Abstract: A combustor basket (20) is provided comprising a generally tubular wall (22) defining a cavity (24) and a liner (26) of a ceramic matrix composite material disposed within the cavity (24), wherein an interference fit exists between an outer surface (34) of the liner (26) located in the cavity (24) and an inner surface (28) of the generally tubular wall (22). Advantageously, the novel combustor basket (20) greatly reduces the amount of air or other medium needed to cool the combustor basket body and increases the maximum allowable flame temperature that the combustor basket (20) can withstand. A method of manufacturing the combustor basket (20) is also provided.

Abstract: A method of controlling mixing of a flow exiting a nozzle associated with a jet engine. The method may involve pivotally supporting a mixing structure forming a hinge device at a downstream edge of the nozzle. A shape memory alloy (SMA) element may be used to couple to the mixing structure. Heat may be generated by a flow exiting the nozzle to induce a phase change in the SMA element. The phase change may cause an axial length of the SMA element to constrict, to cause a pivoting movement of the mixing structure into a path of the flow exiting the nozzle.

Should the sensed operating conditions indicate that the refrigerant might be approaching a condition at which the refrigerant could solidify, corrective actions are taken to prevent refrigerant transformation to a solid thermodynamic state. Abstract: A safety switch is provided in which the open-close condition of a switching contact provided in a lock mechanism is reliably switched in a manner coupled with a motion of a lock member between a lock position and a unlock position. Since a link member, which directly and simultaneously switches the open-close conditions of normally-open and normally-closed switching contacts pursuant to the motion of a lock member, is provided, the open-close conditions of the normally-open and normally-close switching contacts can be switched reliably in a coupled manner with the motion of the lock member between the lock position and the unlock position. As a result, for example, by monitoring the open-close conditions of the normally-open and normally-close switching contacts, it is possible to determine to which of the lock position and the unlock position the lock member has moved, that is, which of the locked state and the unlocked state the rotation of the drive cam is in.
