Abstract: A gun firing method whereby multiple projectiles segments that are contained in a cartridge case are fired simultaneously to create a pattern on the target to increase the hit probability of the dispersion. Some of the multiple projectile segments are side by side within the cartridge case and have ends that are approximately 90 degrees to the central longitudinal axis of the cartridge. This causes the projectile segments to rotate around their for and aft axis upon leaving the gun barrel, improves their accuracy, and effectively provides the projectile segments with a higher ballistic coefficient and a higher sectional density, to strike the target at a higher velocity and with greater retained energy to efficiently penetrate the target. Rotationally orienting the cartridges in the chamber of the gun is a further embodiment that provides a predetermined symmetrical pattern of projectile segment strikes on the target to further increase the hit probability of the dispersion.

Abstract: According to embodiments, a co-fired or multiple fuel combustion system is configured to apply an electric field to a combustion region corresponding to a second fuel that normally suffers from poor combustion and/or high sooting. Application of an AC voltage to the combustion region was found to increase the extent of combustion and significantly reduce soot evolved from the second fuel.

Abstract: A solid fuel burner may include a system for electrodynamic homogenization. One or more electrodes may apply an electric field to burning solid fuel or a region proximate the burning solid fuel. The electric field causes mixing and homogenization of volatilized fractions of the solid fuel, combustion gases, and air. The improved mixing and homogenization may reduce emission of carbon monoxide (CO), reduce emission of oxides of nitrogen (NOx), reduce oxygen in flue gas, increase temperature of flue gas, and/or allow for a larger grate surface.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for treatment of unburnts in a flue stream 9 of a chemical looping combustion system. Unburnts present in the flue stream 9 are treated after CO2 is removed from the flue stream in a gas processing unit 13. As shown in FIG. 2, oxidation of the unburnts occurs primarily in an air reactor 2 in the presence of air 1, allowing the system to maintain CO2 capture effectiveness and removing the need for creation of enriched or pure oxygen 11.

Abstract: A splitter divides a flow of low heating value biomass into a central stream and an annular stream. A stable flame may be achieved by combusting the central stream with oxygen. This avoids the use of costly fossil fuels or biomass (that have higher heating values than the biomass fuel) as an auxiliary fuel for achieving a stable flame.

Abstract: A planting unit for depositing fertilizer and seed in a single pass, double shoot manner includes a rotating disc that cuts a furrow in a planting surface and a trailing seed boot, having a cutting edge, that cuts a vertically and horizontally offset trench in the furrow to form a seed bed in the planting surface. The disc has a mounting frame for mounting the disc to a linkage assembly that is, in turn, coupled to a toolbar mount. The seed boot is also attached to the mounting frame. This common attachment provides a relatively short and compact device without sacrificing fertilizer and seed stratification.
