Abstract: Ballistic chaps for protecting the femur and femoral artery region of a wearer as well as the knee portions and lower leg portions include leg portions with ballistic armor inserts that extend downwardly from a wearer's waist region to terminate at a point above the wearer's ankles, thereby covering at least a front portion of the wearer's upper thighs, preferably also the hip and flank, as well as the knee region and the frontal lower leg region. The leg portions terminate at the sides of the wearer, thereby providing flexibility of movement and minimizing heat entrapment. A plurality of attachment regions may be provided on the exterior surface of the leg portions to provide a mounting platform for various types of peripheral equipment. A quick release system is employed to allow rapid detachment of the ballistic chaps from the wearer.

Abstract: Embodiments of an eye protector are made of a molded plastic part connected with a metal part. The plastic part consists of a generally C-shaped configuration with an elongated portion overlying the eyebrows and arcuate fingers designed to overlie the wearer's cheekbones. The metallic part includes an arcuate portion staggered significantly forwardly with respect to the plastic part. The horizontal stagger virtually precludes a ball from impacting on both the plastic part and the metallic part simultaneously, and the thin profile of the metallic part causes deflection of a ball rather than rebound. Embodiments also include a downwardly depending inverted V-shaped portion that protects the wearer's face below the eyes.

Abstract: A spa control system that measures the flow of water through the heater and accurately reports water temperature in the spa using only one solid-state sensor in the heater. The working condition of the sensor is first determined by activating the heater for a brief period of time, with the circulation pump de-energized, and watching for the expected heat rise at the sensor. A small rise is sufficient to proceed with the flow test. The rate of flow is now determined by energizing the pump, with the heater still de-energized, and observing the rate in which the moving water cools the inside of the heater. If there is no circulation of water through the heater, the temperature of the sensor will continue to rise from the energy applied when the heater was briefly energized. This rise will be quite significant and a clear indication of a flow problem. If the flow is found to be adequate, the heater will be energized for a normal period of time.

The patient transfer device may have registration marks for installation of the sheet, and indicator marks can be printed at predetermined locations on the waterproof layer for alignment with the registration marks. The sheet may include various means for indicating prior use by a patient, such as an ink pattern made of a heat-sensitive or moisture-sensitive ink. The sheet may further include a peel-away layer releasably bonded to the absorbent layer, with additional longitudinal adhesive strips applied to the side edges of the peel-away layer. The peel-away layer protects the lower belt against contamination from the sheet after a patient is delivered.

Abstract: Systems, methods, beds, supports surfaces and machine readable medium for associating beds and support surface of a healthcare facility are disclosed. A surface association system for a healthcare facility may comprise a plurality of beds. The system may further comprise a computing device and a plurality of support surfaces to be placed upon beds of the plurality of beds. The computing device may associate a support surface of the plurality of support surfaces with a bed of the plurality of beds. The computing device may make the association based upon status data received from the plurality of beds and the plurality of support surfaces. The support surface and/or bed to be associated may initiate a surface association request. The computing device, in response to the surface association request, may request performance of one or more actions on the bed and/or support surface to be associated to identify the bed and/or support surface from the beds and support surfaces of the healthcare facility.

The first and second rails each terminate near a head end and a foot end of the patient-support apparatus. A patient support platform includes at least one pivotable deck section and is carried by the frame. A cable conduit is coupled to the set of cross members and extends parallel with the first and second rails. The cable conduit supports a plurality of electrical cables that extend between the head end and foot end of the patient-support apparatus.

Abstract: Cushions are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a cushion is comprised of a plurality of foam profiles each having a top surface and a bottom surface, and a geometry of reduced cross-section area from the top surface to the bottom surface in a vertical projection. The plurality of foam profiles are arranged such that the top surfaces of the plurality of foam profiles are disposed in or substantially in a first plane. In this manner, hollow portions can be formed between adjacent foam profiles. At least one sheet of material is affixed to at least one of the top surface and the bottom surface of the plurality of foam profiles. When a compression force is imposed on the cushion, the hollow portions allow the foam profiles to adapt to deformation. Further, by providing the hollow portions, the cushion can more easily be rolled or wrapped for transport or storage.
