Abstract: A display apparatus (1) comprises a matrix display device (DD) with pixels (10) wherein particles (14) move in a fluid (13) between electrodes (6, 6?, 7). An optical state of the pixels (10) is defined by a value of a drive voltage (VDi) and a duration (Di) of a drive period (TDi) during which the drive voltage (VDi) is present across the pixel (10). A DC-balancing circuit (3) controls the amplitudes of the drive voltages (VDi) and/or durations (Di) of drive periods (TDi) to obtain a substantially zero time-average value (N) across each pixel (10) or across each sub-group of pixels. This control of the amplitude of the drive voltages (VDi) and/or the duration (Di) of the drive periods (TDi) allows minimizing the image retention, without requiring reset pulses causing all pixels (10) to become temporarily white or black.

Abstract: A backlight control device for controlling a driving current of an LED is disclosed. By controlling current outputs from current sources of a plurality of current output units, a display will be able to generate desirable backlight. Then by adjusting currents output by the plurality of current output units, brightness of a plurality of pixels can be dynamically adjusted. The brightness of pixels with higher gray levels can be increased while the brightness of pixels with lower gray levels can be decreased, thereby improving the contrast of image and saving power consumption.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are an apparatus and a method for driving an e-paper panel. The e-paper panel driving apparatus includes a DC/DC converter that converts and outputs DC voltage to be input into a preset voltage and supplies the output voltage as a driving voltage of an e-paper panel; a sensing module that senses load conditions of the e-paper panel; and a control module that varies the driving frequency of the DC/DC converter according to the load conditions of the e-paper panel sensed by the sensing module. According to the present invention, the driving clock of the DC/DC converter that supplies the driving voltage to the e-paper panel is varied in consideration of the load conditions of the e-paper panel, thereby making it possible to prevent an image quality of the e-paper panel from being degraded due to unstable power supply, while simultaneously minimizing unnecessary power consumption of the e-paper panel driving apparatus.
