Abstract: Metal surfaces may be cleaned using a dry ice (CO2) blasting processes. Once cleaned, the surfaces are ready to be painted. The process of this invention is especially useful on ships where there are numerous metal surfaces that are subject to dirt and corrosions. The proper operating parameters for each of the types of metal surfaces require exacting conditions. These parameters include the size of the dry ice pellets, the discharge rate of the ice pellets, the type of nozzle being used and the flow rate of the pellets, the pressure of the pellets leaving the nozzle. The dry ice cleaning processes of the present invention eliminates secondary waste streams and moisture, leaving the treated surfaces immediately ready for painting. Only the dirt, loose paint, debris and other surface contaminants removed during the dry ice cleaning process need to be cleaned up prior to preservation and/or painting and return to service.

Abstract: The softener is based on a capacitive-deionization (CDI) cell, in which the hardness ions are extracted, and disposed of still intact, in concentrated form. The softener is combined with a chelate to inhibit precipitation, in the appliance, from the concentrated effluent. The chelate being citric acid, the acidity is effective to keep the hardness ions in solution. The purify and regenerate modes of operation of the softener can be timed to coincide with the washing and rinsing cycles of the appliance, whereby the presence of the softener does not affect the speed and performance of the appliance.

Abstract: Acoustically insulated machines have an internal source of noise and an insulation member. The insulation member may include a plurality of porous, sound absorbing layers and a plurality of dense or facing layers attached to faces of the sound absorbing layers. The dense or facing layers each have a density that is greater than the densities of the sound absorbing layers. The insulation member may be oriented such that one of the dense or facing layers faces toward the internal source of noise. The insulation member may be configured such that most of the low frequency sound energy generated by the internal source of noise is not reflected back into the machine. That is, the dense or facing layer may be configured to allow a majority of low frequency sound energy from the internal source of noise to pass into the insulation member.

Abstract: An automatic cleaning device includes a cleaning tube having a longitudinal hole extending along a longitudinal axis. A connecting tube extends from a bottom of an intermediate section of the cleaning tube and is rotatably received in a draining tube in a bottom of a liquid container. Left and right guiding openings are defined in bottoms of left and right sections of the cleaning tube and extend slantingly from an outer periphery through an inner periphery of the cleaning tube. Each guiding opening includes a central axis spaced from the longitudinal axis. The left and right guiding openings have opposite extending directions. Siphon effect is created when a liquid in the liquid container is being drained via the draining tube. The liquid imparts force to inner peripheral walls of the guiding openings, causing the cleaning tube and the connecting tube to rotate about a central axis of the connecting tube.

Abstract: A water level sensing apparatus which more precisely senses a level of supplied water, a water supply hose and a washing machine having the same is provided. The water level sensing apparatus includes a main body provided with an inner wall and an outer wall and filled with water supplied to the inside of the inner wall, a plurality of electrodes inserted between the inner wall and the outer wall to be opposite to each other, and a micro-computer to judge a water level in the main body through variation of a capacitance value of the plurality of electrodes. Therethrough, the water level sensing apparatus more directly measures a water level, as compared to the conventional water level sensing apparatus, thus improving precision in water level measurement. Thereby, the water level sensing apparatus prevents unnecessary water supply and reduces energy consumption.

Abstract: A walker which can be used on stairs as well as on a level surface. The walker has legs which are comprised of hydraulic cylinders with integral pistons. Each pair of legs is part of a frame. The walker is configured such that each frame provides that fluid can flow from one leg of the frame to the other. Because the fluid is generally incompressible and the amount of fluid in each frame is fixed, movement of one piston of the frame causes the other piston of the frame to move. As such, as one leg of the frame lengthens, the other leg of the frame automatically shortens in response, and vise versa. While the walker is configured such that the legs can be shortened and lengthened, preferably the walker is also configured such that the legs can be locked in place.
