Abstract: An arbitrary modulation frequency of a modulating signal is selected. The modulating signal is applied to an information-bearing signal, where such modulation is carried out through digital signal processing operations. The digitally modulated signal is resolution-reduced and the quantization noise introduced by such is shaped to locate a spectral null in the noise transfer function of the resolution reducing modulator at the modulation frequency. Thus, the modulation frequency can be selected independently of the clock frequency at which the resolution-reduced samples are converted to an analog signal.

Abstract: There is a need for reducing the scale of a circuit that determines and decodes code types for reception signals coded with different codes. A reception logic circuit determines and decodes code types for reception signals coded with different codes. The reception logic circuit determines one of code types for a demodulation signal corresponding to the reception signal based on a difference between codes detected during a modulation period or a non-modulation period occurring in the demodulation signal. The reception logic circuit decodes the code type in accordance with the determined code type based on the modulation period or the non-modulation period that alternately occurs in the demodulation signal. In this manner, the received data is reproduced. There is no need for a decoder specific to each code.

The core has a periodic structure composed of a plurality of materials each having a different real part of refractive index in the direction perpendicular to the waveguiding direction. A planarizing layer is disposed between the core and the cladding. The critical angle for total reflection of the X-rays at the interface between the planarizing layer and the cladding is larger than the Bragg angle of the periodic structure of the core.

Abstract: An apparatus for forming a beam of energetic particles and for scanning the beam of particles with respect to an inspected object. The apparatus has a source of energetic particles characterized by an effective beam origin and a rotating hoop having at least one aperture, such that the effective beam origin of the source is closer to the inspected object than the axis of rotation of the rotating hoop. A collimating structure disposed interior to the rotating hoop collimates emission by the source into a fan beam prior to impinging on the rotating hoop. In some embodiments, the effective beam origin may be moved with respect to the axis of rotation of the hoop.

Abstract: A digital intercom system provides DC power and multi-channel bidirectional digital communications over existing cabling such as microphone cabling used in analog intercom networks. Three or more conductors in the cabling are used for both transmitting and receiving digital signals and carrying DC power. The digital intercom system includes digital user stations and a digital master station which can be used to retrofit an existing analog intercom network or deployed in a new network. User stations can be connected to the cabling via drop cables which do not use active electronic components. The master station routes digital audio and control data packets in three or more channels based on respective network addresses of the user stations to provide point-to-point, point-to-multi-point, and party line communications among the user stations. Sessions and groups can be configured which define talker and listener user stations.
