  • Patent number: 8619854
Abstract: A conventional new video coding technology can provide a bitstream switching picture by encoding the bitstream switching picture into an I picture. However, an encoding efficiency is greatly reduced. As such, the new video coding technology does not provide an efficient bitstream switching function. Also, other advantages provided by a switching picture technology such as a random access, error durability, and a bitstream splicing are not provided.

  • Patent number: 8619855
Abstract: A method includes examining a statistical distribution of motion vectors employed for motion compensation in a first frame of image data. The examining is to produce a distribution model of the motion vectors in the first frame. The method further includes selecting, based at least in part on the distribution model, a block-matching search pattern for use with respect to a second frame of image data. The second frame follows the first frame in a sequence of frames of image data.

  • Patent number: 8619856
Abstract: Techniques are described for encoding and decoding digital video data using macroblocks that are larger than the macroblocks prescribed by conventional video encoding and decoding standards. For example, the techniques include encoding and decoding a video stream using macroblocks comprising greater than 16×16 pixels, for example, 64×64 pixels. Each macroblock may be partitioned into two or more partitions, and two or more of the partitions may be encoded using different modes. In one example, an apparatus includes a video encoder configured to receive a video block having a size of more than 16×16 pixels, partition the block into partitions, encode one of the partitions using a first encoding mode, encode another of the partitions using a second encoding mode different from the first encoding mode, and generate block-type syntax information that indicates the size of the block and identifies the partitions and the encoding modes used to encode the partitions.

  • Patent number: 8619857
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to systems and methods for intra prediction. According to one aspect of the present invention, a macroblock may be partitioned into two, or more, sets of blocks. The pixel values for a block within a first set of blocks may be predicted using reconstructed values from only neighboring macroblocks. The pixel values for a block within another set of blocks may be subsequently predicted using reconstructed values from blocks in previously reconstructed sets of blocks and/or reconstructed values from neighboring macroblocks. The pixel values for blocks within a set of blocks may be predicted in parallel.

  • Patent number: 8619862
Abstract: The invention is related to the generation of an image data stream and the reconstruction of an image from an image data stream. The method for generating an image data stream comprises the steps of (a) assigning search regions in a reference image to source macro blocks of a current image; (b) determining in the search regions best matches and corresponding residuals and (c) encoding the determined residuals in a data stream. A further feature of the method is related to the fact that the processing order in at least one of the steps (b) and (c) depends on positions of the assigned search regions in the reference image. The variation in the processing order allows for more efficient determination of best matches at encoder side and/or reduced processing requirements at decoder side.

  • Patent number: 8619864
Abstract: A reference differential value calculation part calculates a reference differential value by subtracting an accumulated value of the target amounts of codes from an accumulated value of the amounts of generated codes from the first period to the (n?1) period. A comparison part compares a cumulative differential value obtained by subtracting the cumulative amount of generated codes from the cumulative target amount of codes of the first to m-th picture frames in the n period with the reference differential value. If the cumulative differential value is larger than the reference differential value, stuffing bits are added to the m-th picture frame to be processed by the amount of codes obtained by subtracting the reference differential value from the cumulative differential value.

  • Patent number: 8619865
Abstract: A system for videoconferencing that offers, among other features, extremely low end-to-end delay as well as very high scalability. The system accommodates heterogeneous receivers and networks, as well as the best-effort nature of networks such as those based on the Internet Protocol. The system relies on scalable video coding to provide a coded representation of a source video signal at multiple temporal, quality, and spatial resolutions. These resolutions are represented by distinct bitstream components that are created at each end-user encoder. System architecture and processes called SVC Thinning allow the separation of data into data used for prediction in other pictures and data not used for prediction in other pictures. SVC Thinning processes, which can be performed at video conferencing endpoints or at MCUs, can selectively remove or replace with fewer bits the data not used for prediction in other pictures from transmitted bit streams.

  • Patent number: 8619874
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for encoding and decoding a video stream. Each picture in a video stream can be divided into slices, each of which contains a contiguous row of macroblocks. All the blocks corresponding to a single video component within each slice can then be used as the basis for encoding the picture. By decomposing each picture into slices, the video stream can be efficiently converted for displays of varying size and/or quality. The encoded bitstream can include a slice table to allow direct access to each slice without reading the entire bitstream. Each slice can also be processed independently, allowing for parallelized encoding and/or decoding.

  • Patent number: 8619877
Abstract: Frames of user interface (UI) graphical data can be remotely rendered more efficiently at a client during a remote session with a server by utilizing graphical data cached at the client to prevent re-sending data to the client that was sent in previous payloads. By using cache memory to remember recurring frames of similar UI data and delta encoding to correct areas that are not similar, encoded payload sizes are greatly reduced. When a cached frame is closer to a new frame than the current frame, the cached frame is selected and delta commands are derived from differences between the selected cache frame and the new frame. The differences between the cached frame and the new frame are then encoded as delta commands and the cache commands and delta commands are sent to the client which receives and applies the commands to render the new frame.

  • Patent number: 8619891
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving channel estimation within an OFDM communication system. Channel estimation in OFDM is usually performed with the aid of pilot symbols. The pilot symbols are typically spaced in time and frequency. The set of frequencies and times at which pilot symbols are inserted is referred to as a pilot pattern. In some cases, the pilot pattern is a diagonal-shaped lattice, either regular or irregular. The method first interpolates in the direction of larger coherence (time or frequency). Using these measurements, the density of pilot symbols in the direction of faster change will be increased thereby improving channel estimation without increasing overhead. As such, the results of the first interpolating step can then be used to assist the interpolation in the dimension of smaller coherence (time or frequency).

Abstract: A frequency-domain based echo and NEXT canceller is provided. The canceller uses log2 encoding to precondition the error signal representing the echo. An improved gradient constraint is applied on at least a portion of a full weight vector in a least-mean-square algorithm. The least-mean-square algorithm is used to compute filter coefficients. The filter coefficients are multiplied by a frequency-domain data vector using a frequency-domain multiplier to generate frequency-domain output vector.
