Abstract: A down-the-hole assembly includes a housing having a central axis and a mechanical gear box positioned within the housing. The mechanical gear box is coupled to the housing such that rotation of the housing at a first rotational rate provides a rotary input to the mechanical gear box. A rotary cutting bit is coupled to the mechanical gear box. The mechanical gear box is configured to rotate said rotary cutting bit at a second rotational rate in response to that rotary input from the housing. The second rotational rate is greater than the first rotational rate. The mechanical gear box is also further configured to cause the rotary cutting bit to orbit about the central axis of the housing.

Abstract: When an engine is driven on a different type of fuel (for example, ethanol-containing fuel) from a reference fuel (for example, gasoline) and the engine torque is thus greater than that produced when the engine is driven on the reference fuel, a differential state control device expands a non-differential range compared to that at the time when the reference fuel is used. Thus, in the case where a plurality of types of fuel including the reference fuel are supplied to the engine, the advantage of switching a power distribution mechanism between a differential enabled state and a non-differential state can be fully utilized in correspondence with engine torque characteristics which may vary in accordance with the type of fuel for the engine. As a result, the fuel consumption rate can be reduced in correspondence with the plurality of types of fuel supplied to the engine, for example.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a caliper for a caliper-type disk brake, wherein the caliper has the following: a brake-application-side caliper section (10) with at least one support surface (22.1, 22.2) for absorbing clamping forces during braking, a rim-side caliper section which is formed in one piece with the brake-application-side caliper section 912), and a first recess (14) which is situated between the two caliper sections and into which at least one brake disk projects at least in sections in the installed state. It is provided according to the invention that, to form the support surface, a machining tool (40) is moved through the first recess into the region in which the support surface is to be formed.

Abstract: Vehicle disk brake designed as a service brake and as a parking- or immobilizing brake, having a brake anchor plate, which is to be fastened to the chassis of a motor vehicle by means of at least one screw bolt and in which two guide bolts are accommodated in order to guide a brake caliper displaceably relative to the brake anchor plate, and having a hydraulic chamber, in which a brake piston is accommodated in order to bring friction linings into and out of frictional engagement with a brake disk. A separately manipulable assembly is built onto the vehicle disk brake and has an electric motor as well as an electronic control and power device in order, independently of a hydraulic actuation of the brake piston, to actuate the brake piston via a rotary-to-linear motion converter in the sense of bringing the friction linings into and out of engagement with the brake disk.

Abstract: Disclosed is a disc brake. The disc brake includes clip parts provided at inner portions of both side ends of a pair of pad plates and engaged with protrusions formed in the carrier and torsion pins fitted into the clip parts such that the clip parts are rotated between the pad plates upon a braking operation of the disc brake. Upon the braking operation, the pad plates push the carrier so that the clip parts are rotated about the torsion pins by the pad plates. Thus, strain energy of the carrier is absorbed through warpage deformation of the torsion pins, so that the carrier has sufficient strength even if an outer beam is removed.

An inner surface of the Coulomb friction bar is in abutting contact with the external surface of the tie-bar, whereby because of the continuous peripheral edge welding, corrosion cannot find entry into the interface of the two surfaces, yet the two surfaces form are free to vibrate one as to the other in Coulomb friction fashion to thereby provide damping and reduction of brake squeal and other noise.

The conducting member is coupled to a payload and positioned within the gap. The conducting member is configured to vibrate in response to a vibration of the payload. The conducting member comprises a conducting material. Vibration of the conducting member generates eddy currents in the conducting member, and the eddy currents generate a frequency-dependent damping force. The frequency-dependent damping force is adjustable based on the conducting material and a thickness of the conducting member.
