Abstract: Method and apparatus for analysing a fractionated liquid sample received in a vessel having a reference feature, the method comprising capturing an image of the reference feature and an image of a first boundary of a first fraction within the sample, and analysing the captured images to determine the separation of the first boundary from the reference feature. The determined separation can then be used to calculate, for example, the volume of the first fraction associated with the first boundary. Methods and apparatus for aspirating desired volumes from analysed samples are also described.

Abstract: An apparatus for measuring pressure comprises a housing and an actuator pressure sealed to the housing and having a shaft. The actuator is configured to be in pressure communication with a volume of gas or liquid. Upon a change in pressure, the actuator is displaced at least partially in the axial direction. A sensor detects axial displacement of a magnetically encoded target upon the change in pressure in the volume. A device for measuring pressure in an engine cylinder comprises a valve in pressure communication with an engine cylinder. The valve stem has a magnetic coding located adjacent a sensor. Axial displacement of the stem under cylinder pressure is detected and pressure is obtained.

Abstract: A system and method for determining whether a shut-off valve in a cabin heating by-pass line of a thermal sub-system associated with an engine has failed that uses the pump current for a pump that pumps the cooling fluid through the by-pass line. The method includes setting a predetermined constant speed of the pump and then providing a valve command that opens the by-pass valve. The method then determines if the pump current has increased or remained substantially the same when the by-pass valve is commanded open, and determines that the by-pass valve has not opened if the pump current remains substantially constant when the by-pass valve is commanded open.

The variables of the system of equations represent the force signals supplied by the force transmitters to the mechanical resonator and the readout signals produced by the excitation/readout vibration pick-offs. The coefficients of the system of equations contain information relating to the linear transformation which maps the force signals onto the readout signals.
