Abstract: A downwind morphing rotor that exhibits bending loads that will be reduced by aligning the rotor blades with the composite forces. This reduces the net loads on the blades which therefore allow for a reduced blade mass for a given maximum stress. Also provided is a pre-aligned configuration rotor whereby the rotor geometry and orientation does not change with wind speed, and instead is fixed at a constant downwind deflection consistent with alignment at or near the rated wind speed conditions. Also provided is a twist morphing rotor where the airfoil-shapes around the spars twist relative to the wind due to aerodynamic forces so as to unload the rotors when there is a gust. This can help reduce unsteady stresses on the blade and therefore may allow for reduced blade mass and cost. The twist morphing rotor may be combined with either downwind morphing rotor or pre-alignment rotor.

Abstract: Platforms (36, 38) span between turbine blades (23, 24, 25) on a disk (32). Each platform may be individually mounted to the disk by a pin attachment (42). Each platform (36) may have a rotationally rearward edge portion (50) that underlies a forward portion (45) of the adjacent platform (38). This limits centrifugal bending of the rearward portion of the platform, and provides coolant sealing. The rotationally forward edge (44A, 44B) of the platform overlies a seal element (51) on the pressure side (28) of the forwardly adjacent blade, and does not underlie a shelf on that blade. The pin attachment allows radial mounting of each platform onto the disk via tilting (60) of the platform during mounting to provide mounting clearance for the rotationally rearward edge portion (50). This facilitates quick platform replacement without blade removal.

Abstract: A fluid feed pump is configured, such that a fluid is fed from an outlet channel of the fluid feed pump through an outlet buffer chamber to a fluid channel. The outlet buffer chamber is designed to have a higher compliance than a compliance of a pump chamber. The driving period of the fluid feed pump is set to a shorter period than a time constant defined by the compliance of the pump chamber and a flow resistance between an inlet of the outlet channel and an outlet of the fluid channel. This enables the fluid to be fed with high efficiency by taking advantage of the pressure oscillation occurring between the pump chamber and the outlet buffer chamber.

Abstract: The present invention provides such pumping apparatuses that have very little deviation and high stability in pumping flow. A pumping apparatus comprises two members that are set along a longitudinal direction of a tube made of an elastic material with a relation that the space formed by grooves made in the two members holds the tube. The two members have reciprocal motion such that at least one of the two opposing members shuttles in parallel with the other opposing member and has a move-in motion such that at least one of the two opposing members vertically moves to the opposing surfaces of the other opposing member so that surrounding part of the groove thereof moves into an inner space of the groove of the other opposing member, by which motion the liquid in the tube is discharged from the tube by the deformation of tube cross sectional shape.

Abstract: In a scroll compressor, a sealing portion of a discharge cover placed between a suction spacer and a discharge space is formed to be spaced apart in an axial direction from a fixed scroll, whereby the discharge cover is in contact with a fixture in an axial direction only on a single circumference, facilitating fabrication and assembling of the discharge cover. Also, after assembly, when the discharge cover is pressurized toward the fixed scroll by a discharge pressure of a refrigerant discharged to the discharge space, the discharge cover does not transfer pressurization force to the fixed scroll, thus reducing a frictional loss between the fixed scroll and an orbiting scroll.

Abstract: A seal member is configured so that an annular rubber member is disposed in an annular storage chamber of a resin annular member. Thus, the rubber annular member is not directly in contact with a drive shaft, and the rubber annular member can be prevented from wearing or peeling without requiring a rotation stopping structure for the seal member. Furthermore, the seal member is provided with first and second communication mouths, so that a brake fluid pressure is applied to compartments obtained by dividing the annular storage chamber using the rubber annular member. Thus, the rubber annular member is pressed, and then is elastically deformed, and accordingly, the resin annular member is expanded by the elastic force. Thus, a self-sealing operation can be performed on the basis of a high pressing force.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) for implants, where the implants have been machined out of UHMWPE blocks or extruded rods, has anthocyanin dispersely imbedded in the polyethylene. The implant is then exposed to ? ray or electron beam irradiation in an amount of at least 2.5 Mrad followed by a heat treatment to prevent the implant from becoming brittle in the long term as well as to improve strength and wear. The method includes mixing a powder or granulate resin of UHMWPE with an aqueous liquid that contains anthocyanin in a predetermined amount. The water is then evaporated to deposit the anthocyanin in a predetermined concentration on the polyethylene particles. The doped UHMWPE particles are compressed into blocks at temperatures in a range of approximately 135° C.-250° C. and pressures in a range of approximately 2-70 MPa. Medical implants are made from the blocks.
