Abstract: A garnet settling/filtration system for use with a plurality of machine tools such as a water jet cutting machine is described. The garnet settling/filtration system comprises a settling tank, which utilizes a removable, disposable settling weir, which is received therein. The settling weir drops into the settling tank and provides an over-under flow system through which the garnet slurry must travel. As the flow of the slurry travels over and under the incorporated series of baffles, the garnet particulate settles out on the bottom of the liner. Once the liner has reached its maximum holding capacity, a series of incorporated, reinforced removal loops located near the top of the liner allow for the easy and quick removal of the liner and the settled-out particulate from the settling tank. The liner can then be discarded and a new one replaced in a matter of minutes, thereby reducing downtime of the machine.

  • Patent number: 7438805
Abstract: The pH value of excess sludge taken out from a biological oxidation tank (2) is adjusted to 8 to 14, and the pH-adjusted sludge is injected into a solubilizing device (3). The sludge taken out from the solubilizing device (3) is heated to 110° C. to 350° C. at a pressure higher than saturated steam pressure to solubilize the sludge to a state readily degradable by microorganisms. The solubilized sludge is returned to a biological oxidizing tank (2), and the pH value of the sludge in the biological oxidizing tank (2) to 5 to 9. The use of the above method of treating excess sludge and an apparatus therefore enables substantially reducing the volume of excess sludge with economic advantage.

In operation, electrons are deflected from the wafer by the Lorentz force, the wafer acquires a positive charge, and ions are deflected by electrostatic repulsion. Neutral species are allowed through the magnetic field, and they collide with the wafer. Neutral species generally provide more isotropic and material-selective etching than charged particles, so the present magnetic field tends to increase etch isotropy and material selectivity. Also, the magnetic field can protect the wafer from seasoning processes designed to clean unwanted films from the chamber surface as seasoning processes typically rely on etching by charged particles.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an imprint method for manufacturing micro capacitive ultrasonic transducer, which uses a mold with a particularly patterned surface to imprint into a flexible material thus forming the oscillation cavities of the ultrasonic transducer. Such imprint method not only realizes the volume manufacturing and reduces the cost, but also can precisely control the geometrical size of the oscillation cavities and thus shorten the distance between the upper and the lower electrodes to the micro/nano level, largely improving the sensitivity of the transducer. Moreover, the present invention further changes the procedure for manufacturing micro capacitive ultrasonic transducer of the prior art, which can both save the process steps and overcome the disadvantages in the prior art.

Abstract: To make high quality long-range periodic nanostructures in a transparent or semi-transparent substrate, the transparent or semi-transparent substrate is scanned with a linearly polarized laser beam generated by a femtosecond laser and exceeding a predetermined energy/pulse threshold along a scanning path. Sub-diffraction limit structures are formed as periodic planes of modified material in the transparent or semi-transparent substrate extending along the scanning path. The modified material can then be chemically etched to form cavities.

  • Patent number: 7438828
Abstract: A product and apparatus for cleaning water or industrial and sewage waste water includes a mixture of diatomite that is heated and stirred to impart an enhanced negative electrical charge to the diatomite. A mixture of approximately 50% aluminium chloride (AlCl3) by volume is blended to provide a powder mixture for use as a flocculant in the system. According to a modification, the charged diatomite is instead blended with a mixture of approximately 50% ferric chloride (FeCl3) by volume and is stored in liquid form for later use as a flocculant in the system. From one to five percent, by volume, of polyacrylamide is preferably added to the mixture for use in sewage waste water treatment applications. An efficient system for reacting either the mixture or separately adding the diatomite and the metallic chloride to the water is described.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an anisotropic conductive adhesive comprising an anisotropic conductive adhesive combined with a crystalline polymer to realize anisotropic conductivity and PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) characteristics at the same time. The anisotropic conductive adhesive having PTC characteristics according to the present invention comprises an insulating adhesive component and a plurality of conductive particles dispersed in adhesive component, in which the insulating adhesive component comprises a crystalline polymer. Since the anisotropic conductive adhesive according to the present invention includes a crystalline polymer, when temperature rises and the volume expands, electrical resistance is rapidly increased, whereby current flow is intercepted resulting in blocking current, providing PTC characteristics acting as a switch. Thus, it shows circuit protection function as well.
