  • Patent number: 8528119
Abstract: An impact-absorbing protective structure comprises one or more compressible cells. Each cell is in the form of a thin-walled plastic enclosure defining an inner, fluid-filled chamber with at least one small orifice through which fluid resistively flows. Each cell includes an initially resistive mechanism that resists collapse during an initial phase of an impact and that then yields to allow the remainder of the impact to be managed by the venting of fluid through the orifice. The initially resistive mechanism may be implemented by providing the cell with semi-vertical side walls of an appropriate thickness or by combining a resiliently collapsible ring with the cell. After the initially resistive mechanism yields to the impact, the remainder of the impact is managed by the fluid venting through the orifice. The cell properties can be readily engineered to optimize the impact-absorbing response of the cell to a wide range of impact energies.

  • Patent number: 8528120
Abstract: Fire resistant garments are disclosed made from a fabric containing a fiber blend. The fiber blend contains meta-aramid fibers, fire resistant cellulose fibers, non-aromatic polyamide fibers, and optionally para-aramid fibers. The non-aromatic polyamide fibers are present in an amount sufficient to dramatically improve the abrasion resistance of the fabric without adversely interfering with the flame resistant properties. In addition to abrasion resistance, the particular blend of fibers has also been found to dramatically improve or increase various other properties. In one embodiment, the fabric is made with a herringbone weave which has been found to unexpectedly improve tear properties and porosity.

Abstract: A wiper apparatus is provided that reduces protrusion of a cover at a storage position of a wiper arm, and improves the appearance of the vehicle. A first link between shafts at the lower section of a four-link mechanism is formed by a mounting portion formed on a vehicle body. A second link and a third link at both ends of the first link are formed by link levers. A fourth link L4 between the end portions of the second link and the third link is formed by the proximal end portion of the first wiper arm. A cover is mounted on the proximal end portion of the first wiper arm. One of the pair of link levers, that is, the second link lever arranged closer to the wiper blade has a recess, which is recessed in the direction of a link shaft to prevent contact with the cover.

Abstract: An improved structure of windshield wiper includes a wiper blade assembly, a retainer, and a plurality of adaptors that is selectively and exchangeably mountable to the retainer. The retainer forms a mounting hole in a top of a front end portion and has a mounting bar rearward of the mounting hole and has a rear end portion forming a lower step section, which includes an engagement slot and an engagement rib respectively formed in front and rear sections of each side face thereof The adaptors are of different structures. The retainer is coupled to the wiper blade assembly, or alternatively, the adaptors are selectively attached to the retainer, so that windshield wiper arms of different styles may selectively fit to the retainer or the adaptors to thereby expand the applicability of the windshield wiper blade.

  • Patent number: 8528156
Abstract: A wiper blade for connection to a wiper arm for wiping a surface to be wiped while swinging to-and-fro between a wiper stop position and a reversal position. The wiper blade includes a lever member configured to be coupled to the wiper arm, and a blade rubber retained by the lever member. The lever member includes first and second retaining hooks projecting toward the surface to be wiped and arranged at an interval in the longitudinal direction of the lever member. The blade rubber includes accommodating grooves, which are open toward a wiping direction. A leaf spring member is mounted in each accommodating groove. The first and second retaining hooks retain the blade rubber while preventing the leaf spring members from falling out of the accommodating grooves. The lever member further includes fall-off preventing protrusions arranged between the first and second retaining hooks in the longitudinal direction of the lever member. The fall-off preventing protrusions project toward the surface to be wiped.

Abstract: An autonomous coverage robot includes a chassis, a drive system configured to maneuver the robot, and a cleaning assembly. The cleaning assembly includes a cleaning assembly housing and at least one driven sweeper brush. The robot includes a controller and a removable sweeper bin configured to receive debris agitated by the driven sweeper brush. The sweeper bin includes an emitter disposed on an interior surface of the bin and a receiver disposed remotely from the emitter on the interior surface of the bin and configured to receive an emitter signal. The emitter and the receiver are disposed such that a threshold level of accumulation of debris in the sweeper bin blocks the receiver from receiving emitter emissions. The robot includes a bin controller disposed in the sweeper bin and monitoring a detector signal and initiating a bin full routine upon determining a bin debris accumulation level requiring service.
