  • Patent number: 7581260
Abstract: A protective garment of the type typically worn by fire fighters with improved water resistance is disclosed. In particular, the present invention is directed to an outer shell material for protective garments that is made from a fire resistant material coated with a durable water resistant coating. The durable water resistant coating is applied to the outer shell in a manner so that the coating will not degrade when exposed to normal wear and tear and even after the garment has been laundered repeatedly. Protective garments constructed in the past typically lost most of their water repellency after being laundered as little as five cycles. It has been discovered that water resistant coatings applied according to the process of the present invention, on the other hand, can survive at least 30 laundry cycles, and in many applications at least 50 laundry cycles without significantly degrading.

  • Patent number: 7581261
Abstract: The present invention is headgear of the billed cap type where the cap can have a fixed size crown. The cap includes an integral two-piece headband or sweatband attached along a bottom of the cap crown on the inside of the crown. The headband includes a first piece, stretchable part located in a front portion of the cap associated with the bill or sun visor and a second piece, non-stretchable part located in the rear. The stretchable part is stretched and attached to the crown in tension along a lower edge, allowing the upper edge of the headband to relax, and incline toward the interior of the crown and away from a sidewall of the crown. This relaxed upper edge is ready to stretch to fit a varying head size while the cap is not distorted by any stretching of the headband. The range of head sizes that can be accommodated by the cap can be increased by providing an elastic visor that is also attached to the cap crown along the bottom peripheral edge of the crown.

A flex circuit provides the necessary electrical connections to the electrically isolated electrodes of the piezoelectric ceramic layer.

Abstract: A piezoelectric vibrator has an airtight terminal comprised of a lead terminal and a piezoelectric member. The lead terminal has an inner lead portion and an outer lead portion. The piezoelectric member has an exciting electrode and a mount electrode disposed on a surface of the piezoelectric member. A plasma arc electrode is connected to a power supply for generating a plasma arc discharge. To bond together the inner lead portion of the lead terminal to the mount electrode of the piezoelectric member, the outer lead portion is connected to an output terminal of the power supply and the plasma arc electrode is positioned at a vicinity of a bonding portion for bonding together the inner lead portion and the mount electrode. A voltage is applied between the inner lead portion and the plasma arc electrode to generate a plasma arc discharge.

Abstract: Sealing tools are used in a machine in which foils are guided between two sealing tools that on their sides facing the foil have bumps with uniform relative spacing T. Compensation for the tolerances between the sealing tools and the foils is achieved for a defined penetration depth of the bumps into the foil workpiece. The spacing T of the bumps is predetermined, and subsequently an experimental measurement of the force ?DS is carried out that is necessary for the defined penetration depth of a test body of known geometry into the foils. Then, and with use of the force ?d applied by the sealing machine that is determined as the quotient of the forces applied to the sealing tools per surface unit of measure of the sealing tools, the corrugated surface A required for the defined penetration depth is set based on the relation A=?d*T2/?Ds.

  • Patent number: 7581299
Abstract: The invention eliminates the need of handling an engine in a process for assembling a torsion damper which couples the engine with a power transmission system and a torque limiter. In a damper unit with a torque limiter positioned between an output shaft of an engine and a power transmission shaft of a power transmission system, the damper unit includes a fly wheel damper, a torsion damper and a torque limiter. The torque limiter of the damper unit is coupled to the torsion damper with a set load applied thereto such that the torque limiter and the torsion damper are combined to form an assembly. The torsion damper and the torque limiter can be assembled by handling, independently of the engine, only components which are smaller and lighter than an engine. This improves the efficiency of the assembling operation of the damper unit with the torque limiter.

  • Patent number: 7581300
Abstract: A method for placing a functional element, especially a fastening element, in an especially liquid-tight and/or gastight manner, on a metal part. In this method a functional element provided with a hollow head segment is pressed against the metal part (212) witch is supported by a die (214). The metal material is deformed into an undercut (324) by deforming the head segment when simultaneous deformation of the hollow head segment occurs and the metal part is shaped in a forming area defined by parts (216) of the die (214). The parts (216) are kept in a stationary position during the forming process but are partially removed from the die to enable the functional element which is placed on the metal part (212) to be extracted. The invention also relates to a die, a functional element, an assembly element and a die arrangement.

Abstract: A fastener assembly for attaching components of dissimilar materials includes a fastener having a base portion and a protruding portion, and a mechanism for tightening the assembly. The base portion is shaped to be complementary for mating with an attachment feature formed within the non-metal component such that the base portion is retained within the non-metal component. The protruding portion including a base end and a distal end with the distal end including a threaded portion. The fastener assembly allows attachment of components fabricated from dissimilar materials without forming through holes in one of the components. Additionally, the fastener assembly compensates for differences in thermal expansion rates between the non-metal component and the metal component while providing a tight attachment therebetween.

Abstract: A magnetic gap in a solenoid core is formed by a non-magnetic brazing material bonded into a groove encircling the core in the region of the magnetic gap. A bore through a single piece core and valve cartridge is dimensioned to intersect the brazing material and remove magnetic material bridging the gap without severing the core into separate pieces. This allows the solenoid core and the valve cartridge to be machined in a single piece with a uniform diameter bore receiving a single piece solenoid plunger and valve spool. This ensures accurate concentricity of the plunger and spool within the bore, which improves magnetic performance while reducing manufacturing costs.

The firing tip includes a discharge end and a weld end, with the weld end being connected to a center electrode, and more specifically to a base electrode on the center electrode. The weld end has a coefficient of thermal expansion, which is not between the values for the coefficients of thermal expansion for the discharge end and the base electrode. More specifically, the weld end has a coefficient of thermal expansion which is greater than the coefficients of thermal expansion for the discharge end and base electrode. The weld end is formed from Nickel and Chromium with a limited amount of additional elements. The spark plug is assembled by providing a first elongated material formed from the material used for the discharge end and a second elongated material formed from a material used for the weld end.
