Publication number: 20110293747Abstract: The field of colonic diagnostic and surgical procedures is hampered by the lack of optimal means available to cleanse the colon. A compromise between convenient, distasteful, solid or low volume, hyperosmotic solutions which cause considerable fluid and electrolyte imbalances in patients and large volume, difficult to consume, iso-osmotic solutions has had to be made heretofore. This invention describes a low volume, hyper-osmotic solution consisting of sulfate salts with and with out polyethylene glycol, and further comprising a sweetener and/or flavoring. Publication number: 20110293752Abstract: Noni juice and a protein-free, alcohol precipitate of Noni juice inhibited angiogenesis in in vitro human angiogenesis models. When growth medium contained Noni juice at least over the range from about 2.5% to about 33% (by volume), angiogenesis was blocked. Moreover, Noni juice and an ethanol precipitate were able to destroy a pre-existing angiogenic response as well as prevent the development of new vessels. Noni juice was effective in inhibiting the growth of angiogenic vessels from breast cancer explants. It will also be effective in treating cancers and non-cancerous diseases whose response includes an increase in angiogenesis, e.g., retinopathy of prematurity, neovascular glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and psoriasis. In an initial experiment, Noni juice was effective in treating lesions associated with psoriasis. The primary antiangiogenic component is believed to be a carbohydrate with a molecular weight less than about 6000 Daltons.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2011Publication date: December 1, 2011Inventors: Eugene A. Microalgal cells containing exogenous genes encoding, for example, a lipase, a sucrose transporter, a sucrose invertase, a fructokinase, a polysaccharide-degrading enzyme, a keto acyl-ACP synthase enzyme, a fatty acyl-ACP thioesterase, a fatty acyl-CoA/aldehyde reductase, a fatty acyl-CoA reductase, a fatty aldehyde reductase, a fatty aldehyde decarbonylase, and/or an acyl carrier protein are useful in manufacturing food compositions, and transportation fuels such as renewable diesel, biodiesel, and renewable jet fuel, as well as oleochemicals such as functional fluids, surfactants, soaps and lubricants.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2011Publication date: December 1, 2011Applicant: Solazyme, Inc.Inventors: Scott Franklin, Aravind Somanchi, Janice Wee, George Rudenko, Jeffrey L. Publication number: 20110293786Abstract: A phospholipase C enzyme having the ability to hydrolyze a phospholipid in both acidic and around neutral ranges and in a citrate buffer solution, as well as having a degree of heat stability, and having a property not to hydrolyze phosphate esters not containing lipid moieties. The phospholipase C enzyme shows activity from acidic to neutral pH and does not substantially hydrolyze any phosphate esters except for phospholipids.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2011Publication date: December 1, 2011Applicant: MITSUBISHI-KAGAKU FOODS CORPORATIONInventors: Eiko Nagasaki, Tetsuya Fukazawa, Yasunori Ono

Publication number: 20110293788Abstract: An enzyme resistant starch type III having a melting point or endothermic peak of at least about 140° C. as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is produced in yields of at least about 25% by weight, based upon the weight of the original starch ingredient. A gelatinization stage, nucleation/propagation stage, and preferably a heat-treatment stage are used to produce reduced calorie starch-based compositions which contain the enzyme resistant starch type III. The high melting point of the enzyme resistant starch permits its use in baked good formulations without substantial loss of enzyme resistance upon baking. A gelatinized, starch-based bulking agent having at least 30% by weight of the enzyme-resistant starch may be used in bar-type, extruded, sheeted, or rotary molded food products. The melting enthalpy of the bulking agent may be from about 0.5 to about 4 Joules/g and its water-holding capacity may be less than 3 grams.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2011Publication date: December 1, 2011Applicant: KRAFT FOODS GLOBAL BRANDS LLCInventors: Lynn HAYNES, Norbert GIMMLER, John P.
