Patent number: 8499830Abstract: Methods are described using resistivity measurements obtained while drilling one or more offset wells using a drilling mud to guide drilling of one or more uncased intervals of a well to identify a casing point or points in the uncased intervals of the well. Resistivity data is gathered during drilling the offset well and prior to penetrating a region of interest of a known subterranean formation. The drill string in the uncased interval of the well progresses toward the region of interest, using resistivity data at similar depths to identify a casing point while the drill bit advances toward but does not penetrate the region. In certain embodiments resistivity may also be obtained in front of the drill bit in the uncased interval of the well and used in conjunction with the offset well resistivity data to identify casing points in the uncased intervals of the well.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2008Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: BP Corporation North America Inc.Inventor: Mark William Alberty

Patent number: 8499832Abstract: The components of surfactant-laden fluids, such as those used in hydrocarbon recovery operations such as for stimulation, e.g. hydraulic fracturing, may be re-used and re-cycled into components for subsequent use in a wide range of similar or different operational fluids. In particular, aqueous fluids gelled with viscoelastic surfactants and having components therein to pseudo-crosslink the elongated VES micelles and for internal breaking may be separated into its component parts by relatively inexpensive methods such as filtration. One filtration method includes contacting the surfactant-containing fluid with a particle pack having particulate additives therein which filter out or extract fine solids from the fluid. In an alternate embodiment the surfactant-laden fluid is a nano- and/or micro-emulsion wellbore cleanup fluid.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2010Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: James B. Patent number: 8499845Abstract: The invention relates to a fire-extinguishing system of the high-pressure gas type, in which the gaseous extinguishing agent is stored under high pressure in at least one high-pressure gas bottle (1). The bottle valve operates, with interposition of a container attachment for the extinguishing gas, as a pressure-controlled, reducing and self-regulating control valve (3). By means of a predetermined control pressure which corresponds to the pressure in the extinguishing line system (2), the pressure of the extinguishing gas is reduced from, for example, 150 to 300 bar within the control valve to, for example, 60 bar. This makes it possible to dispense with all the high-pressure components used to date between the bottle valve and the extinguishing line system. Furthermore, a computational software is no longer required.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2007Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Total Walther GmbH Feuerschutz und SicherheitInventors: Bruno Lüders, Gregor Wildermuth

Patent number: 8499874Abstract: The present invention combines the principles of a gas turbine engine with an electric transmission system. A method and apparatus are disclosed for utilizing metallic and ceramic elements to store heat energy derived from a regenerative braking system. The subject invention uses this regenerated electrical energy to provide additional energy storage over conventional electrical storage methods suitable for a gas turbine engine. The subject invention provides engine braking for a gas turbine engine as well as reducing fuel consumption.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2010Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: ICR Turbine Engine CorporationInventors: David William Dewis, James Kesseli, Frank Wegner Donnelly, Thomas Wolf, Timothy Upton, John D. Patent number: 8499875Abstract: An energy storage system, for a hybrid vehicle including an internal combustion engine having an output shaft and a transmission operably coupled to the output shaft, includes a reservoir containing working fluid, a reversible pump/motor in fluid communication with the reservoir, a first clutch selectively drivably coupling the output shaft of the engine and the reversible pump/motor, a second clutch selectively drivably coupling an output shaft of the transmission and the reversible pump/motor, and an accumulator containing working fluid and gas. The accumulator is in fluid communication with the reversible pump/motor to deliver pressurized working fluid to the reversible pump/motor when operating as a motor to drive one of the respective output shafts of the engine and the transmission, and to receive pressurized working fluid discharged by the reversible pump/motor when operating as a pump driven by the one of the respective output shafts of the engine and the transmission.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2012Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Kenric B. Patent number: 8499879Abstract: A system for classifying an occupant using a reduced quantity of force sensors. The system includes one or more force sensors, an electronic control unit (“ECU”), and a vehicle safety system. The force sensors are, for example, i-Bolt™ sensors, or other suitable force sensors or force sensing systems. The ECU includes, among other things, an occupant classification module and a safety monitoring module. The occupant classification module receives signals from the force sensors, determines one or more moments about a fixed point of a vehicle occupant control volume, and determines an occupant classification metric based on a mass of the control volume and a center of gravity of the control volume. The occupant classification module uses the occupant classification metric to classify an occupant into one of a plurality of occupant classifications. Based on the occupant classification, the safety monitoring module controls one or more vehicle safety systems.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2010Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Darren (Shih Yuan) Lee, Russell C.
