Abstract: A method of forming a scribe line in a strengthened glass substrate includes providing a strengthened glass substrate having a first surface, a second surface, a first edge and a second edge. The first and second surfaces have a strengthened surface layer under a compressive stress, and a central region under tensile stress. The method further includes applying a scoring blade to the first surface at an initiation location that is offset from the first edge by an initiation offset distance greater than a diameter of the scoring blade, and translating the scoring blade or the strengthened glass substrate such that the scoring blade scores the first surface. The translation is terminated such that the scoring blade stops at a termination location that is offset from the second edge of the strengthened glass substrate by a termination offset distance greater than the diameter of the scoring blade.

Abstract: A shoulder rest for a violin, viola or like instrument is described which has a reduced risk and incidence of slippage and disengagement from the instrument by having provided thereon a cross-member adjacent to or displaced from the rest member of the shoulder rest, which cross-member is resilient and substantially stretch resistant and preferably linking two support members protruding from or associated with the rest member of the shoulder rest. When pressure is applied during use, the legs (or support members) of the shoulder rest do not splay and the shoulder rest remains in position. Feet or gripping members for attaching a shoulder rest to a violin reduced any detrimental impact to the sound quality of the violin caused by use of a shoulder rest by maintaining contact with the backplate only in the area of the backplate outside the inner purfling line.

Abstract: An instrument in which an acoustic or otherwise measurable disturbance of change is made in physical matter is disclosed. In one embodiment an oscillatory vortex shedding phenomenon is formed in water, in association with each of a plurality of finger holes. Water flows past a branch point where it can either flow over a labium, edge or the like in a resonant pipe, or out a finger hole, the finger hole being the path of lesser resistance to the water. Obstruction of the finger hole forces the water past on underwater sound production mechanism. Blocking water from coming out of a given hole produces a given hole, which, in some embodiments, is electrically amplified by a hydrophone. Abstract: A gun fired projectile includes a rocket motor housing including a pressure chamber and an exhaust nozzle. A plurality of propellant cells are positioned within the pressure chamber. The rocket motor propellant is mechanically supported during the severe gun fire event. This support may take several forms, each of which is discussed herein. The projectile further includes a support structure including one or more supports: wherein each of the one or more supports is engaged with the rocket motor housing. Each of the one or more supports is engaged with one propellant cell of the plurality of propellant cells, and each of the one or more supports suspends an individual propellant cell from the remainder of the plurality of propellant cells. All of these approaches provide the opportunity to tailor the performance of the rocket motor by combining a combination of propellant formulations and geometries to optimize the projectile performance.

Abstract: A device is provided for warding off objects approaching a ship under or on water by using ammunition bodies to be detonated below the water surface, the device comprising: an ignition device programmable to the water depth at which ignition is to be carried out automatically. In order to selectively ward off objects approaching the ship, in the event of the presumption of a threat, the device may detect both the distance and the direction of the object approaching using an underwater positioning system, and transmitting the data to the actuators of a launching device of an ammunition launcher that is disposed on the ship, and positioned about two axes via a firing guide computer so that, after firing a respective ammunition body, the same strikes the water surface above the object at a precisely predefined region, or at a predetermined distance from the object.
