Abstract: Systems and methods for using pedal position and/or pedal change rate in the fuel side and/or air side control of an engine. By knowing the pedal position and/or pedal rate, an engine controller may anticipate future fuel and/or air needs of the engine, and adjust the fuel profile and/or air profile to meet those anticipated needs. This may help improve the responsiveness, performance and emissions of the engine.

The container also comprises two tubes, each connected to each side edge of each of the four vertical panels, and a pin inserted through the tubes when aligned, for locking the panels in a vertical position to form the enclosure with open top.
Abstract: The measuring array with an earth connection point (5) for determining the insulation resistance (Riso) of an energized electrical apparatus or of an installation with a supply voltage UB with a positive pole (6) and a negative pole (7), two switches (S1, S2) or a corresponding two-way switch being provided for creating a current path between one of the two poles and said earth connection point (5) in order to determine the insulation resistance (Riso) generally obtained when one or a plurality of insulation faults occur at any potential reference, two measurements being performed one after the other for determining the insulation resistance, the first switch (S1) being closed and the second switch (S2) open during the first of these two measurements and the first switch (S1) being open and the second switch (S2) closed during the second of these measurements.
Abstract: A method for providing precoding weights for data symbols of data control subframes includes generating a downlink frame having control subframes which individually correspond to one of a plurality of downlink data subframes, and inserting weight information into each of the control subframes, such that the weight information is to be applied to data symbols present in the corresponding one of the data subframes. The method further includes transmitting the control subframes and the inserted weight information to a receiving device.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for adaptive encoding of at least a part of a current frame of a sequence of frames of framed data are described which operate on a block-by-block coding basis. The methods and apparatus divide at least a part of the current frame into blocks and then perform a first sub-encoding step on a block. Thereafter a second sub-encoding step is performed on the first sub-encoded block whereby the second sub-encoding step is optimized by adapting its encoding parameters based on a quantity of the first sub-encoded part of the current frame. The quantity is determined by prediction from a reference frame. Then the same steps are performed on another block of the part of the current frame. Typically, the framed data will be video frames for transmission over a transmission channel. The adaptation of the parameters for the second sub-encoding step may be made dependent upon the characteristics or limitations, e.g. bandwidth limitation, of the channel.
Abstract: Breaching access structure 10S provides easy access to sealed interior 10I containing contents 10C. Access region 12A proximate edge 12E of package 10, provides entrance into the interior and access to the contents. Band seal 14 formed by upper lamina 14U and lower lamina 14L extends along the access region, enclosing breaching bubble 16. The band seal has inner seal portion 14I between the bubble and the interior, and outer seal portion 14O between the bubble and edge 12E of the package. The bubble is expandable to open the package in response to bursting detonator 18. The detonator is burst by external pressure applied by a user. Opposed pair of peel flaps, upper flap 16U and lower flap 16L, are formed by the opposed laminae of the outer seal along the edge breach as the bubble breaches. These small initial flaps are grasped by the user and manually peeled apart to initiate opening the band seal.
Abstract: The invention disclosed comprises a method for administering the antidiabetic drug glipizide to a patient in need of glipizide in need of antidiabetic therapy.

Abstract: A head end controller is described. The head end controller controls a plurality of service units in a telecommunications system with a multi-carrier transmission scheme. The head end controller includes a logic circuit that generates control messages for the plurality of service units. Each service unit is assigned to at least one subband of a transmission bandwidth. The head end controller further includes a transceiver that is coupled to a distribution network of the transmission system, wherein the transceiver broadcasts control messages to the plurality of service units. The plurality of service units are configured to use a multiple access scheme to transmit on a radio frequency carrier using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) so that transmissions from the plurality of service unit are received from the distribution network at the transceiver synchronized within an OFDM waveform.
Abstract: A tubular implant having an axial end to which is attached a ring of spoons of a material different from that of the implant. In another aspect, the invention provides a method of attaching elements to an axial end of a tubular implant comprising the steps of providing said elements on one end of a support tube having a radius substantially that of the implant in its unexpanded configuration, abutting the implant and elements end-to-end, fixing the elements to the implant; and parting the elements from the support tube. In a third aspect, the invention provides an implant carrying an element of another material, the element and implant having complementary tapered mating surfaces for achieving a taper form fit of the element onto the implant.
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture provide a system for electronically generating a color dental occlusion map within electronic model images. With the advances recently made computational systems, these computer based image systems may be used to permit end users to replace paper and physical models with electronic images. A mechanism to capture image representations of physical objects accurately and with sufficient resolution is provided in a form that is both inexpensive to operate while providing rapid turn-around for users. Second, a mechanism to visually display interaction between parts of an object is also provided. These features are expressly addressed for impressions of human teeth that are scanned to allow electronic images of the models of a patient's teeth to be represented and manipulated.

Abstract: An audio bitstream is read from a digital video disc DVD for transfer, subsequent to parsing thereof, via an IEC 958 protocolled interface, for use in a multi-channel audio reproduction apparatus. For each respective audio channel MPEG audio samples are packaged recurrently in burst payloads, and these burst payloads are packaged as user data in IEC958 format frames. Pause bursts are used for signalling absence of audio for all associated channels with, each pause burst representing such audio absence during a perceptibly acceptable time interval only.
