Patent number: 8496735Abstract: Apparatus and methods for reducing or eliminating undesirable air-borne substances, such as odors, bacteria, viruses, fungi, and toxins, are provided. A filter containing nanocrystalline metal oxide or metal hydroxide particles may be installed within an air handling apparatus such as an existing HVAC unit located within a building, and particularly within a home, or a portable air processor or purifier. The air handling apparatus comprises a blower which pulls air containing various undesirable substances from within the enclosed environment and directs it through a filtering device containing the nanocrystalline particles. The undesirable substances are sorbed by the nanocrystalline particles thereby creating a deodorized stream of air that may then be directed back into various portions of the enclosed environment or vented to the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2012Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Timilon Technology Acquisitions LLCInventors: David Jones, Kyle Knappenberger, Lincoln Mertz, Olga Koper, David Brotton, Deborah Basco, Bill Sanford

Patent number: 8497847Abstract: Input/output operation of an electronic device is adapted for left-handed and/or right-handed scenarios. As described herein, sensors (e.g., capacitive, resistive, touch-sensitive, etc.) are applied to respective outer edges of a device to determine whether a device is in a user's left hand and/or right hand. Based on this determination, respective points along the sensors can be mapped to soft keys to automatically optimize input for left-handed and/or right-handed operation. As further described herein, points of contact with an input device such as a touch-screen can be corrected based on whether a user's left hand and/or right hand is holding an associated electronic device. For example, upon identifying contact between a touch-screen and a thumb of a hand being used to hold an associated device, the point of contact can be shifted to compensate for the angle of the thumb with respect to the touch-screen.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2012Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: AT&T Mobility II LLCInventors: Arthur Richard Brisebois, Robert Steven Klein

Patent number: 8497967Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for a FFS TFT LCD with a high refresh rate without limiting the aperture of individual pixels. More specifically, embodiments of the invention provide for the use of common bus lines to reduce the effective resistance of the common electrode and to therefore allow for higher refresh rates of the display. Furthermore, the common bus lines can be positioned in such a manner so that they do not further reduce the aperture of the display. More specifically, the common bus lines can be positioned above or below existing elements of the display that are already opaque. Thus, adding the common bus lines need not reduce the aperture. The above can be achieved by, for example, placing the common bus lines above or below existing non-transparent lines, such as gate lines or data lines.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2012Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Shih Chang Chang, John Z. Patent number: 8498000Abstract: A spool control device includes image data creation sections, a first measurement section, a spool section, a second measurement section, and a controller. Each of the image data creation sections interprets a page description language and creates a piece of image data acceptable by a printer. The first measurement section measures a creation speed with which the pieces of image data are created. The spool section spools the pieces of image data. The second measurement section measures an output speed with which the pieces of image data are output to the printer. The controller has first and second schemes of controlling an order in which the pieces of image data are written onto the spool section, selectively employs any of the first and second schemes on the basis of the creation speed and the output speed, and controls an order in which the pieces of image data are written.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2012Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hisao Komazawa

Patent number: 8498022Abstract: A process for securing a document including a step of printing a distribution of dots on said document, said printing, as a result of unanticipated unknowns in printing, causing an unpredictable variation, dot by dot, of at least one geometric characteristic of the printed dots and prior to said print step, a step generating said distribution of dots so that at least half the dots of said distribution are not laterally juxtaposed to four other dots of said dot distribution, and at least one dimension of at least one part of the dots of said distribution of dots is of the same order of magnitude as the average for the absolute value of said unpredictable variation. In embodiments, during the step generating the dot distribution, more than half the dots do not touch any other dot of said distribution.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2012Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Advanced Track and TraceInventors: Jean-Pierre Massicot, Alain Foucou, Zbigniew Sagan

Patent number: 8498384Abstract: A system, method and software for facilitating a speech-enabled call routing application using an action-object matrix is disclosed. In operation, a natural language user utterance may be evaluated to identify an action and object available in an action-object matrix indicating transactions or operations available to a user. Depending upon the contents of the natural language user utterance, additional prompts and/or a disambiguation dialogue may be effected to elicit an available action-object combination selection from the user. Following identification of an action-object combination from the natural language user utterance, the action-object matrix may cooperate with a look-up table to identify an appropriate use routing destination. Following identification of an appropriate routing destination, the user connection may be routed to a service agent or module configured to facilitate the user selected transaction as indicated by the action-object combination.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2012Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Robert R. Patent number: 8498575Abstract: Devices, systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with reducing interference between wireless networks are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes negotiation logic implemented in at least hardware configured for determining a quiet interval between a first device and a second device, where the first device and the second device communicate wirelessly via a first network according to a first wireless protocol and are within a wireless area of a second network that communicates with a second wireless protocol. Control logic implemented in at least hardware is configured for controlling wireless transmission of data from at least the first device on the first network by prohibiting transmissions from the first device during the quiet interval.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2012Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Marvell International Ltd.Inventor: Robert Mack
