Abstract: A fastener system that includes a fastener, a compression-limiting sleeve, and a retainer which generally retains the compression-limiting sleeve on the fastener. By providing that the compression-limiting sleeve is not staked to the fastener, existing technology can be used, and no extra staking processing step needs to be performed. The fastener may comprise a conventional metal threaded screw or bolt, possibly having a recess in its head for receiving a driver. Preferably, the compression-limiting sleeve is cold headed as opposed to being stamped, and preferably includes a counter bore which assures that an end of the retainer is below an end surface of the compression-limiting sleeve. Preferably, the retainer is formed of a thermoplastic elastomer or another suitable material.

Abstract: A fastening element, which may be in the form of a blind rivet or screw, is intended to be fired into an unperforated workpiece. In its front region that is intended to be fired into the workpiece, it includes a punching section which is formed in a cylindrical manner, and has a front end face which extends obliquely to the longitudinal axis. The punching section may be smaller in diameter than the body of the fastening element or else have the same diameter. The section between the end face and the outer side of the punching section forms a punching edge. On account of the oblique profile of the end face, said punching edge is arranged such that, when the fastening element is fired in, the punching edge first of all strikes the metal sheet at one or else at two points, and the opening in the metal sheet is enlarged by shearing off the metal sheet at a point migrating around the circumference.

A biased folding bracket is pivotally coupled with the cam. A pallet is pivotally coupled with the lift and a cam follower is mounted to the pallet in a position to cooperatively interact with the folding bracket. When a load is on the pallet, the folding bracket yields to the cam follower permitting it to enter the substantially vertical finger notch and the pallet remains in a substantially horizontal position as the fill moves from a lowered position to a raised position. Without a load, the folding bracket directs the cam follower into the angled finger notch, which caused the pallet to pivot into a substantially vertical position. In this position, the cam may he tilted away from the vehicle hitch.

Abstract: The present invention includes a molten metal pump and associated components that enable gas to be released into a stream of molten metal. The gas may be released into the molten metal stream (preferably into the bottom of the stream) flowing through a passage. Such a stream may be within the pump discharge and/or within a metal-transfer conduit extending from the pump discharge. The gas is released by using a gas-transfer foot that is positioned next to and is preferably attachable to the pump base or to the metal-transfer conduit. Preferably, the conduit (and/or discharge) in which the gas is released comprises two sections: a first section having a first cross-sectional area and a second section downstream of the first section and having a second cross-sectional area, wherein the second cross sectional area is larger than the first cross-sectional area. Preferably, the gas is released into or near the second section so that the gas is released into an area of relatively lower pressure.

Abstract: A hydrodynamic energy recovery system for effecting mixing of gases within a headspace of a liquid-containment vessel containing a liquid enables mixing of the gases by converting energy of moving or sloshing liquid in a liquid-filled lower portion of the vessel into energy for moving the gases. The system includes (1) a hydro-driven actuator that is movably driven in response to the movement of the liquid in the vessel, (2) a mixing device driven by the actuator such that motion of the mixing device effects mixing of the gases contained in the headspace above the liquid, and (3) a motion converter for converting motion of the actuator into motion for driving the mixing device. The mixing device can be driven without the need to run electrical power within the vessel and without the transfer of motion through an external wall of the vessel.

Also described is a variable oil pump, in which a gap is provided between a plunger and a cylinder to easily operate the plunger using an oil pressure output from an oil pump, enabling more rapid supply of a required amount of oil using an oil pressure varied according to variation in an engine RPM. A variable oil pump is described in which the plunger is perpendicularly operated with respect to a flow direction of the working fluid, such that the plunger can be operated in a direction in which a pressure of the working fluid is applied to operate the oil pump.
