Abstract: The disclosure reduces vertical movement of a floating offshore platform by including a centralized open keel plate coupled to the hull that allows water below and above the keel plate. As the floating platform moves vertically, the keel plate separates the water and causes drag on the platform. The water moving vertically with the plate also increases the dynamic mass. The drag results in less vertical movement of the offshore platform without the need to extend legs of the platform to gain an equivalent reduction in vertical movement. The added dynamic mass increases the natural period of the vertical motion away from the wave excitation period to minimize the wave driven motion. The keel plate generally is above or at the same level of the keel, and therefore would not reduce the clearance between the seabed and the keel of the hull at the quayside.

Abstract: An elongate anchor arm is rotatably secured to the side of a boat so that the arm may be rotated down from the floating boat and locked into engagement with the water bottom. An anchoring and/or orienting effect is achieved by rotating and locking the arm such that a portion of the side of the arm is forced into and held against the water bottom. For anchoring in water deeper than the length of the anchor arm, one end of a flexible anchor line is secured to a conventional line-deployed anchor and the other line end is attached to the far end of the anchor arm. The arm is rotated to achieve the anchoring and/or orienting effect of attaching the anchor line at different points on the boat.

Abstract: A towing apparatus comprises a structural assembly extending between opposing first and second bases for pivoting between operating and stored positions. A locking assembly includes a pin in each base and a hook carried at opposing ends of the structural assembly. A cam is pivotally connected to the hook for movement between locked and released positions. In the locked position, the hook is secured to the pin for preventing rotation of the structural assembly. In the released position, the hook is spaced from the pin to permit rotation of the structural assembly. The hook is rotatable with the cam from the released position to adjacent the pin by rotation of a shaft and slidable along the pin into the locking position by a continued shaft rotation. A cable is attached between the base and a spring within the structural assembly for biasing the structural assembly toward the operating position.

Abstract: The invention provides coating units, heat-treating units, and a first main transport mechanism for transporting substrates to each of these treating units. The substrates are transferred from the first main transport mechanism to a second main transport mechanism through a receiver. When a substrate cannot be placed on the receiver, this substrate is placed on a buffer. Thus, the first main transport mechanism can continue transporting other substrates. The other substrates in the treating units are transported between the treating units without delay, to receive a series of treatments including coating treatment and heat treatment as scheduled. This prevents lowering of the quality of treatment for forming film on the substrates.

Abstract: A mechanically controllable valve drive includes a gas exchange valve on which a transmission arrangement acts via a working contour. The transmission arrangement comprises a first wheel element comprising a toothing which is connected to a camshaft, and a second wheel element comprising a toothing which acts on the gas exchange valve. The transmission arrangement is mounted to move in a cylinder head via a bearing, and is operatively connected to the camshaft and to a valve stroke adjusting device comprising an adjusting shaft. The first and second wheel elements are each mounted to rotate on the adjusting shaft and to be in a geared connection with each another via their respective toothing so that a rotation of the adjusting shaft effects a phase shift between the first and second wheel elements and so that a rotary fixing generates an oscillating movement of the first and second wheel elements.

Abstract: A work apparatus has a work tool and a combustion engine for driving the work tool and further includes a start enrichment device for the combustion engine. The start enrichment device has a start position and is actuated via an operating mode selector. The work apparatus has a braking arrangement which brakes the work tool in the actuated position and releases the work tool in the unactuated position, and also an actuating device for the braking arrangement. To ensure that the start position can only be engaged when the braking arrangement is actuated, the work apparatus has a blocking device which prevents engagement of the start position in a blocking position. The braking arrangement is coupled to the blocking device such that the blocking device is in the blocking position with the braking arrangement in the unactuated position.

Abstract: An apparatus has a turbulence generator valve which is arranged in an intake air passage. The valve generates turbulence in a cylinder of an engine. The valve receives an intake flow torque TA by flow of intake air. The valve is driven by an electric motor in an electric actuator. Reverse transmission torque TB is necessary to rotate the electric motor in the electric actuator when the electric motor is not activated. A cancel spring is provided to apply a cancel torque TC to the valve. The torques are set to satisfy |TA+TC|<|TB|. As a result, it is possible to keep a valve opening degree of the valve while the electric actuator is not activated.
