Abstract: The present invention provides a method for fixing an orthogonal angle of rollers in a seismic isolation system having a support mechanism by the rollers which are overlapped up and down and orthogonal to each other, Since a structure is shaken when a damping three of a damping mechanism exceeds seismic energy, a damping mechanism having a function of controlling and suppressing the damping force in accordance with the seismic energy is also produced. In order to maintain the orthogonal angle of the rollers, retaining materials having slight clearances which allow rolling of the rollers are attached to orthogonal parts of the rollers so as to fix the orthogonal angle. Meanwhile, energy absorption when a linear steel material is wound around a cylindrical material and continuously deformed by a horizontal force serves as the damping force, and by changing an axial section area of the linear steel material, an energy absorbing amount is controlled.

Abstract: A system and method which implements a preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a pump control module for controlling evaporative emissions of engines. In one embodiment, fuel vapor is allowed to accumulate in an intake manifold for a first period of time after an engine is turned off. After the first period of time, the pump control module may open a vacant port and turn on a pump. The pump control module may run the pump for a second period of time. The second period of time may be determined based on the time needed to empty an estimated volume of accumulated fuel vapor from the intake manifold into one or more canisters, such as activated charcoal canisters. After the second period of time, the pump control module may decrease the running time and/or speed of the pump. When the engine is restarted, the vacant port may be closed, the pump may be turned off, and fuel vapor stored in the canisters may be controllably consumed via a purge valve mounted to the intake manifold.

Abstract: A vehicle includes an engine, an exhaust system, an SCR device, upstream and downstream NOx sensors, and a controller. The controller is in electrical communication with the NOx sensors, and is configured for detecting a stuck-in-range fault condition of the downstream NOx sensor during a low exhaust flow condition. The controller detects the condition, receives the upstream and downstream NOx levels from the respective upstream and downstream NOx sensors, and compares these levels to a zero or near-zero threshold when the low exhaust flow condition is active. The controller is also configured for executing a first control action when the upstream NOx level is below the threshold and the downstream NOx level exceeds the threshold, and executing a second control action when neither of the levels exceeds the threshold. A method is also disclosed for diagnosing the stuck-in-range condition.

Abstract: A method for operating a liquid reductant injection system is provided. The method includes storing a reductant mixture of ethanol, water, and urea; drawing the stored mixture into an electrically heated pick-up tube for delivery via a delivery line to the exhaust by operating a pump in a first direction; and, clearing a return line that returns the stored mixture or the delivery line by operating the pump in a second, reverse, direction. In this way, by including ethanol in the reductant solution, a freezing point temperature of the liquid reductant may be reduced.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling engine operations to a low NOx output amount at low selective catalytic reduction (SCR) temperature values and alternatively for controlling engine operations in an EGR cooler bypass regime at low engine load levels is described. The apparatus includes a controller that interprets a present speed and a present load of an engine, that determines an engine operating region in response to the present speed and the present load, and that provides an EGR cooler bypass command that provides EGR cooler bypass flow in response to the engine operating region being a first, low load, region. The controller operates the engine with supplemental NOx management in response to the engine operating region being a second, intermediate load, region. The controller operates the engine without either of the EGR cooler bypass or the supplemental NOx management in response to the engine operating region being a third region.

Abstract: In an exhaust gas treatment device in which a diesel oxidation catalyst and a DPF are provided in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine, abnormal combustion in the DPF, occurring when the internal combustion engine varies from a high load condition to a low load condition, poses a problem. To solve this problem, in the present invention, a DPF abnormal combustion causing operation is determined to have occurred when the internal combustion engine shifts from a high rotation or high load operation region ? to a low rotation, low load operation region ? within a set time T1. When it is determined that a DPF abnormal combustion causing operation has occurred, abnormal combustion of PM collected in the DPF is suppressed by fully opening an intake throttle valve 44 in order to increase an exhaust gas flow so that heat is removed by sensible heat of the exhaust gas, thereby cooling a DPF device 52, and continuing a late post-injection in order to reduce an oxygen concentration of the DPF.
