Publication number: 20100139321Abstract: A method keeps the width of the manufactured sheet substantially the same by attaching edge directors for the formed sheet to the manufacturing apparatus structure instead of to the forming block. Thus, sheet glass may be manufactured to specification for a longer time with the same forming block. An additional method adjusts the width of the manufactured sheet by changing the distance between the edge directors. Thus sheet glass may be manufactured to different width specifications with the same forming block.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2010Publication date: June 10, 2010Inventor: Richard B. Publication number: 20100139364Abstract: A sensor including: a sensor element; terminal metal fittings; a terminal surrounding member; and lead wires. The terminal surrounding member is divided into a front side surrounding member and a rear side surrounding member, and a rear end face of the front side surrounding member abuts a front end face of the rear side surrounding member. The sensor includes a fitting structure including a recess portion formed on one of the rear and front end faces and a protruding portion formed on the other, such that one of the front side surrounding member and the rear side surrounding member is prevented from rotating relative to the other about an axis of the sensor, and is prevented from deviating in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the sensor relative to the other.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD.Inventors: Makato KUME, Noboru MATSUI

Publication number: 20100139367Abstract: A method of analysing the hydrocarbon compounds in a bituminous material by means of comprehensive multi-dimensional gas chromatography is disclosed. The method may be used to measure the quantity of polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) in a bituminous material and may be used to determine the mutagenic tendency of a bituminous material.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2008Publication date: June 10, 2010Inventors: Jan Blomberg, Patricia Lecoutaller, Francois Julien Raoul Deygout

Publication number: 20100139368Abstract: All-optical photoacoustic spectrometer sensing systems (PASS system) and methods include all the hardware needed to analyze the presence of a large variety of materials (solid, liquid and gas). Some of the all-optical PASS systems require only two optical-fibers to communicate with the opto-electronic power and readout systems that exist outside of the material environment. Methods for improving the signal-to-noise are provided and enable mirco-scale systems and methods for operating such systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Inventors: Jack Kotovsky, William J. Publication number: 20100139369Abstract: A system and method for controlling electrical heating of an element to maintain a constant electrical resistance, by adjusting electrical power supplied to such element according to an adaptive feedback control algorithm, in which all the parameters are (1) arbitrarily selected; (2) pre-determined by the physical properties of the controlled element; or (3) measured in real time. Unlike the conventional proportion-integral-derivative (PID) control mechanism, the system and method of the present invention do not require re-tuning of proportionality constants when used in connection with a different controlled element or under different operating conditions, and are therefore adaptive to changes in the controlled element and the operating conditions.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2010Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: Advanced Technology Materials, Inc.Inventors: ING-SHIN CHEN, Jeffrey W. Publication number: 20100139370Abstract: An apparatus (10) monitors the condition of a component (12) by measuring the conductivity to air flow of a sealed cavity (14) formed on the surface of the component (12). The apparatus (10) comprises an unregulated pressure source (16) that is coupled to the cavity (14) via a fluid flow restriction (17). A measurement system (19) provides a measurement of, or related to, the volumetric air flow through the restriction (17), and calculates a conductivity index CI to air flow of the cavity in accordance with the equation CI=flow/pressure difference. In this equation “flow” is the volumetric flow of air through the flow restriction and “pressure difference” is the difference in pressure across the cavity with reference to atmospheric or ambient pressure. In the event that a crack traverses the cavity and provides a flow path to the atmosphere, the conductivity index CI will be a non-zero value. The higher the conductivity index the larger the crack.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2007Publication date: June 10, 2010Inventor: Jonathan Fievez
