  • Patent number: 7535820
Abstract: An OFDM signal receiver reduces frequency response estimation error, and reduces the circuit scale needed for a hardware implementation and the number of operations performed in a software implementation. A first Fourier transform circuit converts an OFDM signal to the frequency domain by a Fourier transform. A first divider divides the pilot signal contained in the frequency domain OFDM signal by a specified pilot signal. A zero insertion means then inserts zero signals in the first divider output. A window function multiplying means multiplies the zero insertion means output by a window function, and an inverse Fourier transform means applies an inverse Fourier transform to the multiplier output. A coring means then cores the inverse Fourier transform output, and truncation means truncates the coring means output at a specified data length. A second Fourier transform circuit applies another Fourier transform to the truncated result.

  • Patent number: 7535823
Abstract: The present invention provides an interworking peripheral module, which acts as a liaison between a circuit-switched telephone switch and a packet network. The interworking peripheral module includes a TDM module, such as a common equipment module, which cooperates with the telephony switch and two TDM-packet modules, which convert outgoing TDM traffic to packets and incoming packets to TDM traffic. The TDM-packet modules act in a redundant fashion, wherein one of the TDM-packet modules is active while the other TDM-packet module is inactive. The active TDM-packet module will convert the outgoing TDM traffic to packets and route the outgoing packets to a packet network via one or more routers. The inactive TDM-packet module will also convert the TDM traffic to packets in an identical fashion to the active TDM-packet module, but will drop the outgoing packets before they are routed to the packet network.

  • Patent number: 7535825
Abstract: Link failure messages are sent through a network to accelerate convergence of routing information after a network fault. The link failure messages reduce the oscillations in routing information stored by routers, which otherwise can cause significant problems, including intermittent loss of network connectivity as well as increased packet loss and latency. For example, the link failure messages reduce the time that a network using a path vector routing protocol, such as the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), takes to converge to a stable state. More particularly, upon detecting a network fault, a router generates link failure information to identify the specific link that has failed. In some types of systems, the router communicates the link failure information to neighboring routers as well as a conventional update message withdrawing any unavailable routes. Once other routers receive the link failure information, the routers do not attempt to use routes that include the failed link.

  • Patent number: 7535828
Abstract: A fast reroute (FRR) technique is implemented at the edge of a computer network. If an edge device detects a node or link failure that prevents it from communicating with a neighboring routing domain, the edge device reroutes at least some data packets addressed to that domain to a backup edge device which, in turn, forwards the packets to the neighboring domain. The backup edge device is not permitted to reroute the packets a second time. According to the inventive technique, the edge device first identifies a group one or more possible backup edge devices and then selects at least one preferred backup edge device from the group. The edge device makes its selection based on the values of one or more metrics associated with the possible backup edge devices. The metrics are input to a novel selection algorithm that selects the preferred backup edge device(s) using a hierarchical selection process or a weighted-metric selection process, or some combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 7535838
Abstract: A method for ascertaining the use of resources on a network having multiple paths across which data can pass. Each alternative path across the network is provided with a different address or port at a server or anchor point, such that, when a data packet is sent to a particular address it will travel across a certain path. As each path is associated with its own individual port or address a server can deduce from the port or address at which a data packet arrives which path it has traversed. The server can then use its knowledge of network topology and bandwidth availability to make policy enforcement decisions. These decisions may include whether to allow the call to proceed if the initial packet received is a call set up packet or, alternatively, a decision as to which path should be used for all transmissions from the terminal during the session.

  • Patent number: 7535841
Abstract: Burst-switching nodes using a common-memory or a time shared space switch and employing flow-rate control are disclosed. Within a switching node, data bursts are segmented into data segments of a fixed size with some segments containing information bits as well as null bits. A switching node handles data streams allocated different flow rates and, for any data stream, the internal flow rate through the switching node can be higher than the external flow rate due to null padding of segmented data. The switching node is provided with a sufficient internal capacity expansion in order to offset the effect of null padding. A controller of the switching node is provided with a flow-rate-regulation apparatus to enable scheduling the transfer of data segments across the switching node in a manner that guarantees adherence to the allocated information flow rates.

  • Patent number: 7535842
Abstract: Improved systems and methods for processing data traveling in a network in an efficient manner are provided. In many network implementations input/output ports have one or a small number of bandwidths. These ports sometimes lead to higher bandwidth ports than the source or destination needs. A method and system are provided wherein some of the input and output ports are known to be underutilized. Only a relatively small number of output ports require a complicated merge scheduler that provides configurable data transmission “fairness” between input ports. Accordingly, a method and system are provided wherein preprocessing of input data reduces the cost of the merge circuits required at the outputs.

  • Patent number: 7535843
Abstract: A method for granular policing includes a novel policing architecture which evaluates an arriving cell's conformance by comparing the actual arrival characteristic against a family or a set of expected arrival curves. In embodiments of the present invention, expected arrival characteristics based on a connection service level agreement (SLA) are represented by a family of N arrival curves. The degree of non-conformance of a cell is evaluated by inspecting, which m arrival curves were violated and which N-m arrival curves were non-violated by the arriving cells. Subsequently in context of discard, non-conforming tagged cells are further prioritized based on their degree of non-conformance. Thus cells associated with a higher degree of non-conformance shall be discarded before cells with a relatively lower degree of non-conformance.

  • Patent number: 7535844
Abstract: A communication circuit comprises a plurality of receivers to receive the serial data from multiple lanes of a communication channel. The receivers may convert data received from the lanes from a serial to parallel format. Decoders may identify characters recovered from the different lanes, which collectively may define a word of width (i.e., character width) related to the number of lanes. Logic may determine when at least one of a start-of-frame and an end-of-frame character has been received. Parsing circuitry may then determine valid characters of a received word based on their placement relative to a start-of-frame character and/or an end-of-frame character. A controller may control when to present recovered data to at least one of storage registers or an output port, based on the character type identified by the decoder, its placement, an amount of characters parsed, and the number of characters already stored.

Abstract: A method assigns addresses to nodes in a wireless network. An address space is defined as an n-dimensional grid. Each grid intersection has coordinates of a corresponding possible node of a wireless network. A number of components of each coordinate is equal to a dimensionality of the grid, and the coordinates form a logical address of the corresponding node. A parent node assigns an unallocated logical address as a child node address to a child node joining the wireless network such that one component of the child node address is one larger than a corresponding component of the parent node.

  • Patent number: 7535865
Abstract: A system and method for remotely controlling an increased number of subsystems having an onboard locomotive control unit (LCU) and two associated operator control units (OCUs) on a single wireless channel. A time slot is assigned to each subsystem for making two-way transmissions to control the locomotive. A signal from an external timing source synchronizes each subsystem to minimize interference between transmissions from different subsystems. Time slots are assigned manually or automatically over a wireless network or by the LCU after monitoring the channel. The LCU automatically selects the direct or repeater transmission path depending upon whether or not it receives polling message responses from its associated OCUs. A GPS receiver in each subsystem receives the synchronization signal and provides geographic positioning data so the LCU can determine when to execute predefined, position-based commands. The secondary OCU may be turned off and rejoined to the subsystem without ceasing operation.
