  • Patent number: 7609224
Abstract: Apparatus and methods that reduce wind loads on polygonal monopoles, such as antenna towers and other telecommunication structures, exposed to winds. A multiplicity of connected segmented truncated conical shrouds are attached along at least a portion of the length of a polygonal monopole (telecommunication structure or antenna tower) that surround it. The presence of the multiplicity of segmented conical shrouds changes the profile of the monopole from multi-sided or faceted polygonal to conical. Based on the specifications of the TIA/EIA-222-F which is the governing code for telecommunication structures, the reduction of the wind load on a 12-sided polygonal monopole is on the order of about 42 percent, on a 16-sided polygonal monopole is on the order of about 18 percent, and on a 18-sided polygonal monopole is on the order of about 9 percent.

  • Patent number: 7609235
Abstract: In the field of video displaying the low video levels do not generate large area flicker. For displaying video sources with higher frame rate, it is therefore the idea of the invention, to extract from two corresponding pixels of two successive video frames a common portion (Vx) that will be displayed at a sub-frequency fv/2 while the individual portions (V1?, V2?) of the corresponding pixels video are displayed at the correct high frequency fv. The time period for displaying two frames is divided into three sub-groups. Two groups of sub-fields with similar sizes, for displaying the individual portions (V1?, V2?) and one group of sub-fields, called extra-codes, for displaying the common portion (Vx). This enables to eliminate large area flicker artifacts from PDPs, when displaying 50 Hz based video norms by using upconverted 100 Hz video sequences and to display real high frequency video on the PDP (ca. up to 120 Hz) without frame dropping.

The signal driving system of the invention can make the data output port of the driving device transmit the second control signal to the next driving device.

Abstract: A method and appertaining system load 3D shape information defining a hearing aid shell into a processor and present a representation of the shell on a display. A fill boundary is entered by a user operating a user input device and a fill region for the shell is thus defined. The fill boundary is then displayed, but can be modified by the user. Various checks may be performed to ensure that the fill region is a proper one, and if not, a status can be provided to the user indicating why the fill region is unacceptable. The displayed shell can be rotated and moved to assist the user. Once an acceptable fill region has been defined, an indication is provided by the user that the displayed fill region is to be used as the actual fill region.

Abstract: The present invention models hairs by generating hairs by interpolation and then further modifying the interpolated hairs to form clumps. The modified hairs can be iteratively reprocessed to generate more hairs and thereby produce a greater level of detail in the resulting hairstyle. The invention can be used to model any tubular structures protruding from a surface, such as strands of fur protruding from an animal's skin and blades of grass or stems of plants protruding from the ground.

  • Patent number: 7609262
Abstract: Techniques are provided for representation of designs using a basic design which is then modified by a transformation function. In free form deformation techniques the transformation function is defined by a spline function which transforms the space in which the design is defined into a second space where the new modified design is defined. During the design process the parameters of the spline function determine the parameters of the transformation function. While using Evolution Strategies, parameters of the spline function also determine the parameters the optimization algorithm works in. In order to adapt the transformation function optimally to the given problem and the necessary modification a mutation operator is proposed which allows introduction and deletion of control points. Instead of the standard mutation operator in evolution strategies this mutation operator works on the representation of the problem/design.

Abstract: A drawing processing apparatus is provided to solve the problems in which pixels of a drawing primitive with sub-pixel information may have an increased amount of data causing a burden on implementation. A setup processing unit sets up various parameters to allow a digital differential analyzer (DDA) to process the stream of a drawing primitive supplied from a primitive input unit. The DDA performs DDA processing on the drawing primitive supplied from the setup processing unit for conversion into pixel data. The DDA performs the DDA processing on a per rectangular pixel set basis along a scan line to output the pixel data of the drawing primitive on a per rectangular pixel set basis. A compression encoding unit encodes the sub-pixel information of each pixel contained in the rectangular pixel set by run length encoding for output to a FIFO buffer.

  • Patent number: 7609265
Abstract: Real-time image rendering of diffuse and glossy objects in low-frequency lighting environments captures soft shadows, interreflections, and caustics. As a preprocess, a global transport simulator creates functions over the object's surface representing transfer of arbitrary, low-frequency source lighting into exiting radiance, but including global effects like shadowing and interreflection from the object onto itself. At run-time, these transfer functions are applied to the actual source lighting. Dynamic, local lighting is handled by sampling close to the object at every frame; the object can also be rigidly rotated with respect to the lighting and vice versa. Lighting and transfer functions are represented using low-order spherical harmonics. Functions for radiance transfer from a dynamic lighting environment through a preprocessed object to neighboring points in space further allow cast soft shadows and caustics from rigidly moving casters onto arbitrary, dynamic receivers.

Abstract: Generating a dynamic legend for a drawing developed by a diagramming software program. A drawing sheet module and legend module, logically-coupled to the drawing sheet module, are useful for generating and updating a dynamic legend. The legend module can support the addition of a legend to a drawing sheet. The legend module can also determine if legend symbols should be automatically added to the legend. If legend symbols are added to a drawing sheet, that addition can be automatically reflected in the dynamic legend. Symbols can be converted such that they may be reflected in a dynamic legend.
